Chapter 2

Continuation of Flashback...

And he was gone...just like the blink of eye. Her 12 year old heart was too young to comprehend the reason behind the gut-wrenching feeling she got when their car disappeared in a few seconds, infront of her eyes. She felt like a part of her just disappeared with him... as if he took a part of her with him. A part that feels alive only when he's with her, when he laughs at her and with her, when he makes fun of her, when he makes sure she eats on time, when he protects her from those bullies at school, when he pulls her cheeks and makes fun of her red nose that turns red when she cries and gets angry, when he solves and explains her math problems as if it is a piece of cake, when... when he calls her Bose instead of Sonakshi.

Sonakshi felt a tap on her should and as she turned to see who it was, she saw Radha Rani almost hovering over her, piercing her through her gaze as if she just committed the most sinful crime of the year.

Radha: What? Dev kya tumhari bhai hai?

Sonakshi scrunched her eyebrows in confusion. As she shook a no with her head, Radha threw her next question.

Radha: Jiji teri mummy hai?

Now utterly confused at why Mamiji was asking such weird questions out of the blue, she again shook her head in a no.

Radha placed her index finger and thumb on her chin and contemplated in deep thought: hmm... To phir door ka rishtedaar hoga?

Sonakshi again shook her head.

Radha: To roh Roh ke ganga kyun baha raheho? Go to the kitchen and chop some fruits for my son. *fanning herself with the hem of her saree* such a hot day! And make sure to make some sharbat as well!

Sonakshi just stared at her. Not because of the way she talked to her but because of the fact that she doesn't know the c' of cooking. Let alone cook, she hasn't even stepped into the kitchen in these 10 years. Before her parents death, she was treated as the princess of her house and even afer coming to the Dixit mansion, neither Ishwari nor dev had let her into the kitchen. She is too young to go infront of the stove or do anything related to kitchen. And now that Radha hass asked her to chop fruits and make sharbat, she didn't know where to start from.

As she stepped into the kitchen and got the chopping board and knife, she realized, the kitchen counter was too high for her. grabbing a stool, satisfied with her instant idea, she started peeling and cutting the fresh fruits in the basket. Though they weren't being cut in the proper shape, she was grateful that she was capable of doing the least, credits to her Mr. AB for randomly getting the fruits in his room , chopping them infront of her and popping once in a while in her mouth during their study breaks. But the next momentshe felt a sheer pain in her fingers and the next thing she knew was blood on the knife and and chopping board. She yelped in pain as tears after tears started streaming down her cheeks.

Radha rushed into the kitchen. Grasping Sonakshi's hair, she yelled.

Radha: ITNA SA BHI KAAM NAHI HOTA TUJHSE? You contaminated all the fresh fruits with blood! Am I going to feed this to my son?!

All sonakshi could do was yelp in pain as her head felt heavy. Her eyes burned and swelled due to the never ending tears

Radha: GET OUT!

Sonakshi quietly went to her room and threw herself in the bed, crying her heart out.

And that was how her heavenly life became hell.

Seeing the sudden change in Radha's behavior, little Sonakshi at least realized, whatever she needed to do for herself, she has to do it alone and secretly. Through Mami's bitter taunts regarding Her and Dev's friendship, i.e. "Always sticking to Dev like glue!" or "this girl was spoiling our innocent dev! It's good that they went abroad. At least this little brat won't influence my dev in any way", she realized mami never liked her being in this house, or more so, being so close to Dev. Therefore, all their skype sessions or phone chats used to happen secretly, without mami's knowledge. Sonakshi never disclosed Mami's sudden change in behavior, or that she makes her do most of the household chores to Dev, thinking it would only increase her tension for her, considering the fact that how many times he had asked her on skype regarding her red puffy eyes and her visible weakness.

Dev: you look horrible Sonakshi! Are you sure you're not hiding anything?

Sonakshi: of... ofcourse I'm not hiding anything from you AB! Stop your inspection already. Tell me how you're liking Canada? Made new friends?

