Highlights

  • Deepika refused to comment on reports on her casting as Padmavati
  • The film is based on Alauddin Khilji's obsession for Rani Padmavati.
  • Reports suggest Ranveer Singh will reportedly play Khilji
Actress Deepika Padukone refused to comment on reports that she will once again be a part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's next, Padmavati, saying she is not in a position to confirm her casting.

There are reports that Mr Bhansali will begin shooting the period drama in September. The film is based on oppressive ruler Alauddin Khilji's obsession for Rani Padmavati.

Ranveer Singh will reportedly play Khilji, while Deepika, 30, may take on the titular role.

When asked about the project at the IIFA Awards, Deepika said, "Why don't you ask Sanjay sir? He is here. He will be able to tell you. I think IIFA was a good platform to announce it. But then I don't know. I can't say anything at the moment. It is up to Sanjay to confirm."

In 2008, Mr Bhansali went to Paris to direct the 1923 opera ballet Padmavati, written by Albert Rousselan, for the prestigious Theatre Du Chatelet. The Bajirao Mastani actress, who has wrapped her debut Hollywood film xXx: Return of Xander Cage, however said she will begin shooting her next film in September.

"I will begin shooting in the next two months for my next Bollywood film. I can't say which one," Deepika said on the IIFA Green carpet.

If things fall into place then Padmavati would be Deepika's third film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, having previously collaborated with the director on Ram Leela and Bajirao Mastani.

Many big directors' careers came to end with the superstars they created. The superstars could no longer play heroes/heroines..but directors still had talent left.janta didnt give them a chance..Rajesh khanna,Bigb,Anil kapoor and hit directors of many khan films..they never reached those heights again.

Directors need their muses..The most talented have made bad films with mediocre actors.

SLB got a new lease of life with Ranveer and Deepika..where some other directors have not been so lucky. He knows it and he is wasting no time.

Reall life couples since raj nargis have done more than a dozen films together ..yes even BigB -Jaya.Rishi- Neetu

..abhiash and saifeena have done 6 and 7 films each..Ajay-kajol -9

Dharam and Hema did 46 films together!!!

3rd film each for Rankat nd Deepveer..is not too many

She doesn't have what it takes to play royalty, especially in a historical context. Her act in BM was a disaster from body language and screen presence to accent. Getting decked in 100 kg lehengas and heavy jewels doesn't make one a queen. PC demonstrated that better than anyone else in the same movie. Alas, this muse of his is no Aishwarya Rai.

Exactly the problem here.
DP is a pretty good actress and beautiful in her own right but she looks quite out of place in historical movies and looking at how SLB is on a period movie spree, his best bet for a role such as Rani Padmavati is Aishwarya Rai. I can't imagine anyone else in that role because Ash, despite her acting at times, is perfect for period movies or roles where she has to play a Queen or a Princess. She has that aura to her.
If not Ash then any other actress who who gives off that aura would have been better than the same pairing of DP-RS again. It's great for their fans but for the rest it's quite boring now to see them again and again with the same director.

And to think he lost out on the potential of exploring Ranveer-Aish chemistry, it would have been new and amazing.
