Part 7: Shravan led her in the guest room with a mischievous smile.
Suman turned to bid him bye, but he instead closed the door behind them and swooped in for a kiss.
Suman stepped back: Shravan! Not in your house! Koi dekh lega.
Shravan was legitimately put off: You are not romantic at all, pehle hi samajh lena chahiye tha mujhe.
Suman smiled at his tantrum: Toh kya, nehi puchte tum mujhe?
Shravan: Well, I could help it either way, could I? You were the one.
He tried to cup her cheeks again, but Suman was careful.
Suman: Chachi will see and it will be a huge controversy in the house on the day of Pushkar's wedding.
This stopped him, finally.
Suman grabbed his sleeves and tried to talk sense into him: You should not come anywhere near this room today or tomorrow, okay? I know my way around, I will be comfortable here.
Shravan broke into a smile: There's a door between my room and here. That's why I gave it to you.
Suman: Don't you dare!
Shravan pouted: I am hardly going to do anything you don't want, Sumo. It was just for fun. So we can talk in privacy.
Sumo pulled him in by his waist and hugged him fiercely to herself: We will talk, but not here. I love you, I love you so much, don't doubt that just because I am keeping my distance now.
Shravan hugged her back and pulled her up so she was a foot above ground and at eye level with him: I will make you mine one day and no Chachi will stand in our way then.
And no Papa, she thought morsely.
Sumo touched her nose to his and promised before he finally went off to bed.
Shravan paced around his room looking for some excuse to see her again. She was right here afterall and he couldn't even see her? Why? They always spent so much time with each other in each other's rooms and now it was not okay because they had progressed in their relationship?
Shravan: Oh!? Usne toh koi kaprae hi nehi layi (a broad smile spread across his face).
Shravan dashed to find Vandy to lend Sumo some clothes before he stopped himself.
Shravan: Nehi, that will get too much attention.
He turned back and looked at his own wardrobe. Of course nothing came in extra small in here. He turned over a pajama set and pictured how she would swim in it with the pants being a foot too long for her and the sleeves a foot too long too. Smiling to himself, he took out a shirt, yes, that will do for a dress on her.
He cautiously went and knocked on her door.
He spoke before she fully opened the door: I brought you some clean clo...
His voice trailed at the sight of a freshly showered and dewey-faced Sumo in a white shirt, it's wide lapels hanging tantalizingly low on her...uh neckline.
Shravan gulped: That's my shirt.
Sumo blushed despite herself: Yes...I found it in the cupboard. I didn't bring any spares, na? Mein yeh borrow kar loon?
Shravan gaped at her, up and down. He had never seen THIS much of Sumo. The shirt trailed off around her lower thighs and only showed her bare legs. The ends of her wet hair dried on her shirt's shoulders, creating little transparent, wet spots.
Well...wasn't she a secret nymph?
Sumo narrowed the door opening: Shravan? Is it okay if I borrow this?
Shravan nodded and cleared his throat: Yes.
He sounded a little dazzed to her. That's when she looked down and saw that she had forgotten to button all the way up. She clutched at the lapel possessively.
Sumo: Stop staring!
Shravan: I like you in my shirt. You look sexy in white.
Sumo: Shravan! Go. To. Bed!
She shut the door in his face and went to hide under the blanket. God, she had never imagined being looked at like that by Shravan would be so embarrassing. She had goosebumps all over her. What was this? She had practically known him all her life and now this new outlook of his was making it feel like they were starting all over again.
Shravan went back to his room with a big grin on his face and fell into a good night's sleep. Yes, he should make her his bride soon.
The next morning...
Preeti was up making breakfast, so Sumo went to help her out a little so that her first shagun in her in-law's home was good.
She had packed already, thinking it was safer to leave early than get roped in by Shravan for another risky night here. Ramnath Uncle or Chachi would be very offended if they saw what Shravan was up to with her.
Shravan came down the stairs in threes, with a slight hop to his rushed steps.
Pushkar: Be careful, Bhaiyya, you injured your ankle that way last time.
Shravan: No worries, Chotte. I am untouchable now.
Pushkar looked knowingly at Sumo who suddenly looked very busy with table-settings.
Shravan did not stop his gait until he was right by her: What's cooking?
Sumo's cheeks flamed: Kuch nehi!
Shravan smiled and whispered: I meant the breakfast.
Sumo went bright red: Preeti is cooking, for Pushkar. Bukkar kahika.
Shravan: You know you love (the hair on the back of neck stood up, everyone was in the hall)...feeding me.
Sumo tried to get a hold of this conversation: Of course, I love feeding everyone, that's why I am a chef.
Shravan lost his smiled and pouted as he sat down on the table, unable to think of a teasing reply.
Aditya came down, ran up to the dining table, took the dish in Sumo's hand and sat down with it all for himself.
Aditya: I LOVE halwa. Ummm ummm ummm.
Shravan's eyes lit up like he was about to pounce on Aditya, Suman intervened.
Sumo laughed: Leave some for others also, it is Shravan's favorite too.
Shravan was still breathing fire, he gritted his teeth as the others joined the table for Preeti's first serving. Pushkar helped which did not seem to please his Papa much. Shravan wondered why Papa looked so put off.
Sumo finally saved the halwa bowl from Aditya's grips and came over a few generous spoonfuls to Shravan: Here you go.
Shravan looked at her reassuring smile and his jealousy abated a bit. But only a bit. Why was Aditya always going for what was his? Sumo made that halwa for him, he knew it.
