Hello people!
Keeping busy so haven't been able to write at all. What an episode today. Erica Fernandes, thank you for being our Sona. I have loved watching this girl since Day 1 so I couldn't help but feel very proud of her performance today. Awesome awesome awesome!
Coming to the current batch of episodes... Have loved it overall. For me, Dev even considering love as a factor in this relationship that he is about to enter is progress. When you see him so bothered and at edge, mulling things over in his mind again and again you can see how much Sona has weaved her way into his life. It was Sona who made him include love as something of consequence in this proposal otherwise he would have probably never thought about it. This is the beauty of their relationship... The way she challenges his beliefs and makes him question things. People don't change but in essence Sona isn't really changing Dev. She is simply helping him connect to the parts of himself that he has lost touch with over time.
I absolutely loved the phone-call scene yesterday. The gentle probing and understanding that Sona exhibited and Dev just quietly asking her permission like a child.. Beautiful. She notices such little things about him... Like when he says nothing is wrong but addresses her as Dr. Bose she knows something is infact bothering him. I also love how Dev is atleast openly acknowledging now that Sona is most definitely a very dear friend. There were some really sweet parallels between this phonecall and the time Dev called Sona when she was upset about him looking for her potential husband. *Takes mental note for a video đ* The way their relationship has progressed amazes me... How easily she uses the word 'Hum' for them.
Then ofcourse, the shocker. Dev getting engaged. Sona is a strong, strong girl.. The way she held up during working hours was nothing short of extraordinary to me. Maybe because somewhere she was mentally prepared for this to happen? It was sad how both of them remarked about the inevitability of the whole thing.. Sona to Elena and Dev to Natasha. The ring tryout was just cruel though. I loved Erica's expressions as Sona tugs at the ring in pure desperation just to get rid of it. So heartbreaking. I also loved Dev's assertiveness when it came to taking care of Sona. The kitchen scene was lovely too. He knew something was wrong when she left and simply followed her. He really couldn't care less about this engagement. Dev Dev Dev... Wake up! You are humming Bengali songs for Christ's sakes! Anyway, that was a sweet moment when he blows at her hand, hoping to ease her pain but ofcourse the damage goes much deeper than that. Sona, still being the strong one, asks him if he is feeling any better. Ah, the irony. There is so much love here... Sigh. Put the girl out of her misery, CVs!
Ishwari and Nikki - Supriya ji was amazing as usual. I love this show for helping you sympathize with Ishwari. Her dilemma was a very sad one. The fear of being replaced... The trouble with Ishwari is, she doesn't really know who she is if she isn't Dev's Mother. That's what she said earlier too - ."Dev se pehle main sirf Ishwari thi, lekin Dev ke paida hone ke baad main Dev ki Maa bangai" When you build your life around one person even if it is your own son like that... I really want to see Sona help Ishwari resolve all her conflicts and insecurities. I liked the protectiveness and sensitivity Neha showed towards her. Its a good change from the past taunts that she would throw at her Mother over this very issue.
Sona and Elena's scene was a heart breaker! How often has Sona reassured herself that this is enough. This feeling of being in love.. That's all she needs. That she can be whatever Dev needs her to be.. His friend, his confidante.. atleast she gets to be by his side. That's good enough right? No. Ofcourse not. It never was enough and it certainly won't do now.. Not when he really is going to get engaged to another woman. Anybody who has ever experienced unrequited love would be able to relate to those words. You fool yourself into believing that you are happy with what you have, you even allow the little things to give you some hope but then reality comes and hits you out of nowhere so that you are left with nothing but pain and heartbreak. Erica was fabulous in this scene. Sona's vulnerability, her pain and helplessness... The way she recounts the ring incident to Elena, mocks her own preformed beliefs and then just clings to her cousin and cries her heart out... Painful, so painful.
I really liked Neha and Dev's conversation too. That was a nice touch how Dev was a bit fidgety and awkward when he came into her room... For a change he really had no intention of asking Neha something about Ranveer or her marriage and his body language was a clear indicator of the same. I liked his clear struggle to even voice his questions here... This is new to him.. He is normally the one who provides an answer and not the other way around. Neha's answer đ Every line she said... Dev can only connect that stuff to one person and one person alone.. His beloved Miss Bose.
The last scene was a beautiful one. As Neets said in her post, I too loved how the pain was so unbearable for Sona that she practically wanted to get rid of the finger that that ring had briefly adorned, the moment still haunting her for hours afterwards... So raw and heartbreaking! Great sequence overall.. The vidder in me really loved how they mixed Dev and Sona's respective bits. His search for an answer to all this confusion continues while for her this is essentially the end. All her dreams are dead and every hope crushed. As the title suggests... An End and A Beginning.
Shaheer was awesome, the subtle nuances captured just right once again but today belonged to Erica through and through. She made sure that your heart went out to Sona which BTW is no easy task when every other show has the female lead crying her eyes out at the drop of a hat. Thank you Erica. :) More power to you! âď¸đ
