DISQUIETUDE AND PLEASURE
We have been working in the same office and on the same project together for almost a week, though I was no more the mentor of the interns as Diya had returned and was their new mentor. I tried to start a conversation many a times with nisha, but she seemed to be not interested in talking to me, our conversation would start with a formal good morning, but would die soon, as it was only me who would eventually get irritated by her constantly calling me Kabir sir! That sounds so gross and that too from the mouth of the woman I got married to, I tried telling her many times to call me kabir, but she would continue calling me sir! I don't know what her problem is?! I know she is an intern in my office but she's my wife too, damn it..!! Why doesn't she understand that?! I don't know why but it doesn't feel good to me.
She again was late for the office today, it was my mistake, I switched off the alarm in the morning absent-mindedly and that must be the exact reason for her coming late to the office today. There was an important conference with some foreign delegates so I had to leave earlier, and I forgot to tell her too. I should have waked her up, and then she wouldn't have got into this problem. I was trying to call her once I reached the office, but it was switched off, I sent her a few messages, for which came no response. I kept waiting for her as she was the only intern who was missing, and she was definitely going to get a scolding for that from my boss, the vampire empress. And Diya was already into the work of filling my boss's ears as she had no other work. I tried stopping her from doing so, but she started cozying up with me, so I had to back off, such a "Beep" she is! Reluctantly, I went into the conference room and just started my presentation when Nisha came in and in a hurry, she forgot to ask for permission before entering in, she was huffing badly as if she came running all the way from home, I closed my eyes as I knew what was going to happen now, as this has happened several times with other employees before. I could see my boss glaring at nisha, and without thinking anything, she insulted her badly and told her to get out, I could do nothing right now though I tried to distract my boss, I saw tears in her eyes for the first time and it pricked me somewhere, and somewhere it was only me, who was the reason for her tears. Nisha looked at me with some hope, but I couldn't do anything, I was helpless! So ridiculous of me, I should have done something; she is my responsibility after all!
I finished my presentation as soon as possible, and walked out of the conference room in search of her. I went to her desk to see if she was there, but she wasn't, and as I was passing from the store room, I heard someone sobbing, I walked into the room and found her sitting in a dark corner, I got worried seeing her like this and went to her and held her hands and she got startled seeing me, while I tried to assure her that it was only me, I took her into a hug to comfort her but she got away from me, maybe I got too close to her all at once, I understood and sat before her and assured her of everything being fine. I asked her why her phone was switched off and why was she huffing when she came, for which she told me that the bachelors who live in our neighborhood had followed her and were making nasty comments at her, I knew that they were going to do something like this, and how ignorant I was being till now, I wanted to punch on their faces right then when she said that. She told me that they snatched her phone and threw it away when she tried to call me, and she had to hide from them and that's how she got late. I told her that I would not let them do anything to her, and assured her that I was always there and she can trust me. I told her that she can come with me to the office from tomorrow and that we would make some excuse if we get caught and she agreed, and this was our first ever proper conversation after we got married, though it was the situation due to which it happened.
We left the office together in the evening after everyone had left, and we had no other option left than my royal Enfield as I had not used my car since a year and It was in a deteriorated condition, it was not that my royal Enfield was a compulsion, the reason was just that I loved riding it, and this was the first time when she sat on my bike, right behind me, keeping her soft hand on my shoulder though she hesitated, I felt good; she has started trusting me, I guess! We went home together for the first time though being in the same office. As we reached our house, I gave her my phone as her mother called, taking my phone she went into the room, while I went to the bachelors' house to teach them a lesson for messing with my wife, but the door was locked, and I walked back into the house and started cooking the dinner. I forgot to tell you why I had started cooking and she doesn't! Or just let it be! will tell you some other time.
I made the dinner, and went to call her but seeing her, a smile appeared over my face, I leaned onto the door and kept looking at her, I saw a bright smile on her face for the first time and it was extremely beautiful, she was standing on the bed turning the other way, and was talking to her mother, telling her happily about her working in the same office I work in, she is so loud-mouthed, I giggled and hid behind the wall as I didn't wanted to rupture the smile on her face, she was so different, she was so open with people, and I had noticed that before too, then why does she behave as if I am a stranger to her? I think I need to give her some time and I have to make her have a faith in me first, before anything else. I think I should try to win over her as a true friend whom she could trust upon, rely upon, and share her feelings and emotions with, to share her pain with. I don't know when we'll be able to advance the relationship between us, but it'll take time, I think, but slowly everything will settle down, I have a great trust on this girl before me, more than myself! #have to be her friend first!
