A Heart That Loves - Chapter 6
The guard thought for a moment, as if trying to recall something, when he replied, "Oh yes, she came last night. The child looked very upset when she'd come in though."
Arnav felt a pang in his heart as he heard that. It was all because of him.
"And she left the apartment a few hours ago, beta," the guard said.
Arnav swore. She didn't come into office, she didn't meet Di and Nani, she didn't go to the mandir, and she wasn't in her apartment. Where could she have gone?
"Where are you Khushi? Please come back to me..." he thought desperately.
**********************************************************
Arnav's mind was racing as he tried to figure out where Khushi could have gone...
And suddenly, he had a thought.
The Shiv Mandir.
There were two temples that Khushi normally visited - one was the Devi Maiyya temple that both she and his own family visited often, and then there was the Shiv Mandir that was closer to her apartment...
Arnav ran to his SUV and started for the Shiv Mandir without delay.
He drove there as fast as he could, breaking all the traffic rules, as he was worried like crazy for Khushi.
What if she wasn't there as well?
What if something had happened to her?
What if she'd left him forever?
Horrible scenarios plagued his mind on his way to the Mandir, making him more and more guilty for the thoughtless words he'd thrown at her in his anger.
As soon as he got to the Mandir, he ran up the stairs, looking around in all directions at the same time to see if he could get a glimpse of Khushi anywhere.
And there, at last...
He saw her.
He could see her from a distance with her back to him. She was taking part in the pooja for the deity - and the pooja looked like it was nearing its end.
He knew it was definitely her because not only did she look like Khushi from the back, but she was also wearing a saree he himself had gifted her once.
It only took about two seconds for his worry to turn into extreme anger.
How dare she do this to him?!
She'd had him and his family worried like crazy and here she was, taking part in the pooja without a care.
He strode towards her, his anger ready to erupt like a volcano.
The people around her dispersed as it seemed that the pooja had come to an end and they all set off in different directions to get their fasts broken by their husbands.
Arnav continued to march towards Khushi, his anger getting stronger and stronger by the second...
That was until he saw her sway to the side, as if losing her balance.
Sh*t!' he swore as he broke into a run.
Khushi on the hand had just finished pooja and just as she was about to step away like everyone else, she suddenly felt like her surroundings were spinning.
Before she knew it, everything started fading and her eyes drew shut.
The last thing she registered was a pair of familiar arms taking her into its warmth before everything went completely blank.
Arnav had managed to catch her just in time before she could fall to the ground.
The moment he saw her face, all his anger vanished into thin air and the only thing left in him was guilt, guilt and more guilt.
Her face was pale, and she had dark circles under her eyes as if she hadn't slept the whole night. There were tear streaks on her face as well that you couldn't see unless you looked very closely.
Feeling the guilt burden him heavier than a boulder, Arnav picked up an unconscious Khushi and took her to the nearest bench.
Setting her down in a sitting position, he quickly went and grabbed a cup of water before running back to Khushi.
He sprinkled some water on her face, and a few moments later, Khushi started moving her fingers slightly. Arnav sighed in relief that she was okay.
Another few moments later, Khushi started to show signs of trying to open her eyes.
Arnav watched on still worried, as she scrunched her eyebrows and her lips parted. Assuming she was thirsty, he immediately held the cup of water up to her lips and tilted it, making her drink the water.
Finally a few sips later, Khushi finally opened her eyes feeling a little disorientated.
It was only a few seconds later that she noticed the hand in front of her, holding the almost empty cup of water near her lips. Hey Devi Maiyya! I drank water from another man's hand!' she thought, panicking.
Alarmed, she looked up at the owner of the hands only to be relieved (I should say half-relieved) seeing that it's no one but Arnav.
"Teek ho tum? (Are you okay?)" Arnav asked.
The nerve of this man!' Khushi thought to herself as she felt her anger peak. Yesterday, he had made her cry all night, basically telling her that she was a nobody to him, and now he had the audacity to actually ask her if she was okay?! How dare he?!
But then her line of thoughts came to a halt when another thought hit her.
He fed her water.
He broke her fast.
Was this a sign from Devi Maiyya?
Khushi's thoughts were interrupted as Arnav repeated worriedly, "Khushi are you okay?"
With that Khushi's anger came back full force.
But then controlling her anger, she stood up and put on a fake, polite smile saying, "Yes, I'm okay. Thank you for helping me, though I wish you hadn't done the honours of breaking my fast. That right is meant to be reserved for my husband only and I don't appreciate other men trying to take over that right, thank you very much. But anyways you still tried to help me and I thank you for that. Have a nice day." And with that she walked away, towards the exit of the temple.
A myriad of emotions played on Arnav's face at Khushi's words... Relief, shock, guilt, jealousy, and lots of anger...
How dare she called him another man!' No one had rights over her, except him!
Gritting his teeth, he followed Khushi, planning to give her a piece of his mind when he saw her sway again.
He marched up to her and caught her waist, plastering her body to his, holding her in place before she could fall, surprising her.
"Pehle chalna sikho. Phir moo kholna (First learn to walk. Then open your mouth)" he said as he stood in front of her.
Both of their eyes were spitting fire at each other...
Khushi pushed at his chest, as she spat, "Don't touch me! I don't need your help!"
She walked off feeling her hurt and anger emerge together again, only to be harshly pulled back by Arnav. And within a fraction of a second, Arnav had picked her up into his arms and he was walking towards his SUV.
