So finally this is where life is going to be stranded for the next few days at least. With a deep sigh, I entered the massive Arctic Enclave building and walked over to the security counter to get my entry batch made. I tried my hardest to be cheerful, which was not working one bit in my favor. I felt like an odd animal in this corporate zoo and it was not a pleasant feeling at all. Finally having gotten my batch made, I walked over to the nearest elevator, and waited in a long queue of people to be transported upstairs. It was already beginning to be a sad, bad day. Having lost the already nonexistent patience, I decided to take the stairs. 10 floors would help me calm down, and it was anyway a cool, humid day outside. My appearance was the last thing that I was worried about. Anyway, I was not formally joining until Monday of the coming week. And today was only Friday morning.
I am Khushi Shashi Gupta, born and brought up in New York, more precisely, Manhattan. Any place outside of there was a nice place, simply for vacation purposes. But ask me to settle else where, and I would hate the entire earth. Such were my loyalties to New York, my darling New York. And I could go on and on about it which would only make me sadder.
I had forever been a rebellious kid, and grew up to be a fiercely independent teenager, and now a 26, soon to be 27, years old lady, though my mother always complained that I lacked a single lady like bone in my body, which I very readily accepted. I took up a 2 year course in forensics from a private institute when I was in high school, just because I found the NCIS guys cool. But that soon faded since there was no action involved there, and 2 months in the course, and I already moved to behavioral sciences. Why? Because Criminal Minds, duh! That was interesting but since I was a minor and all, I was never allowed on the field on real cases. Rather it was the boring past cases study, that I could bet was all obsolete anyway.
Having managed to barely get through high school, since all my energies were focused on my other course, I joined a very prestigious institute for securities and allied actions, obviously against my dearest mother's wishes. 4 years there and I joined New York's biggest security agency, Safer, Inc. I was a master of laying security details and plans for the elite of not just New York, but all over the United States. My only condition was that I would not move or transfer to any where else. Traveling for job was acceptable though, which I very frequently did. I was assigned on the field initially but ever since my bosses found out my talent in another department, I was suddenly a very precious asset for them to lose. However, I still seldom worked on field, which was always a very adventurous change.
So how did my this exciting life turned into one that I could not stop cribbing about? Well, thy name is Arnav Singh Raizada.

Safer, Inc. had a branch office in San Francisco, California, that had a contract with AR Enterprises, whose COO and acting CEO was this certain Mr. Raizada, or the junior Raizada as he was famously known as. He had made national headlines when very recently, he escaped a near to death experience, by an attempt from one of his own company employees. He had been receiving threats for a while now which I had heard he never took seriously. It was yet uncertain as to whether the attempt and the threats are related or not, or whether they are two independent issues. Either way, a very expected out come resulted from this whole chaos. AR Enterprises sued Safer, Inc. It was not a surprise, especially since the legal department of the company was headed by Mrs. Raizada, Junior Raizada's mother, and Mr. Waugh, his brother-in-law. However, our only saving grace was that the assailant was on the clearance list handed to us by the company. So it was technically not our breach, rather a mis-calculation on their part. For now, we were hoping for an out of court settlement with the company since whether we win or not was a question for later. But the whole judicial drama would definitely affect us way more than it would affect them. So, my company decided to send me there, along with our legal team for negotiations.
I was fine with all this until my very last briefing in New York where both my bosses dropped a huge bomb on me and gave me the news of my promotion to head the new team assigned for the security details of Mr. Raizada. The catch- I was moved to San Francisco. It was more like a job demand rather than an option. My bosses said it was a temporary transfer, but I knew better than that.
Well that's the whole story of my move here. I simply prayed that all went well. There was a lot of pressure on all of us. By the time I was done about thinking how I landed here, I was already standing outside the head office of the AR Enterprises. They had very graciously allotted us space on one of the floors that they occupied in the building, since we were located very far from them, and they preferred the negotiations in their office only. I walked inside and looked around the entire office space, analyzing and looking for security details, cameras, and so forth. That was a habit that I did not intend to change. Things looked orderly, and few people were working, since it was a Friday. I went to the front desk,
"Hi! I am Khushi Gupta from Safer. Can you please tell me which room is allotted to us?"
Maria, as the name tag read, smiled at me and answered, "Hello Miss Gupta. Welcome to AR. I was expecting you since I got a call from the security downstairs. You may walk straight ahead towards to door behind me, and take the first left. There are 3 rooms there that are allotted to you and you may find a few of your co-workers there."
"Thank you." I gave her a faint smile, and walked as directed, almost satisfied with the swiftness of communication between the floors.
I was met with Sam, Andrew, Natalie, and Gurpreet of my company, from whom I knew only Sam and Natalie from our previous encounters. After the initial pleasantries were exchanged, we sat down and discussed the game plan for the big Monday. It all looked good but I was certain that if not a lot, AR would would definitely be ahead of us at least by a few steps. But we decided to call it an evening after 3 hours and decided to meet tomorrow at 11 in the morning. However, there were a few things that I needed to look into and did not want to delay any more, so I let the others go ahead while I stayed back. We had already failed once with the security measures, but not again. Since I was in-charge here, I wanted to make sure everything was is order.
I opened my computer and studied the layout of the office. Since the attack on Mr. Raizada was carried out right outside the building while he was existing his car, there was a lack of security there. But what surprised me the most was how insufficient his current residence was guarded. There was not even the basic security there. How was this man even alive under those conditions? But his family home, which I assumed was his parents' house, was on a constant watch by us.
I was just beginning to make a few changes, while moving on to reviewing his file, when I noticed some movement outside the door, and before I could walk out to see what was going on, the door flew open without a knock.
"Oh! Hello beautiful!"
And even though I was aware of how hot this man was from his photos, seeing him in real was a game changer for me. Suddenly, the temperature of the room was hotter than before, and I felt more nervous than I had ever felt in a long, long time.
Finally, I came face to face, with the magnanimous Greek God of the corporate world, Arnav Singh Raizada.