Dev sighed: Yeah it's fine. It's a huge transformation so will take awhile for me to get used to everything. And yes I have got a few friends over here.

Sonakshi: hmm.

Dev: how about you? Do those jerks still bother you at school?

School! How should she reveal that Radha has forbidden her from going to school after he left for Canada? How should she reveal that she now has a part time job, 5 hours per day, throughout the entire week at one of Radha's relative's house just so that they don't have to pay for the servants?. How does she reveal that she doesn't get to face those bullies or solve those weird math problems anymore because her job is to sweep and mob the floor, chop vegetables and help the chef in cooking?

Sonakshi: nah! You know I'm brave enough to tell them in their face not to bother me. And they know what you are capable of doing. I guess they still haven't forgotten about the gut wrenching punch that you gave em.

Sonakshi winked as Dev laughed.

Dev: I'm glad. Always remember I'm here with you. Anything you need, stuck on your math or science subject, just gimme a call on skype. You know the timing already. And Bose, make me proud. When I come back to india, I want to see you standing on your feet, I want to see you independent, I want to see you fulfilling your dream of being the best nutritionist of the Town. And I know you're highly capable of doing it, Bose!

That was the moment Sonakshi decided to continue her studies. Not only because it was her dream to become a nutritionist, but because she couldn't let Dev down, in any way. Since that day, her main gold became to fulfil this wish of his and make him proud of her. she started doing her part time job and continue her studies together, draining herself. She would come home exhausted from work and studies; however, never did she skip any of her classes, and made sure to be on the top five list in her class. Whatever salary she got from her part time job was spent on the registration fee at her school.

Within a few months, Rahul, Radha's Son found out about Sonakshi's skyping sessions with Dev and instantly informed Radha.

Radha: Oh! So you have stolen Dev's expensive laptop as well?

Radha's fingerprints stung Sonakshi's cheek and she snatched the Macbook from her.

Radha: Such a thief! What else did you steal? Show me!

Sonakshi: I didn't steal mami. Promise. Dev gave it to me before leaving.

Radha: First you steal and now you have the audacity to lie to me?!

Sonakshi shrieked and flinched as Radha's hand raised once again a to slap her but was interrupted by Rahul.

Rahul: Mummy, give me the macbook. It's mine from now on.

Radha: of course beta, whatever dev's is yours. Here. Take it.

And the only string that held her tied with Dev was gone. There was no way she could see him, no way she would be able to talk to him, given that everytime Ishwari calls, and Dev wants to talk to Sonakshi, Radha always makes some excuse that Sonakshi has gone to play outside, or she's asleep, leaving no other option for her to talk to Dev.

And ten years passed with sonakshi keeping both her part time job and studies. She started taking loans from the bank for her university fees. she still dies to hear his voice... she still wants to have one glance of her Mr. AB. And she successfully does that through newspapers and magazine. Through the news channels, and mami's random talks with her friends and neighbor, she got to know that Dev Dixit is one of the top ten business tycoons .

"Proud of you AB! I'm almost done with my third year of university as well! come back soon!" went her silent prayer.

As she entered the mansion, she heard Radha on the phone...

Radha: What? jiji (ishwari) you're all coming back? Itni jaldi? ... oh.. no no mera woh matlab nahi tha. I'm so happy you guys are finally coming back home after 10 years! Yeah yeah... of course. You should have informed me earlier though, jiji. Yeh bhi koi baat hui? You all are coming tomorrow and telling me now! Kitna kuch karna baki hai...

Hola! That was about it for chapter two. As per some encouraging and wonderful comments, I thought of updating chapter 2 and see how the response regarding it come in. I still haven't decided whether to continue it or not and as a result, I haven't decided anything as far as PM-ing for the upcoming parts is concerned. Will be deciding based on the response regarding this chapter, as this chapter gives more or less an idea of the base of the story.