She struggled in his arms, hitting him, punching him, pushing him, but nothing seemed to loosen his iron grip.
"I hate you!" she said as she finally gave up, a tear escaping one of her eyes.
"Shut up," Arnav replied harshly, though he felt his insides melt as he saw the broken expression on her face.
He knew he had to make it up to her, but he also knew that she wouldn't come with him if he didn't show his ruder side to her in that moment.
He placed her into passenger seat before he himself got in and took off before she had a chance to try and get out.
Khushi just looked out of the side window as he drove, letting her tears flow down. Meanwhile Arnav kept turning towards Khushi to see if she was okay. But he couldn't see much of her face because she was facing the other side... But he could see some of the tears rolling down her cheeks, making him feel like a complete ass for hurting her.
He got a call from Anjali in between enquiring about whether he found anything about Khushi's whereabouts. "Haan Di, I found her. She's with me now."
Before Anjali could ask any further questions, Arnav cut in, "I'll talk to you later Di. I have an important deal to finalise." He glanced at Khushi as he said the last line, before he cut the call before Anjali could fit in a reply.
Eventually, they reached AR Designs and the watchman let the car in seeing it was the boss.
As soon as the car was parked, Arnav got out of the car and opened the door for Khushi.
But Khushi didn't even move. She simply turned her face away from Arnav to the other side and silently showed him that she wouldn't move.
Arnav had half-expected this from Khushi anyways, so he just picked her up into his arms without a word, taking Khushi by surprise.
Luckily all the staff had already left the building - especially since it was Karva Chauth - and so no one was there to witness or hear Khushi struggling and cursing against Arnav.
When Arnav got into the lift, he pressed the tiny, almost invisible, button that would take them to the topmost floor.
As soon they got to the floor, Arnav set Khushi down on her feet much to her relief, before he entered a security code into the keypad that appeared on the screen all of sudden.
Khushi felt confused as this was the first time she ever saw something like this in the AR lift, and she was in for a further shock when the doors finally opened.
Instead of another floor of work desks, there was a... luxurious flat?
"This is my penthouse," Arnav answered her unexpressed question. "I come here whenever I feel like I need a time-out. It's the one place where no one can disturb me since no one except me - and now you - know about it."
Arnav walked further into the sitting room, expecting Khushi to follow. But when she didn't, he turned around and urged, "Come in."
Although Khushi had been caught by surprise at first, it only took a few moments for her to decide that she shouldn't care about these things.
Because the base line was that she meant nothing to the man standing in front of her.
Nothing more than a fling... a passing cloud... and she had absolutely no right over him nor his heart. And that meant she had no right to know about his secret hideouts - in fact, she didn't need to.
And so instead of going in like he'd asked her to, she just said, "Let me go," in a lifeless voice, causing Arnav to halt.
He knew that she was beyond hurt by his words from yesterday, but seeing her surprise over seeing his penthouse, he thought he could use that little gap to try and talk things out with her, but it seemed that Khushi was being very stubborn this time. Which meant she was hurt beyond measure.
"Khushi I want to talk to you," he said in a neutral voice - neither showing care nor anger.
"But I don't..." she replied instantly. Then seeing the anger rise in his eyes, she added, "Sir."
For a moment Arnav felt like he'd been hit by a tonne of bricks. What happened to Arnavji'? Though he preferred Arnav to Arnavji in general, he couldn't help but admit to himself that when she called him Arnavji, it sounded so... natural... sweet... domestic...
Though he'd never mentioned it before, he secretly loved it whenever she took his name like that, because it just made him feel like they were much closer... Like it was their thing...
And now hearing that being replaced by Sir,' he felt like he'd lost something very close to him... Something very precious...
Before he could say anything, Khushi said, "It's past office hours Sir. It's wrong for me to be here, in your personal space at this time. We can discuss work tomorrow morning if you need to. Please let me go now Sir."
Arnav felt another blow at her words. Why was she speaking as if they shared no other relationship other than that of a boss and PA.
Had he really hurt her to that extent that he'd managed to break what they had together?
Was it so easy for her to forget all those moments, hugs, and kisses they'd shared? How could she talk to him so formally?' he thought.
As if those moments meant anything to YOU,' his conscience mocked him. You were the one who told her that she had no rights over you. You basically implied that she meant nothing to you! And now you are sad that she has taken your words seriously and has acted upon them?' His guilty conscience made him realise that all this was because of his own mistake.
If he was the one to create the mess, then he would be the one rectify them too, he decided.
"Khushi," he called, softly.
I'm going to end it here because I'd rather post at least something short than nothing at all. I know I kind of just disappeared, but basically they made me move houses again. You know last time I was like yaay we finally got moved to a flat? Well like 3 weeks after that they moved us again, and it was just all pretty hectic. And I couldn't write in the new house because there was no time for me to write except in the evenings, but there were no curtains so anyone passing by could see what I was writing as my bed is next to the window. And then there's also my lack of motivation... Urrrgh it's complicated!
But anyways, I'm terribly sorry. I know one sorry is not enough and if you guys have lost in my story I wouldn't blame you right now. But I will try my best to update as often as I can in future. No promises - because something always seems to come up in my life these days - but I will try my best. I will start the MIMP as soon as I put this chapter up and I will post it as soon as possible. Again, sorry for the delay.
So how was the update? Please please let me know with your likes/comments. I really could do with the motivation right now... Next update will be full on arshi... But will Arnav apologise and manoify Khushi or not? That's the question - what is your guess?
