Chapter 22
(only for ppl above age of 18yrs)
A noise like a clap of thunder reverberated from the floor
below.
"What the hell was that?" said Raj, switching on the
bedside light. He heard the sound of heavy footsteps
pounding up the stairs. He swung his legs out of bed as
three police officers dressed in flak jackets and carrying
batons burst into the bedroom, with three more following
close behind. The first three grabbed Raj and threw
him to the floor, although he hadn't made any attempt to
resist. Two of them pressed his face into the carpet while
the third held his arms behind his back and snapped a pair
of handcuffs on him.
Two men leaped on top of him, one pressing a knee
into the middle of his spine while the other sat on his legs.
When Captain Abhimanyu walked into the room, they yanked
Raj to his feet.
"Caution him," Abhi said as he sat on the end of the
bed and lit a cigarette.
Once the ritual had been completed, he stood up and
strolled across to Raj.
"This time, Raj," he said, their faces only inches
apart, "I'm going to make sure they throw away the key.i thought I was wrong,I felt guilty that you died bcoz I said the truth in court,I said what I saw..but now knowing that u r alive but were hidden tells me that I was'nt wrong..u were the culprit otherwise u wud hv surrendered,as for ur assistant leftinant chawbey no more visits in prison,
because he's going to be safely locked away in a prison of
his own."
"On what charge?" spat out Raj.
"I'am sure that he was the one who helped u run n found this place for u to stay.So,Aiding and abetting should fit the bill. The usual tariff is
about six years, if I remember correctly. Take them away."
Raj and chawbey were dragged downstairs like sacks of
potatoes and out through the front door where three
police cars, lights flashing, back doors open, awaited them.
Bedroom lights all around the square were flicking on as
neighbors whose sleep had been interrupted peered out
of their windows to see what was going on.
Raj was thrown into the back of the middle car, to
be sandwiched between two officers, just. He could see chawbey suffering the same
treatment in the car in front of him. The cars drove out of
the square in convoy, never breaking the speed limit, no
sirens blaring. captain Abhimanyu was pleased that the whole
operation had taken less than ten minutes. His informer
had proved reliable right down to the last detail.
Only one thought went through Raj's mind. Who
would believe him when he told them that he'd just been collecting proofs to prove his innocence in the retrial,and would have revealed himself after the retrial.
"YO U HA V E N 'T ARRIV E D a moment too soon," she said.
"That bad?" said Naina.
"Worse," replied Nikhil's mother. "When will the Home
Office realize that when judges retire, not only are they
sent home for the rest of their lives, but the only people
they have left to judge are their innocent wives."
"So what are you recommending?" asked Naina as they
walked into the drawing room.
"That judges should be shot on their seventieth
birthday, and their wives granted a royal pardon and given
their pensions by a grateful nation."
"I may have come up with a more acceptable solution,"
suggested Naina.
"Like what? Making it legal to assist judges' wives to
commit suicide?"
"Something a little less drastic," said Naina. "I don't know
if his lordship has told you, but I sent him the details of a
case I'm currently working on, and frankly I could do with
his advice."
"If he turns you down, Naina, I won't feed him again."
"Then I must be in with a chance," said Naina as Nikhil's
father strolled into the room.
"A chance of what?" the old man asked.
"A chance of some help on a case that""
"The Shekhavat case?" said nikhil's father, staring out of the
window. Naina nodded. "Yes, I've just finished reading the
transcripts. As far as I can see, there aren't any more
laws left for the lad to break: murder, escaping from
prison, traveling in someoneelse's car and claiming it to be his, and even claiming a house that should
rightfully have been inherited by someone else. You really
can't blame the police for throwing the book at him."
"Does that mean you're not willing to help me?" asked
Naina.
"I didn't say that," said Mr. Justice malhotra, turning
around to face Naina. "On the contrary. I'm at your
service, because of one thing I'm absolutely certain.
Rajveer Singh Shekhavat is innocent."
"exactly,please yaar naina!maaf kardo na" said Dr.Nikhil who had been standing there quietly till now.
"uncle aap plz inse keh dijiye,mujhe koi baat nahi karni" said naina
"mein tumhe reason bata chukka hoon ki hamne yeh sab q chipaya..raj ko lagta tha ki agar tum logo ko pata chala toh tum sabki life ko khatra ho sakta hai.isliye maine aur chawbey ne tumse ye baat chipaayi" said Nikhil now holding naina's shoulders. "tum sab raj ke retrial ki tayyaari kar rahe the,aur raj usi mein help karne k liye proofs ikattha kar raha tha..retrail k baad woh tum sab k saamne aa jata"
"aur ab retrial ka koi chance hi nahi" said naina sarcastically.
Ananya was about to enter kkn office when kabir came frm behind.

