Chapter 5: Embrace of Love
Ishani opened her eyes, and gasped. "Ranveer, you're awake?"
He stirred and shifted his gaze to the window where the midnight breeze made the leaves rustle quietly.
"Ranveer?" Ishani spoke again, but Ranveer stayed silent, as though he had not heard her at all. She stood up, and walked upto his side. "I know you don't want to talk to me." She tried to sound casual, but her tone betrayed the emotions she felt. Ever since Ranveer was shot 4 weeks ago, things had changed between them, and he had become a stranger to her. But she knew only she was responsible for that, and had done her best to bring him back.
Ranveer looked at her in resignation and, sighing, stood up. Ishani caught his wrist and dragged him back to sit on the bed. She moved closer. "I know you're mad at me. But trust..." She couldn't say the word trust', for she had broken it completely that night.
"Trust you?" he questioned sardonically and Ishani felt her heart stabbed with his words. Only if he allowed her to explain things.
"I love you," she whispered, her heart skipping a beat as his eyes penetrated her gaze. Ranveer shook his head. He never believed when she said so, but she hoped tonight it will be different.
"You know what, Ishani?" he began slowly. "I want to trust you. I want to believe what you say is right, but I'll die if you break my heart ever again." There was a bitterness in his tone that made Ishani shiver despite warmth in the room.
Without saying anything else, Ishani moved closer, and wrapped her arms around him. "What is it you feel?" she said, resting her head on his chest.
"I'm too afraid to do that," he whispered, his voice hoarse. Ishani pressed herself closer, and closer: close enough to listen to his irregular heartbeats loudly.
"What now?" she whispered again, and closed her eyes, taking in the comfort only his embrace provided.
"Ishani," Ranveer said, his hands moving to her back and wrapping around her waist. He unintentionally pulled her closer. "Don't do this."
"You must know I love you and you have to trust me on that," Ishani answered.
Ranveer's head dropped to her shoulders, and at his touch, Ishani felt chills running through her skin. She held him incredibly closer, caressing his back lovingly, and not saying anything.
"I'm tired." She heard him say after a while, and without moving away, she smiled through her tears.
"I'll always be there for you," she said, her head nestled upon his chest. "I promise!"
Ranveer moved away, a question in his eyes.
"Trust me," Ishani murmured. And without any other warning, she felt him bend his head low and capturing her lips in a tender kiss.
And she knew he was back!
