Abhijeet Sawant, the first Indian Idol winner, is getting married to his long-time girlfriend, Shilpa Edwankar on December 4. The couple's families have booked Amrut Tara hall in Vile Parle for the D-day.
Shilpa stays near his earlier house in Shahu Nagar, Mahim. The two of them got engaged two years ago on October 7, Abhijeet's birthday.
Although he had denied news of his engagement earlier, he was extremely forthcoming about his wedding plans. "Yes, I am marrying Shilpa next month. Our families have consented to the marriage."
Why did he deny it earlier? Abhijeet replied, "Oh, that time, were just friends. Now, it's different." When he got engaged in October we visited Abhijeet's colony in Mahim. Several people confirmed that the engagement had indeed taken place. However, Shilpa's sister, Sheetal had said, "We are part of the same group, but there is nothing special between Abhijeet and my sister."
At that time, while Shilpa's mother claimed that Abhijeet and Shilpa are just good friends, Abhijeet's mother echoed, "Abhijeet bahut chhota hai. He is just 25. Why would he get married so soon? We just celebrated his birthday on October 7."
Abhijeet had then said, "There are many Shilpas in the colony and I am not close to any of them."
Abhijeet's bride-to-be works for an airline company. After marriage, Abhijeet will start shooting for his debut film Lottery, directed by Hemant Prabhu.
