TB article - Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa Season 9: What's Hot and What's Not!

The much awaited Jhalak season 9 premiered last night. And what can we say; it just gets grand with every season. Plus the tagline, this time, was bang on. It says 'Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa : Hot Hai'. And we sure do agree to this one.

The show aired its first and sole episode for the week yesterday. Sadly, the show will be telecast only once a week. But that did not deter us from watching the show with great zest and enthusiasm.

Here is a quick review of what we liked and didn't like about the opening episode of the season-9.

Glam Quotient

The show did not leave any stone unturned to up this season's glam quotient. Jacqueline sizzled the premier night with her opening performance to her song Lat Lag Gayi'. This season also boasts of contestants like Karishma Tanna, Surveen Chwala and Nora Fatehi among others to add more glitz and glam to the show.

Performance Expectations

The contestants roped in this time for Jhalak, are not newbies to dancing. There are skilled professional dancers like Salman Yusuff Khan and Shantanu Maheshwari to actors like Helly Shah and Karishma Tanna, who are not new to dancing. So it is but natural that the performances expected out of all the contestants is pretty much high this time.

Voting System

What awed us was this season's new voting system. Public voting has been shut down for this season, but there is the in-house voting system. This means that the in-house audience or the live audience votes as soon as a celebrity performs. The celebrity is marked on the combination of live audience voting and the judges' scores. Manish Paul also made it very clear that the audience was still a major part of Jhalak when he chose to make his entry with the audience and also performed with them.

Humor Quotient

Where the season successfully upped its glam quotient, it somewhere lacked on the humour quotient. There obviously was Manish Paul, but then, we enjoyed the previous seasons' judges panel' chemistry more than this times. Understood that Jacky is absolutely new to judging and Ganesh Hegde is more focused on techniques of the contestants, but where is the last season's Karan Johar. We miss him!

Jacqueline Fernandes' Judging Skills

This sure was the highlight of yesterday's episode, where Jacqueline was seen judging for the first time. Jacky gave good comments but at the same time was a little off her game. We perfectly understand that its her first time as a judge, but she should take a Que from Madhuri Dixit, who was always extremely supportive of the contestants but also strict at the same time when it came to dancing.

All said and done, the first week of Jhalak, did stand out for us. The contestants did not fail to impress us with their dancing moves. Let's wait and watch what's more in store for us in the second week on Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa : Hot Hai.
