Karan Johar's production Homebound, India’s official entry for the 98th Academy Awards, did not secure a nomination in the International Feature Film category. The news was announced on Thursday, leaving many fans and cinephiles expressing disappointment online.

The 98th Oscars are scheduled for March 16, 2026, and anticipation had been high to see if Homebound would make it to the nominations. Despite being one of 15 shortlisted films, it did not feature in the final list.

The films that received nominations this year include The Secret Agent from Brazil, It Was Just An Accident from France, Sentimental Value from Norway, Sirat from Spain, and The Voice of Hind Rajab from Tunisia.

Netizens reacted immediately on social media, sharing their views about the snub. One user wrote, “Oscars 2026 LIVE: India’s big hope Homebound is officially out of the Oscar race. A heartbreaking moment for cinema lovers as our official entry misses the final nominations.” Another commented, “#homebound is out from Oscars. Oscars are just for name nowadays.” Some fans highlighted the film’s merit despite the result, tweeting, “Ughh why can’t good stories ever get the recognition they deserve in their own time but if you haven’t already do watch Homebound. Oscar or not, more such stories deserve center stage and silver screens anyway.”

Before its Indian release, Homebound was screened at multiple international film festivals, earning standing ovations and several awards. Critics generally praised the film for its storytelling and direction, though its box office performance was modest, collecting Rs. 4.85 crore.

While the team behind Homebound will likely be disappointed by the outcome, the film’s international screenings and critical acclaim highlight its recognition beyond awards. It also remains a significant entry for Indian cinema at global platforms, reflecting the country’s continued efforts to reach international audiences.

Despite missing out on a nomination, Homebound’s journey underscores the competitive nature of the Oscars and the challenges Indian films face in gaining recognition in the International Feature Film category. Fans continue to support the film, urging viewers to watch it regardless of awards.

The next update in the Oscars cycle will come with the March 16 ceremony, which will reveal winners across all categories.
