First look:Saba Qamar and Irrfan in Hindi Medium

Whenever a Pakistani actor or actress leaves for India, our ears prick up, we start hyper-ventilating, and temporarily morph into vigilantes until their safe return to our homeland (some of us forget to switch back to normalcy though). We keep tab on their activities in the neighboring country just like an over-protective mother. Why?

That's because we want them to project the proverbial 'better image of Pakistan' and also because we're a nosy nation by nature and moral-policing is synonymous to breathing for us. Keeping our reputation intact, we got hold of our recent export to India, the very talented Saba Qamar to know about her Bollywood debut.

HIP recently broke the news that Qamar will be seen romancing Bollywood's powerhouse of talent, Irrfan Khan in Saket Chaudhry's next directional venture which is being produced by Dinesh Vijan and Bhushan Kumar - a T Series' and Maddock Films' presentation,

While we know Qamar is an intelligent actress and will make us proud; we just wanted to be sure she wasn't in wrong hands, so we threw a few questions her way and this is how she tackled them.

Firstly, tell us what took you to India earlier this month?

Well, I was in Bombay and I got to meet the whole team of my debut Bollywood film. People in India work a lot on the pre and post-production of a film, so for now, we just finalized the wardrobe and the treatment of the film. I'll now go to India by the end of July for a ten-day workshop, and the shoot will begin in August and go on till October. The film will release early next year Inshallah.

Tell us a bit about your role?

The story solemnly revolves around mine and Irrfan's character. My role has a lot of variation to it, in terms of acting and get-ups. The character is very dominating and the entire film is anything but stereotypical; it has elements of humor and emotions.

Irrfan is a brilliant actor and he doesn't take up any project which is not substantial enough.

What made you say yes?

The amazing script! Also, I have equal screen time as my Bollywood co-actor and the film gives me a solid margin to perform.

How was your experience of meeting Irrfan Khan?

Irrfan Khan was busy promoting his other film, and he specially took out some time to visit us. And I must say, he's absolutely amazing. I was literally awestruck when I saw him. Even after being such a renowned and acclaimed Bollywood star, he's so humble, soft-spoken and throws no tantrums at all. We got a chance to chat a bit and he was so accommodating. I'm really looking forward to working with him.

What should the audience expect from the film?

The film is very much commercial, but it's devoid of vulgarity. It features a few songs, but they're not irrelevant or out of context; the situation calls for them.

People who loved films like Piku and English Vinglish, would definitely love this too. And even if they don't, it will at least force them to think, as it's based on a social issue that is quite common in the subcontinent.

Any final thoughts?

I'd just say that there's a lot in life that can be done without interfering or looking down upon others. So, just stay happy and focus on what's important!
