"Jocasta Complex is the incestuous attachment or abnormally close attachment of a mother to her son."
Oedipus Separating from Jocasta by Alexandre Cabanel.

In psychoanalytic analysis, the Jocasta complex is the incestuous sexual desire of a mother towards her son.[1]

Raymond de Saussure introduced the term in 1920 by way of analogy to its logical converse in psychoanalysis, the Oedipus complex, and it may be used to cover different degrees of attachment,[2] including domineering but asexual mother love - something perhaps particularly prevalent with an intelligent son and an absent/weak father figure.

Theodor Reik saw the 'Jocasta mother', with an unfulfilled adult relationship of their own and over-concern for their child instead, as a prime source of neurosis.[3]

George Devereux went further, arguing that the child's Oedipal complex was itself triggered by a pre-existing parental complex (Jocasta/Laius).[4]

Eric Berne also explored the other (parental) side of the Oedipus complex, pointing to related family dramas such as "mother sleeping with daughter's boyfriend...when mother has no son to play Jocasta with".[

Hahhaa Yipes !!!
Thanks for the info dose.. now I leaned something new and disturbing. ..😆..

I don't think the weird sexual angle fits for Ishwari though. She's overly attached, and overly possessive and overly jealous too🤣

You know, I just realized my own MIL is like Ishwari only. She's always happier when my husband visits her alone or with our son (my daughternot so much) . If I come I must keep scarce. And when she visits us , I must step back and give her reins in our house. Or she'd sound the clarion call for war and bring out ALL old stories for a 4 day tantrum of shouting and tears..

I take heart that my husband also breathes a big sigh of relief when she goes home...😆

As disturbing as Ishwari is, it's not disgusting. GKB on the other hand...
