Qualities of a Leader- Ram

Yesterday was a very beautiful path crossing episode of Ram and Ravan. One of the best things I have loved about SKR is the way they have portrayed Ram and Ravan as 2 individuals. The beauty of how the actions of one makes him Sri Ram and the actions of other makes him bite the dust. Whenever you read Ramayana somewhere the divine aspect of Ram, him being the 7th avatar of Vishnu comes into picture. But what SKR has done is present him as an individual with infinite compassion, moral upbringing, steadfast on his beliefs , others above self when it comes to good things and self above others when comes to bad things.
As a manager in IT industry throughout my career I have read management books. From Stephen Covey to Jack Welsh there were stories of how you can be a good manager, good leader.
But the qualities of a good leader was written long back in my culture through a man who has walked the path of dharma, problem was I never looked Ramayana from that perspective. It was always about dharma when you talk about Ramayana and dharma was associated with religion.
Reality is dharma is knowledge which has no religious colours. It is the universal truth of how to live a principled life.
So let us see Ram and Ravan yesterday. What is Ravan doing. He is calling an Asur to go and fight the war. Ravan is sitting in the palace observing the fight while others are going and fighting for him. And Asur's have to listen to him else he will kill them. Fear drives these people to fight.
What is Ram doing. He is leading from front. He is telling his army why they are fighting the war. He is standing in front and asking every army commander to stand in front. Rather as a leader he is willing to take the impact of the war, giving maximum protection to his forces. His vyuha is such that the army can withdraw inside for protection while its leaders are exposed.
What happens here. Will the army allow harm for their leaders. No. With freewill they will fight to protect their leaders. There is no fear, only respect and the knowledge that if they have to win the war, the leaders have to be there. And we need to see Ram is not sitting in his shibir while others are fighting. He is standing right there and fighting.
Ravan creates followers which can go away any time. Ram creates more Ram's who at any point of time can take charge of the situation and fight. By creating more Ram's Ram is not afraid of his place or position. Because by enabling and enriching people the right way he resides in the heart of the people.
A great leader creates more leaders like him, that is his true ability. Empowerement and enablement. And it is because of that even today after centuries Ramrajya is still regarded as the best. It is because of that Ram still resides in our heart. Only people could recognize the power of trust Ram had created.

Beautiful post as usual di
Sply the way you compared Ram nd Ravan 👍🏼

I myself made an individual post on the same topic 😆

Just copy pasting few lines from it

Never did Ram talk about him being the leader of the army, It was always about the Vanar Veer, who will be remembered for this battle... Just like a true leader
Never did he speak about Kishkindha v/s Lanka.. It was always dharma v/s adharma..
Ram's eyes spoke millions of words.. He was not angry or in rage, but had a silent strength in his eyes...
And his final posture with the finger pointing upwards... I saw Vishnu standing before me, his sudrashan chakra was not visible but that's the beauty of Ram avatar.. Human yet Divine !

Well said di!!! 👏
Ram was truly perfect,an ideal son,ideal husband,ideal student,ideal leader,etc.
And you're right!! A true leader creates many leaders like him so that in his absence someone else can take his position and lead the way forward.

In yesterday's episode, the best thing was Ram gave each member of the vanar sena a purpose,mission...he valued their lives and perhaps that is why the vanar sena despite being less in number fought so fiercely. On the other hand,Ravan does not care for the life of his soldiers, the only thing he cares about is his family and himself.

@Shruthi: Good post.
A leader means one who leads in front. Passing right orders is perfect administration (or so-called governing). Ram was a leader, well-versed not only in commanding but also in action.

@aditi will read your post and comment. Actually when Ram was speaking yesterday inspiration was flowing through me. A will to fight. I would say Ashish sealed the scene. He bought that visionary in Ram. And that vision is the divinity Aditi. Yes he was looking at the sky, but his feet were on the ground. He knew from where he gets the power and the need to respect that power
@Ankita Ravan only thinks about himself. Not even his family that is why he wants a minister not a son.

@Ramya one of the greatest problem of our society is that we don't have leaders who can create more leaders

Absolutely correct. We produce more and more followers. Everyone wants a good job and hardly one or two wants to start a company/small scale industries.

Yeah same di, even i was getting inspired after hearing that speech. Ashish knows where to stress while delivering his dialogues. When Ram was saying " with ur shaurya, dhairya, saahas, veerta u can win the war " , he stressed excessively on "Dhairya" depicting the true essence of Ram. i.e Patience..
All this comes with lot of experience and personal understanding of the character.

@aditi Ram was actually enacting the lines of a forward which I got during my final year
You want you get that's luck
You want, You wait that's time
You want You wait, you compromise that is life
You want, you wait and You don't compromisie that's success
The last line, for last line you need patience and perseverance.
