Chapter 8

The team reached the work place. Everyone was silent. Khushi too didn't know what to say or how to begin.

Shikha broke the silence. "So guys, let's introduce ourselves so that Khushi will get to know all of us...!!"

Everyone agreed. Khushi was so glad and thankful to have Shikha in the team.

Shikha was the first to introduce herself, although Khushi knew her. Then they all began their introduction one by one, telling their names and the department they came from.

"Hi! I am Varun... from the 'Accounts' department."

"I am Sonali... 'Design' department."

"I am Avinash, popularly known as Avi!!" He winked. Everyone smiled. "I too work in the Design department."

"Haiii Khushi!! I am Rutuja... But everyone calls me 'Dolly'!! You can call me 'Dolly' too!!"

"Huh... shuru ho gayi iski baatein...!!" murmured Sonali. Others giggled.

Dolly was busy talking. "I work in the 'Marketing' department. It is so nice to have you here Khushi...! But one thing I wanted to know, how did you manage to become the event-head the day you joined here??!"

Khushi felt very uncomfortable. Shikha noticed that.

"Dolly, this is just an introduction session. Baaki baatein hum baad mein karenge, okay?" said Shikha, trying to be as polite as she could.

"Okay okay... Khushi, you tell me the secret afterwards!!" Dolly winked.

Khushi forced a smile. The introduction session continued.

"Hi I am Pranav. I am from the Design department as well!"

"Rishab! I manage all the contacts and our ties with them."

Finally, it was Khushi's turn to speak. This introduction session had relaxed Khushi a bit. She spoke confidently and pleasantly.

"I am glad to meet you all!" said Khushi with a smile. "As you all know, I am Khushi. Today is my first day here, and the way it is proceeding, I am left surprised and shocked! And I am sure you all are too!! Well, whatever has happened, I hope you take it in the right spirit. I know very well that you all are among the best people working here and experienced too. I have very little experience, or none to be more precise. And for some reason, I am appointed as the head for this event. But that shouldn't affect our team relations. I am looking forward to working with you all. I am sure that I will get to learn many new things and concepts from Shikha Ma'am and you all. And no doubt this will be a wonderful experience!! And though I am appointed as the event-head, it is just nominal. We all are working together for this event, and no one, according to me, should be considered inferior or superior."

Everyone was listening attentively and was impressed with the thoughts of this young lady. Khushi added in a naughty tone, "Well, I cannot deny that I am the only one inferior here..." Some smiled and while the others laughed.

"So are you all ready to make this event successful?!!" asked Khushi with enthusiasm.

She got a unanimous nod and applause. Shikha was glad.

"What is this noise?" wondered Arnav as he came out of the conference room along with Aman and some others. "Yeh taaliyan kaun baja raha hai?" he said in rage. Who is clapping?

Aman and Arnav came to see what was going on. They saw everyone applauding for Khushi. Both stood silently at the door without being noticed by anyone.

"Thank you so much for your co-operation!" said Khushi gladly. "So let's get started!!"

Everyone was full of enthusiasm to work on this new project.

"But there's a small problem" said Khushi. Everyone had their eyes on her and all ears curious to know what the problem was. Khushi continued, "I don't know from where to start" she said innocently. Everyone smiled.

"Don't worry Khushi, we all will give you an outline about how any project proceeds...!!" said Shikha.

Everyone agreed. Khushi smiled, ready to learn everything.

All of them sat round the table to discuss their basic plan and schedule and also to explain Khushi how things work.

"She has something in her, doesn't she?" commented Aman, as he and Arnav saw everything from distance.

Arnav left the place without replying.

The day soon ended. Khushi met Anjali and Shyam in the parking area.

"Everything going alright?" asked Shyam.

"Yup!! Alright so far!!" replied Khushi.

"That's good!!" said Anjali.

The three left for home.

"Arey Khushi, aa gayi tum!" Garima was waiting for Khushi's return. Good to see you back!

Shashi too had returned from work and Dadi was there too.

