So no releases this year for saif and kangana and just one for shahid.

I think it will be longest gap between vishal's directorial.

His films have usually a gap of 1 and a half or two years max.

SRK for swades over SRK veerzaara (Flop)

Ranbir for Rockstar (semihit)

Shahid for haider(average)

SRK(FAN) is best so far .hope he wins all the awards

At best SRK will get the critics choice award, Swades was universally appreciated, Fan was not.

It's more common than you think. All the small budget indie films that no one has heard off usually go through this route... Award recognition and then wide release. Plenty of examples.

Nil Battey Sannata, Chalk & Duster were the entrants at 63rd, even though they released in 2016.

Sairat (Marathi film) was another candidate at this years award and only released to much critical acclaim/success recently. It got a Special Mention for its actress.

All depends on what VB wants out of all this. The reason they had to push it to Feb 24, as Dec/Jan were already taken by the biggies.

I hope they go through the international festival route to gain momentum prior to release. That will be a different kind of promotion.

Anyway, if it doesn't enter this year, it will enter in the following year. I just hope the wait is worth it.

It wasn't when it came out. Most people called it preachy and super boring...like a documentary. It got its due much later tbh.

Too bad Christmas is taken this year, it would have been so great for Rangoon. & i want to believe they will go the international route first too! I can only imagine the buzz if it is acclaimed there. fingers crossed

I dont know about the other movies you named, I thought Nil Battey was nominated because it was already released on international circuits & got major acclaim from there (it would be interesting to find out if that is the criteria for moves like that)
