Yesterday was a very beautiful path crossing episode of Ram and Ravan. One of the best things I have loved about SKR is the way they have portrayed Ram and Ravan as 2 individuals. The beauty of how the actions of one makes him Sri Ram and the actions of other makes him bite the dust. Whenever you read Ramayana somewhere the divine aspect of Ram, him being the 7th avatar of Vishnu comes into picture. But what SKR has done is present him as an individual with infinite compassion, moral upbringing, steadfast on his beliefs , others above self when it comes to good things and self above others when comes to bad things.
As a manager in IT industry throughout my career I have read management books. From Stephen Covey to Jack Welsh there were stories of how you can be a good manager, good leader.
But the qualities of a good leader was written long back in my culture through a man who has walked the path of dharma, problem was I never looked Ramayana from that perspective. It was always about dharma when you talk about Ramayana and dharma was associated with religion.
Reality is dharma is knowledge which has no religious colours. It is the universal truth of how to live a principled life.
So let us see Ram and Ravan yesterday. What is Ravan doing. He is calling an Asur to go and fight the war. Ravan is sitting in the palace observing the fight while others are going and fighting for him. And Asur's have to listen to him else he will kill them. Fear drives these people to fight.
What is Ram doing. He is leading from front. He is telling his army why they are fighting the war. He is standing in front and asking every army commander to stand in front. Rather as a leader he is willing to take the impact of the war, giving maximum protection to his forces. His vyuha is such that the army can withdraw inside for protection while its leaders are exposed.
What happens here. Will the army allow harm for their leaders. No. With freewill they will fight to protect their leaders. There is no fear, only respect and the knowledge that if they have to win the war, the leaders have to be there. And we need to see Ram is not sitting in his shibir while others are fighting. He is standing right there and fighting.
Ravan creates followers which can go away any time. Ram creates more Ram's who at any point of time can take charge of the situation and fight. By creating more Ram's Ram is not afraid of his place or position. Because by enabling and enriching people the right way he resides in the heart of the people.
A great leader creates more leaders like him, that is his true ability. Empowerement and enablement. And it is because of that even today after centuries Ramrajya is still regarded as the best. It is because of that Ram still resides in our heart. Only people could recognize the power of trust Ram had created.
