Some random observations from my binge-watch session:

1) The families on this show have been portrayed really well so far, in terms of both mood and content. The Raizadas sit down in the quiet drawing room, sip tea and discuss life plans peaceably. It's all very civil. The Pants, on the other hand, are this chaotic crowd milling around the central figures of Dadi and Bade Bhaiya, and even the assignment of daily chores is a potential minefield. The contrast hits you immediately...the clean, open spaces in Meera's affluent world versus the almost cramped rooms in Abhishek's home where things are sprawled around and something is always broken or leaking.

2) Adoring Meera is just as easy as living with her is...not. 😆 Abhishek keeps fluctuating from enchantment to utter bewilderment around her and it's interesting that he is getting to see both the sides to her character simultaneously. One of the favorite moments this week was Abhishek's appalled expression at Meera's unique funda of dumping everything on her bed for easy access...the guy was practically itching to straighten her bed one moment, and the next he was so earnestly trying to convince her that his smile was genuine...the writers have followed through really well on Abhishek's first glimpse of Meera, with the right mix of fascinated attraction and pathos at this girl being so beyond his reach.

3) Meera is like a mischievous elf in Pant-land at the moment, completely oblivious to the flutters she is causing in their hearts with the little eccentricities which come so naturally to her. The scene where she meets Rohan is one of my favorites from the show so far...the little peck on the cheek, the instant camaraderie, the shared feeling of being befuddled by the worldly ways of the people around them...the budding comradeship between these two is something I am really looking forward to watching here on. She's not too different from the feather she was blowing around with Abhishek, dabbling in whatever takes her fancy at the moment and then floating off to a new, unknown course. It should be interesting to see what the writers have in store for her.

4) Speaking of Rohan, kudos to the writing team and the actor for the sensitive portrayal. His birthday morning with the family was one of the warmest, most adorable scenes this week. He is the mercurial kid in the family and it shows in the frequently difficult relationship he has with the adults. Hope the writers continue to build on it.

5) Abhi's mother and how heartwarming the Pant kids are around her...risking the wrath of their bhaiya and sneaking her chocolates to cheer her up after a bad day. She cries a lot and could so easily become the pathetic invalid mother, yet the light-hearted treatment and the way the family rallies around her in crucial moments is nice to see. Her bond with the mother-in-law and her sister-in-law, her guilt at being unable to help her son in any way, her worry at the burden he shoulders...all very interesting facets of this family.

6) Are they using a harmonica in some of the background scores too? The music and the ambience are a big credit to the production team and add so much warmth to the show. Been a lovely watch so far, and hopefully, the quality will be maintained.

That moment when a show charms Box and she decides to pen it.

The contrast in the two families be so real and so wonderful. Raizadas(see they should have spend a bit more time on them tho) are the educated bureaucratic , what do they call in Bangla "BhadraLog" . While Pants are bundle of chaotic rushed bunch. What is striking there is no contrast in terms of white and black. But you can see how differently emotions are weaved in both families. There is togetherness in both the families. Pants indulge their kid while trying to maintain that balance but Meera won't be herself if not for her family while there is Abhi who glues Pants together, who would be all over the place, if not for him , yet they are capable of having honest emotions for him too. Joint family vs Nuclear family. Interesting, nahi?

Ah, Meera is like you said , flying feather..she is like that unrestained stream of water yet there is this depth in her , maturity. And so lovely that her first encounter with pant family was in form of that friendship with Rohan. Two beings who see the world as it should be, they have this instant bond ,i love the scene when Rohan holds her hand and she notices the peer group. She not only ensures he understands it was wrong, but strikes that friendship to solve his situation as well. Their bond is so awwie and you seem to want more of it with Rohan's increasing expectations and love for her. It's a very very delicate mix.
Meera for now is one tone, she is fluttering like a free bird but what happens when you cage her in marriage and in a join family which would need responsibilities. Self-love vs selfless love.

Rohan is the ace of spades here, that actor and writing is so good. I really hope they continue developing on this template and mode of writing.

BGM is lovely , it makes you smile..the lightening and the whole cinematography..I am in love.

Box, this show is making me grin..good thing.

Genie, yes I can see how much you are grinning right now. 😆
Yaar Meera's family are Raizadas, edit your post before it confuses the uninitiated.

I am on the fence about Meera atm. That whole ruse about getting married to make her parents happy is such a sanskaari beti thing to say, but they have introduced her character and built the situation up in such a way that now I want to see where this goes. I think marriage right now is like the photography or music courses for Meera...she hasn't really given it any serious thought and I am inclined to agree with her sister about her not understanding the responsibilities. But then I wonder, do we ever understand them completely? Meera just takes things as they come, she accepts people as she finds them...it's a scary world when you have no plans and live to be happy. She is aware she has disappointed her parents, and there is no caging her in expectations like you said. It's an interesting point she's at.

I am alternately annoyed and happy with the Pants. Someone in Anu's thread aptly pointed out that it's like the big families in Hrishikesh Mukherjee films...there are such interesting characters sprinkled around this show. I really liked this scene last week where the daughters-in-law are deciding who would get to question Meera, lol. There is a nice balance of money pinching self-centred ways and emotional bonding in this family.

I was just gonna ask you why you didn't write an essay...didn't realize you'd made a seperate thread😆...