Ananya just strared at him,aware of y he was talking like that

By now they had reached kkn frnt door ananya turned abruptly n said

And kabir pushed open the frnt door of kkn n moved inside,but turned back n showed ananya four fingers while mouthing four times with a smile.ananya just shook her head with a slight smile
RAJVEER SINGH SHEKHAVAT SAT on the small wooden chair in the
dock and waited for the clock to strike ten so the trial
could begin. He looked down into the well of the court to
see his two counsel deep in conversation as they waited
for the judge to appear.
Raj had spent an hour with naina and her
Junior justice yash malhotra in an interview room below the court earlier that
morning. They had done their best to reassure him, but
he knew all too well that although he was innocent of
murdering colonel shakti chandra, he had no defense to the charges of
fraud, deception and escaping from prison; a
combined tariff of eight to ten years seemed to be the
general consensus.
No one needed to tell Raj that if the sentence was
added to his original tariff, the next time he came out of
Prison would be for his own funeral.
The press benches to Raj's left were packed with
reporters, notepads open, pens poised as they waited to
add to the thousands of column inches they had already
written over the past six months. The life story of Rajveer singh shekhavat, the only man ever to escape from Ambala's
top-security prison,while being shifted who had stolen a huge banglow,car,money present in the house,identity of some one else and had ended up being
arrested in that house in the early hours of the morning.The story had fascinated the public, and the first day of the trial was taking on the
status of an opening night in the Worldcup, with queues
beginning to form outside the court at four o'clock
that morning for a theater that seated less than a
hundred and was rarely full. Most people agreed that
Rajveer singh shekhawat was more likely to spend the rest of his
days in Prison than that banglow.
Raj was thinking about an hour earlier when naina had come to meet him in prison.how she had tears in her eyes looking at him.
ap ne mujhe bataya q nahi..' naina had said crying her eyes had questions n accusations.
am sorry naina per tumhari safety k liye ye zaroori tha' replied raj coming forward to naina..
Naina just nodded tearfully,since the last time she had spoken to raj he had almost confessed her of his love,but now she was not sure where they stood in their relationship does he still loves her?does he know that she loves him too? Should she tell him or not? All this thoughts where going around naina's mind
Raj cud very well understand naina's hesitancy since he too very well remembered that the last time they met he had almost confessed his love to her...and now no one dared to ask the other about their feelings..after some time dr.nikhil's dad came there n they began to discuss raj's case while raj n naina sneaked glances.raj was very proud n happy to knw that naina wud b his lawyer n nikhil's dad who had been a high court judje had come out of retirement to help Naina,he wud b assisting naina in the case..his involvement had increased raj's chances n hopes.
Naina singh alhuwalia and her junior, The Rt. Hon. Sir yash malhotra KCMG QC, could not have done more to help
Raj during the days before the trail, while he had been
reincarcerated in a cell little bigger than broom
cupboard. They had both refused to charge a penny for
their services, although Sir yash malhotra had warned Raj
that if they were able to convince the jury that the profits and the house
he'd accrued during the past two months belonged to him
and n if they somehow proved he was innocent in running away from prison, he would be presenting a
hefty bill plus expenses, for what he called refreshers. It
was one of the few occasions during that time when all
three of them had burst out laughing.
