Part 52-The Fan girl, Mahima Das Case
"Papa this is not going right. Look at Poornima. From afternoon she is with the phone. First all she has called that toll free number and told her support. Then she is calling each and every friend of her to give support to Sreedhar Uncle. Now look. She is sitting and writing notes watching Maryada and Bandhan. If we allow it she is going to be a fan of that Varma boy" told an irritated Pratap
Harkishore looked at Poornima who was enthutistically making notes and since the break is on reading and correcting what she has written.
" What are you doing beta " asked Harkishore
" Dadu I am writing speech for Chidren's day competition. Will take points from here. It is from the speeches from schools across in Jaipur they will select the student Prime Minister for this year. I want to talk about widow rehabiltation dadu. It is for Maa"
Harkishore looked at the girl. Was her way right. By trying to give dignity of life to other widows she thinks she is repaying her mom who in her eyes was a widow. Or his way by taking revenge. He closed his eyes and once again the smiling face of the 7 year old boy and the unflinching eyes of the young man greeted him.
" Papa why are you silent. From the time you saw Sreedhar Varma getting whipped you too are affected. You are not having sympathy right" asked Pratap
" It is not sympathy Pratap. Nor have I forgotten our mission. But after what transpired today I feel we should wait and watch. Don't stop Poornima. Today somewhere I feel your mother was right. She had always wanted to speak to Maheswariji. But after the community meeting I was strictly against it. Anu didn't abort the baby, chose widowhood and till her last breath she had believed Tilak truly loved her. One day he will accept their child. Even the name she had kept is Tilak's choice. Poornima it was for the girl, Adithya for the boy. She had told your mom as she feared she might die during childbirth. Today it is not Sreedhar Varma who has affected me. Yes there was a truth in his eyes. But it is Sudhir Varma. What is Sudhir Varma doing here. The last Diwali we celebrated here Sudhir Varma had run around and distributed laddoos in the entire office telling he has cleared some exam for going to US. He will get scholarship and all. Some of the people had jokingly asked him so he will marry and then go as in those times mothers were wary of their sons getting ladies from abroad. He had told no way. He will marry only an educated woman who can work with him in US. He wanted to work in US. He had no interest in business. Everyone knew it as that guy used to blabber it as and when he came to office with his brother. Look at him today. With family business and his wife, as per the info I got she is a 12th pass. And Tilak himself. He looks a living corpse with a fire burning inside him. It was evident the way he spoke to Mahantji today. Mahantji had also hidden something from us Pratap. So as of now we don't jump into anything. We will not antagonize Mahantji. But we will not stop Poornima from doing what she wants to do."
" Welcome back once again" came the voice of Shekhar Srivastav. " So everyone today we have a mother who has come to our programme requesting justice for her 13 year old daughter, her husband and her son. Madam we request you to share your story to the audience and what made you tell us this story."
" Sir I am Chandrika Das and this is my daughter Sushma Das. We were staying in Jaipur 5 years back. Today when I saw in video 2 people untying the chandelier I recognized them as the people who gang raped my 13 year old daughter Mahima"
" Gang rape, but why was she raped " asked Shekhar
" Mahima was not the target sir, the target was my elder daughter Sushma. The Sartaj's good for nothing son was trying to woo her when she used to come back from college. Sushma was doing degree 1st year then. Sushma always try to avoid him as much as possible. Then Sartaj along with the Mahantji came to our house making proposal for Sushma. My husband refused. The Mahantji threatned my husband of dire consequences if we didn't agree. Still my husband and my son told we will not marry Sushma to the gunda's family. Sir we wanted our daughter to complete graduation and then wanted to marry her to a good boy from nice family back ground. We were relatively well off people. But the wooing continued. My husband lodged a complaint in the local police station. But the police was with the Mahantji and then they beat up my son. I asked my husband not to create problems. But he wanted justice. So he persisted on police case with the help of a local lawyer. We filed case against Sartaj's son. That evening Sartaj's son along with the gundas seen in the video attacked our home. Sushma had gone for tuitions and had not returned. They tied me, my husband and my son and then in front of our eyes as a punishment all the 3 raped our kid daughter back to back for 2 hrs. By the time they left Mahima was unconscious and was bleeding. We took her to hospital. The doctor there did give a report of gang rape. But police refused to file case. I have a copy of what doctor gave me with me. I took a copy that day. Mahima fought for 3 days in the hospital and she died. Doctor gave postmortem report also. All the hospital documents I have in file. Then Mahantji threatned us if Sushma is not married to Sartaj's son she will suffer Mahima's fate. My husband agreed. But 2 days before the wedding we planned our escape. We reached the railway station but the Sartaj's gundas got us. My husband and son fought them. My husband asked me to run with Sushma and get into any train. We obeyed. We got into a moving train only to see from distance the gundas hacking my husband and son to death. They bled in the railway station and died Sir. I came to Raichur, took refuge in an ashram and has been living there. When I saw the gundas once again the face of my innocent girl flashed in front of me. She was 13 year old minor sir. Nobody filed case, nobody filed case. The Mahantj has that much cult sir. Look today an innocent boy was whipped for doing nothing. He just uses tradition. Will my Mahima get justice. We are not afraid of our lives. We want justice for Mahima. " the lady broke down
" Sir " Shekhar turned to DGP Rupinder Singh " What you have to say about it and what the police department has to say about it. "
" Shekhar as far as I understand it the only thing we have at this point is Chandrika Das testimony and the medical report. Have you seen the medical report "
"Yes Sir. We have Dr Raghuveer Bakshi who had signed Mahima's post mortem report and Radhika Amte who was the intern in charge of the nursing home with us on the phone. Both were transferred without notice after the incident.Miss Radhika Amte could you please talk about the incident"
The intern and the doctor gave their versions on the TV on what they have seen as doctors and confirmed the girl was gang raped.
DGP Rupinder told " Shekhar from what we have seen and heard it is very clear that from Jaipur the investigation is impossible. Would request the media to put pressure on government to order CBI enquiry into the Mahima rape and murder case. After looking at the reports, I will personally submit my report to home sectrary. Madam Chandrika Das be assured, this time the culprits wont go scott free. Your child will get justice. "