You're probably right about Meera viewing shaadi as another "activity" for her to try like photography, interior decoration etc. to figure out whether it's her calling...I guess the writers had to use some kind of trope to fit her into the Pant family and this is probably better than a trick marriage or hate marriage since those seem to be the extent of creativity on desi TV when it comes to getting ppl married😆

Meera wants to get married...it isn't being forced on her, it's a choice she's herself made...for whatever whimsical reason...I'd buy whimsy more realistically over random hate marriage track. It fits with her characterization so far given just how ADD she actually is...she would totally do something like this...give marriage a try on a whim cuz it might makes her parents happy...so it's not really typical desi FL in that sense.

Also great point about how easy it is to adore Meera but living with her probably would be very difficult...lol which is why a sample family like the Pants are gonna get her since they themselves are hardly easy to live with...but then that is life in many ways...living with anyones comes with an adjustment period and it's own challenges.

Re: BG music...I think they are using harmonica and flute a lot...flute music especially is my big fav.

I feel like the actress playing Babli (Abhi's mother) is doing a fab job too of walking that fine line b/w being a mother constantly on the edge of tears and trying to be strong in her own way...it's a pretty unique characterization compared to the usual mothers on TV...the challenges with her weight puts the story in a different sort of position.

So true about characterization too...which is why I'm enjoying all this so much...because most shows these days don't bother with establishing supporting characters properly.

I'd take whimsy over stilted hate/convenient marriage tracks too. Which is why I appreciate the way they set it up...right now it seems almost in-character for her to "try" marriage as a new experience, something which will make her parents happy and be yet another adventure to enjoy for her. They haven't actually showed her giving this too much thought as yet, she seems content to get married, be done with it and move on to other stuff. I do want to see how her family agrees to the marriage into the Pant family though...abhi toh koi aasaar nazar nahi aa rahe.

Meera would be a great friend to hang out with but a nightmare flatmate. 😆 True, both her and the Pants are two forces of nature and it will be a hoot to see how they come to terms with each other, if the marriage interrogation scenes are anything to go by. 😆

Re: BG music...I think they are using harmonica and flute a lot...flute music especially is my big fav. Same. It's very soothing and a welcome relief from the jarring cacophony they call background music in most shows these days. I also love the soft lighting and the filters they are using...the show has a very soft, understated look to it which goes really well with the setting in the hills. Great aesthetics overall.

Yes. And I like how they are handling it in a light-hearted but sensitive manner with the toss-up between the indulgent family plying her with chocolates whenever she's down and the responsible Abhi who just as indulgently takes it away. Nice reversal where the son is more of a parent than the mother, and yet her natural love and worry for him is intact.

So true about characterization too...which is why I'm enjoying all this so much...because most shows these days don't bother with establishing supporting characters properly.

Anu, please make some gifs of the feather scene when you have the time? Loved how well-executed that one was.

I'm definitely hoping to make gifs on the feather scene but haven't managed to get my hands on the HQ vid yet :/

Until then though, some random caps of Abhi's bewildered expressions as he listens to Meera gyaan about life😆

And one on the feather scene:

These look lovely, Anu. :)

^loved this moment and the play of expressions on Abhi's face...half fearful, half hopeful and just completely enchanted by the free spirit that Meera is.

^Hahaha look at the change happening within seconds in the two gifs...how the initial hesitance in Abhi gradually vanishes as he watches Meera's sheer joy at blowing a feather around, and how quickly he feels comfortable enough around her to take part in the silly game...it was adorable to watch him steady the feather and then give it a gentle puff while Meera jumps around blowing with all her might..😆 Very cute scene.

^aww look at the smile which just bloomed on his face naturally while Meera turns tracks at the speed of light as usual. 😆 This scene would have felt even more complete if he had been whistling on his way back...I was so wishing he would. 😆

Ahh! Lovely Anu! I love the slightly sepia-ish tone, makes it seem all the more reminiscing. I wish there was anyway to include the perfectly uplifting yet soothing BG score to the gif sets...lol I could watch and listen to it all day!😆

The feather's a total metaphor for each of their own personalities. While Meera, the free spirited soul, blows it around erratically, Abhishek, being the gentle soul, nudges it just so slightly to let it drift as if in a destined path. Each of them have vastly contrasting personalities yet seem so darn compatible! The good thing is that the contrasting aspects, despite being so defined, are depicted in simplest of ways rather than loud repetitive exaggerations.

Thanks, Box!

Guy playing Abhi...PJ(lol) is doing a pretty good job of enacting various nuances so far...like you said, so many emotions flit across his face as he interacts with Meera...makes the scenes all the more charming.

haha whistling doesn't seem to gel with Abhi's personality currently...yeh toh harmonica bhi chup chup ke bajaata hai😆...Meera hasn't made him open up THAT much just yet.

I swear, Meera is so hard to cap...constantly switching gears mid-way...she's more gif-friendly that way😆...her bouncing around is easier to capture in video form.

But great point on how their interaction with the feather was so indicative of their core personalities...Meera huffing puffing with all her might like the little ball of constant excitement that she is while Abhi is more gentle, gradual...and then the biggg smile of joy blooms on his face...and Meera ofcourse instantly takes note...lol I love the little bit when scatterbrained little her remembers her facepack and scampers off and Abhi is trying to show her the right direction and then waving a bemused bye...lol
