Now-a-days, Indian Television is witnessing a lot of shows based on supernatural themes. Supernatural themes are the hottest trend currently on Indian Television. Several shows have supernatural elements in it these days. In some cases, even shows with normal themes and stories are getting supernatural tracks in them, could be deliberately in order to get big TRP's. Indian Television's Big Shot producer Ekta Kapoor and her company Balaji Telefilms, has made two shows Naagin and Kavach based on the supernatural, and is now all set to make a third show called Brahmarakshas which is going to be on air soon.

Seeing today's scenario on Indian Television, I have to say this, that our beloved show PKYEK...Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani has been a Pioneer in Indian Television in terms of being a show with supernatural theme...PKYEK is a TV show far ahead of its time...it was the first successful supernatural show on Indian Television. PKYEK though having been adapted and having concept similar to Hollywood film The Twilight series and the American TV show The Vampire Diaries, but still PKYEK had its own distinct story and unique identity and that's why it endeared itself so much to the youth audience in India and in some of the other South Asian countries where it was available to the young viewers there. PKYEK had a story dealing with Vampires,Werewolves etc which is more identifiable in America and the western countries, but it had a certain Indianness in it...the way the story was conceived and presented, and that is the reason the youth audience in India found it so relatable and made it such a popular show of its time on Indian Television. Apart from the supernatural element, PKYEK at its core was a Love Story, also it showed family values and bonding, the show had drama and comedy too...and was a real package of entertainment. Also PKYEK had a great ensemble of actors in the show. Every actor was perfectly cast in his or her role and justified the character he or she played in the show. The show PKYEK gave most of its actors, particularly the lead actors Vivian D'Sena and Sukirti Kandpal and also Rithvik Dhanjani a great amount of popularity and fan following which they still continue to enjoy in their careers even now.

I have felt this before too, but feel it even more now seeing the current trend of Supernatural shows on Indian Television...this is what I feel...PKYEK deserved a Sequel...The show deserved a new season...even if it meant having a fresh and new story...but with most of the actors and cast of the original PKYEK,especially the lead actors Vivian D'Sena and Sukirti Kandpal. I feel that even now,if PKYEK has a new season or a sequel, it will be a huge success, especially if it belongs to a big and successful channel on Indian Television. PKYEK if it comes with a new season/ a sequel...and if it has a great story and is presented well, can leave the other Supernatural shows far behind in the race of success.

Totally agree . The kind of shows that are coming or running even if it's theme is supernatural are plain boring . Tbh I only enjoyed naagin in beginning & kavach' promos were too annoying . Pkyek was far superior then the spn shows coming right now & not to forget weird names & tag lines associated with them .

Thanks for the comment. I agree with your comment totally...PKYEK was a far superior show compared to the supernatural shows currently going on air these days...they are boring, regressive and even getting weirder day by day...where as PKYEK was more modern, progressive and evolved in its concept and presentation.

I would not like to name the channel and the production house, but remember more than 2 years ago, a Supernatural show was on air, wihich was also about Vampires,Werewolves and Witches...the show was called Fanaah...it was on air for quite a while...I think it had two seasons...but the show did not take off as it was expected to...the show despite its main lead Karan Kundra putting in an earnest attempt at playing a vampire, failed to create much of an impact, and did not gain the popularity or success that PKYEK had got and still enjoys as a show. This show Fanaah had several flaws...its episodes were not fast paced and dynamic like PKYEK...it was a slow narrative and lacked the amount of energy a show of this genre should have. Also the story was twisted time to time and the as a result the show looked patchy and inconsistent at times. Also the two seasons despite being connected to each other, seemed to have no link with each other...this show had a few actors in the cast, who were a part of PKYEK, but the actors were not given good enough roles in the show...particularly Rithvik Dhanjani, who was initially shown as the antagonist to the the main lead Karan Kundra...Rithvik was set to play the role of a werewolf in this show too, like he had done in PKYEK...but his character was not properly introduced and very soon his character went missing from the show. This show Fanaah slipped and fell badly on the basis of TRP's and finally ended and went off air prematurely.
