Instead of googling Feminism , the article writer needs to understand feminism .. as much as hate to admit it , feminism as it is today cannot be defined by its textbook definition ..

If I had a nickel every time I quoted text book definition of feminism while arguing with self proclaimed feminists , well I would have had way too many nickels .. 😆 .. every time I quoted the definition , I got a classic " you know nothing Jon Snow" .. 😆 .. according to them , feminism is an ever evolving social concept & it cannot be defined by its text book definition .. every feminist identifies & defines feminism in his/her own way depending on what it means to him/her .. it is in fact a spectrum & cannot be bound within the boundaries of a text book definition .. I tried ( & failed ) to make them understand the dangers of existence of such a spectrum .. but the fact remains , the way you identify feminism may not be the way someone else identifies feminism .. it is all very very subjective .. the evolution of feminism has reduced it to a regressive concept ..no wonder there is so much aversion to being labeled as a "feminist" ..

However , I am kind of shocked to see some of the most strong independent women in the list shying away from the term "feminist" .. truly goes on to prove that text book feminism/ sane feminism / Emma Watson brand of feminism has been tarnished due to rabid insane feminism.. and I am pretty sure rabid feminists are going to blame internalized sexism pertaining to a patriarchal society instead of looking into the multiple interpretations / definitions / spectrum of modern feminism .. 😆

No one needs to Google feminism.

When people speak against feminism, they are not speaking against the text book feminism but the stupid over the top radical feminism.
People look into semantics of the word and not the context too much.

I think when these actresses say 'they are not Feminist'

They mean to imply - 'They don't hate men'

Read all of their answers n you would know why they don't want to be called Feminist.

I don't see it's their fault. Media and society, everywhere the term 'feminism' has become synonym for Female against Male.

And that is the reason these actresses have issue being called 'feminist'

The actual Text book concept of Feminism has been butchered. So I don't really blame them.

And anyway, I believe You really don't have to announce it to world. It's in your attitude.

Guys the original and simple definition of feminism according Merriam Webster is:
the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities

I don't understand how anyone can detach themselves from being a feminist. It's simply wanting equal rights. All the other notions are just stereotypes. It's not about male-bashing and burning bras. I think in the context of their sentences, they say they're not feminists but want liberation and equality---aka feminism. So if comes across as ignorance. Then they should have worded it better.

Talk about ignorance and celebs in one sentence, then all of them are bimbos.

They don't even know day to day happenings around them. There are more trivial issues these celebs have been ignorant about.

Most people go with the perception created around them. Not everyone is going to go n read or understand the definition. I still don't blame them. Coz whoever popular speaks about Feminism, they never dwell into actual concept. Most of them become radical in their outlook and hence, the same if conveyed to a normal person that feminism is female against male. Show me one person who is educated, well read has talked about Feminism in more clear light. Most of the feminism talk has been aggressive.

Many women I know, do not know this definition of Feminism. But they do know equality and fight for it. They are not ignorant to me. And, I am proud of them. Their attitude is so fierce. They fight for equality for them and for others too. But if you ask them, they would say.. they are not feminists. Not their fault. The term has been butchered. And not all ladies are as educated as you and me are on online platform. When we discuss these issues, we have to consider all types of lifestyle n not just one.

Feminism is often treated like a dirty word. In Indian media especially in the past few years or so it has become an inflammatory term. It has been misconstrued to be a militant man hating concept which it is not.

A decade ago, I myself was hesitant to call myself a feminist because people misunderstood it. Today I am feminist and proud.

A lot of people give flak to Taylor Swift, but I think she is a good example of a person who used to denounce feminism and has recently embraced it. Of course it is her PR image, but her transformation narrative is very understandable and relatable.
