There is a guy who is down on his luck, bad paying job, no prospects and not in poverty but close to it.

One day his workmate at the factory who was suffering from cancer dies. In turn his family get a lump sum payout from the company. Small fortune.

So he thinks the money is enough to start a new life. So he decides to fake his own death. First playing out he has terminal cancer. The movie focus on him staging the progression of cancer, how people react differently to him now and his perspective on life as a dying man.

Last stage he books himself in a hospice for other cancer patients who can not be saved. Awaiting death.

There he meets a girl who too is waiting to die from cancer. He starts a relationship and falls in love. Feels bad because he can not reveal he is faking it for money. In the end he fakes his death and vows to return with the money to help her as much as possible.

He fakes his death and with a new identity a month later gets the money and returns to the hospice. Learns she had unfortunately died. He is deeply saddened.

Months later he is in a high end boutique. A place he would never be able to shop at before and he see a woman exactly like her. He goes behind her and whispers her name and she freezes and turns arounds.

Its her. She did the exact same thing he did. They fooled eachother and the system all in hopes of having a more privaledged life.

They both acknowledge it and leave the shopping centre together.
