Correction and clarification: A retired honorary captain, Bana Singh, had scaled a 20,000-ft peak to capture a Pakistani post at the Siachen glacier about 20 years ago (in 1987) for which he was awarded the PVC (Param Vir Chakra).

And the pension which is getting is just Rs.166/- only.

https://www.tribuneindia.com/2007/20071202/main8.htm

'I am sad that I fought for the country' Param Vir Chakra winner Bana Singh gets a princely Rs 166 per month as honorarium

https://www.timesnow.tv/Newsdtls.aspx?NewsID=4557

His bravery is worth Rs 166!

In Jammu and Kashmir, Param Vir Chakra awardees are paid a measly rupees 166 as pension in recognition of their valour

The horrors of Jallianwala Bagh are unimaginable even to this day particularly because non-violent people were martyred.

Its important to note that people lost lives in this struggle which is not the same as people dying in stampedes in hooliganistic demonstrations. People who as much as stood up there to get the Lathis... are as much venerable... Its easy to see things in hind-sight..and trivialize them.. the in-thing is not the freedom struggle the in thing is that we miss an hitler one tyrant to invade us to understand the true value of what we possess and what we owe to all these people who contributed to the freedom struggle one way or the other..... 😊

Freedom struggle was a mass movement made of numbers.so anybody who as much as just stood there becomes a participant.. the leaders were driving the movement.. and thats not the same as trade union leaders leading a strike by numbers...

First of all.... Great Article Tanveer.... 👏👏👏

However.. I dont think this article belittles incidents like the Jallainwala Bagh tragedy.... Cuz that was an incident where people were holding a peaceful meeting and the British fired in open... This is and will remain a sad episode in India's history... The real question is... How many of the people who picketed shops selling British goods actually did it with a Nationalist fervour? Because even today we see people resort to Hooliganism for no reason everytime theres a demonstration on the roads... There were many who lost their lives... Suffered immense agony for the country... But how do we identify them? is the question.... We shall never know who were genuine patriots... And which ones were plain Hooligans who just wanted some entertainment...
