Arnav fisted his palms his knuckles turning white. "This was not how Khushi was supposed to know about this", he mused.
Arnav was filled with indignation against Preetham for feeding the nonsense to Khushi. "It's time", he thought.
Khushi swayed at the accusations and evidences being presented against Arnav. She was about to collapse when Arnav ran and caught her. He made her sit on the couch and gave her some water to drink.
"Is it true", she asked weakly.
"Khushi", Arnav said kneeling down in front of her.
"Is it true that you rejected my alliance first, then agreed to marry me with some conditions?", she asked.
"Sweetheart", Arnav's voice was pained seeing her in such a fragile state.
"Were you forced to marry me?", she asked her voice choking.
Arnav took a deep breath and steadied himself, "Khushi honey, initially I did not want to marry you. One simple reason- you and I don't belong to the same social and economic status. I thought you were a rich spoilt girl. I did not know you then. But as the time passed, I realized you were anything but spoilt. Your humility, soft and patient nature won my heart. Do you remember I kept telling you multiple times in between that I have something to tell you. This is it. This is what I wanted to tell you in Manali".
He lifted her face, wiped the tears that were running down her cheeks.
Garima stepped forward to say something but Shashi stopped her. "Let him finish talking", Shashi said.
Arnav said resolutely, "Khushi, Sheetal is not my girlfriend. I did not misbehave with your sister either. I am loyal to you. I have been faithful to you throughout, even before I started liking you. I never cheat Khushi, not in business, not in love."
At this Preetham opened her mouth to say something, Aman stepped in and said, "Ms.Gupta, Keep your accusations on hold until my friend is done talking". Akash and Payal looked daggers at Preetham and her father.
Arnav took Khushi's hand, kissed on her palm and spoke with a finality, "Khushi, I wanted to say this in a special way, that's why I waited long, because you deserve it. I wanted to make this experience unique for you so I planned the Manali trip too".
He continued looking straight into her eyes, "I love you Khushi. I am truly deeply madly in love with you. Just like how you meant it when you said it, I mean it too that you are my life. I cannot exist without you. Trust me honey".
Arnav then gently disengaged Khushi's hand, got up from his kneeling position and took a step back. He wanted to give Khushi some space to think. He did not want to pressurize her. He wanted Khushi to trust him out of her own volition without his coercion.
Arnav's friends and Shashi were enraptured at this confession. Payal had tears of joy running all over her cheeks.
Garima: Don't trust him Khushi. This is not true. We are your family. We want the best for you. Come with us Khushi, let's go.
Preetham: Ha Khushi, we are your family. He is lying.
Payal couldn't hold herself back anymore. "No Khushi, trust Arnavji. Don't take any hasty decision. Think coolly Khushi. Remember when you told me recently that you were both getting close, that things have improved between you two, and you both felt connected..."
Preetham was pissed that Payal was spoiling all that she had worked for.
Preetham (to Payal): I think you should stop interfering in our family matter.
Payal (retorted): Oh, then I think you should stop breaking up families first.
"Stop it Payal", Garima roared, "Come on Khushi", she said, "Enough of the drama".
Khushi was all the while lost in thought, she remembered Arnav's disinterest before and during the wedding, how he ignored her initially, then warmed up to her, how he wanted to discuss a few things related to their marriage before getting physically close, how he said he missed her in Bombay and wanted her to travel with him, how he showed her his passion at every available opportunity. Finally his mind-blowing confession today.
"My husband is in love with me", she thought her heart soaring high, "I know how we came closer over these past few months. The compatibility and understanding we share is amazing. I trust my husband completely".
Everyone was looking at Khushi anxiously. Arnav stared at her with bated breath. Khushi gave out a long sigh and stood up from the couch slowly.
Khushi looked at Arnav for a few seconds before turning her gaze to Garima, "No Amma, I won't come without my husband. I believe his every word. I trust him more than myself".
There was silence in the room for a few moments. Everyone was spellbound.
Arnav couldn't contain himself, he stepped forward and took Khushi in a bear hug. Khushi hugged him back tight and wept softly.
"Why is this happening to us Arnav?" she spoke into his chest in a gentle voice.
"Hush sweetheart", he said proudly, "We will handle it together".
And that became one of the most crucial moments of their long happy life...