"How was your day beta?" asked Shashi.

"It was great Babuji!! It was tiring... Main bohot thak gayi hoon! Aur Amma mujhe bohot bhookh bhi lagi hai!!" said Khushi.

"Come, let's eat... baaki baatein dining table par karte hain...!!" suggested Dadi.

They all sat around the dining table as Khushi told them all that happened.

"... woh Laad Governor yeh sab jaan boojh ke kar raha hai... Don't know what problem he has with me...!! This can't be just because I had quarrelled with him on the road that day...!! Pata nahi, lekin baat kuchh aur hai..." said Khushi. Don't know what, but there's something more to it...

"Dekho beta, whatever the reason is, you do your work properly... See to it that there are no complaints against you...!" said Garima, a bit worried.

"Haan Amma, don't worry... I will handle everything!!" replied Khushi assuring her mother.

And then Khushi told them about all the lovely people she met.

"Chalo, I must sleep now... Have to wake up early tomorrow...!!" said Khushi moving towards her room.

"Are you supposed to go to office early tomorrow?" asked Shashi.

"No Babuji! Office is at the usual time... but I need to get up early to brush up my knowledge... After all, I am the event-head!!" she smiled.

Garima, Shashi and Dadi felt proud of their little girl.

Khushi took out a couple of reference books from her shelf and placed them on the study table, so that the next day when she woke up, she wouldn't have to spend time searching for them.

Here Arnav was not in a good mood. He was in his room. Payal came in to call him for dinner. But he refused to go.

"Arnav, have something...!!" urged Payal.

"No Bhabhi, I am not hungry...!!!" replied Arnav, closing his eyes as he rested back his head on the wall.

Payal left the room and told everyone.

Nilima came in to call Arnav.

"Arnav, come eat something...!!" she said.

Arnav opened his eyes in anger. "Mrs. Raizada, you don't have to care about me!!" he shouted. "And don't try to take my mother's place!! Neither are you my mother, nor you will ever be!! And Papa isn't here doesn't mean you can take his place...!!!"

This hurt Nilima. Her eyes watered but Arnav never noticed those tears. She silently left the room.

"I had explained them everything... every single detail!! And what were they doing?? Praising that silly girl?!!" Arnav was talking to himself, enraged.

"Akash, Arnav's mood doesn't seem good today... Why don't you go talk to him..?!" suggested Payal.

Akash nodded and went to have a word with Arnav.

"Ma ji" Payal said to Nilima, "You know how Arnav says whatever comes to his mind whenever he is angry... You know how he is! Please don't mind his words...!"

Nilima just forced a smile and walked off to her room.

"Arnav... what's up bro?!! Why are you so upset?" asked Akash.

"Kuchh nahi Bhaiyya... Nothing, really!" Arnav replied.

Payal came in too, after making sure that Riya had slept.

"Any problem? Koi tension?" inquired Akash.

"Tension aur problem mujhe nahi, usay hone waala hai...!!" replied Arnav with an evil smile. "She is gonna be in real trouble!!"

"Don't tell me you are talking about that new girl in your office!!" exclaimed Akash.

"Sorry Bhaiyya, but yes, it's her!!"

"What are you doing Arnav?!! This is not right!!!" Akash tried to explain.

Arnav was not in a mood to listen.

"Listen Arnav, if that girl has done nothing wrong, you are not doing it right to trouble her like this!" said Payal. "What problem do you have with her?! Why don't you let her be?? You are behaving like this the day you first saw her!!"

"Yes!! I HAVE a problem with her. She makes me angry...!! I lose my temper whenever I see her... I feel a kind of fear creep over me..." said Arnav in a loud tone. "Gussa aata hai mujhe jab bhi main usay dekhta hoon...!!" he almost screamed. "I just don't want to see her in front of me!!!" His voice lowered as he stared into the air. "Darr lagta hai mujhe..." he almost whispered. I feel scared... And then he left the room.

"Arnav!!" Akash and Payal cried after him. But he was gone!
