I wasted my R10-00 and bought Ban Fan. I knew
I should have waited for it on tv. What a self indulgent movie by srk. Like was it impossible for
srk to be a fan of some1 else besides himself? I
liked the character Gaurav a lot but srk being a fan of himself and a star was just way to much. Why couldn't they have another actor being the STAR. And srk could have played Gaurav. He was darn brilliant as Gaurav but he was useless as the STAR. He looked old and boring as Aryan and just really, really tired. I remember reading comments about how Fan will be the start of SRK the actor and not the star. I dnt think srk is gona retire gracefully to 2nd lead. Coz if he was Fan would have been it a true 2 hero movie. And the reason why it failed was coz he it wasn't a 2 hero movie. There should have been another actor playing the star. Maybe Anil kapoor could have played the star in the movie. All I got to say is Fans wana see SRK alter ego on screen the romantic guru not the real hero. SRK is not Salman Khan whose fans would pay money to watch him play himself or even sleep. He is an actor. Salman has gone to another level where I dnt think he can be touched and I am not saying this as a Salman fan bt it was just so darn boring watching SRK be a FLAT STAR. There was no charisma there was star quality about his Aryan character it was just flat. I really tried to finish the movie. I think I might have ab 20 min more bt it was just too boring for me. I couldn't take it

Although your views seem to be fair & honest...& you are entitled to them
IMHO you've missed the main subtext of the movie...Gaurav is Aryan's Alter-Ego...they are similar in more ways than 1...
Their looks, the single-minded ambition, the Gargantum EGO, the adiyalpana...
that's why you get so many mirror & contrast shots in the film...
This (kinda) duality wouldn't have been possible with another star...
& the reason for that is the Star isn't shown in glowing light...He is insulted by a moneybags at his daughter's wedding where he's come to dance...
he is shown as a fading star ...He never said sorry to Gaurav ...that's the only thing he ever wanted..Coz of his ego...
He is also shown as flattening his wrinkles in his make-up room, insecure of how he looks...
SRK also said that Aryan was deliberately shown in high/harsh lighting coz they wanted to emphasize thae he was an aging & fading star...& at the end of the movie..I've heard a lotta peeps saying Whatta jerk! Why couldn't he just say sorry?

That's not to say that SRK hasn't been over-indulgent in the past..Ra.One case-in Point

Unfortunately for SRK FAN has been the collateral damage for his (off late) BAD career decisions...
Which is unfortunate coz FAN was his bravest career decision & he's stupendous in it!

Since when did become "vain" for an actor to do a double role? 😆 There have been plenty out there who have done it in the past yet I haven't seen this word thrown out there for them. Anywho , the whole premise of FAN is one where the fan looks like the superstar. Gaurav ain't just someone who is obsessed with Aryan , he also happens to be someone who kind of looks like him. Not to mention the movie wouldn't be what it was if they were two different actors playing the role of the fan and superstar. That betrays the whole concept of the movie. Infact to a lot of people out there who watched the movie , it was the role of Aryan that was tougher to pull off and portray. Aryan isn't shown as some holier than thou superstar. He's shown as someone who has insecurities , who's stubborn, who doesn't say sorry to Gaurav so the audience's sympathy for the most part always lies with Gaurav no matter how many outrageous things he does to get the attention of Aryan. It's not "vain" at all to play Aryan , it infact takes a whole lot of courage to play Aryan. Aryan is obviously written keeping Shahrukh's journey in mind yet Aryan ain't Shahrukh. So for Shahrukh to portray that role takes immense amount of guts as the audience out there a lot of times can tend to forget the distinction while watching the movie and would end up drawing comparisons between Shahrukh and Aryan. Aryan is from no angle a one dimensional character , he's not like the characters you watch on screen a lot of times where they are just shown as goody too shoes , he's someone who has layers , he's someone who is complex , just like Gaurav is so for Shahrukh to take on the challenge and then end up being flawless in both roles is something I find extremely admirable. Then again to each his own. It's a movie. Obviously it will evoke different responses from different people :)

I would though like to throw my two cents out there on the other things you said with regards to SK. Trust me there are plenty of fans out there who would watch Shahrukh in whatever movie he's in , no matter how crappy the script might be 😆 so that "phenomena" (if one can call it that) ain't just exclusive to SK. But I do agree with you when it comes to the actor bit 😃. We as fans I think do have a lot of expectations from him as an actor. We do want to see him playing varied roles whether then it be in off beat movies or masala movies and it's good to see a superstar who's doing his best to play roles that are quite varied. After starring back to back in three out and out commercial movies , it's good to see his upcoming line up of movies. It's immensely satisfying as a fan for sure :).

I didn't get it coz I enjoyed Gaurav more. I just felt when they showed the star more it was so boring hence me not finishing it and getting tired of it. I get the old part but it felt like somehow Srk didn't know how far to push the old star part. And I truly felt like the scenes that I saw of the STAR was just flat and srk wasn't bad in it bt he wasn't good enough in it as well for me. I think the story could have been changed abit and it would have been more interesting for me that is. Whilst watching I couldn't help but think that Anil kapoor could have been a better choice for the STAR. And srk should have simply done Gaurav coz the star was just inconsequential. Gaurav for me is 1 of srks best performance hands down. I think srk acted better than Big B in Paa that's hw much I liked the character from the way he walked, talked, stood srk as Gaurav was brilliant. Bt Aryan takes away from that performance coz I couldn't connect to srk as that character.

other actors play twins or even a father and son role. Here for me I felt SRK was not good enough to play Aryan. He was boring didn't do anything for me.

No offense here to Anil Kapoor as I do think he's one of the finest actors out there and even if for a second I put aside the script of FAN, Shahrukh playing a fan to Anil Kapoor as the superstar would have been just funny. Not because I think Anil Kapoor ain't a big enough superstar, of course Anil is huge but Shahrukh as a superstar has this aura that nobody else does. Each superstar has a different vibe, has a different journey, Shahrukh's has been one that many out there aspire for as he ain't from Bombay, ain't from the industry yet has been in top form as an actor and as a superstar for more than two decades now. Maneesh wrote Aryan keeping Shahrukh's journey in mind so to see someone else play Aryan would be amusing to say the least. Not only what you're suggesting betrays the whole concept of the movie but even if one were to put aside the concept for a second, it still wouldn't be appealing at all. The appeal of FAN for many lies in the fact that here's an actor who is 50 years old yet plays a character who's 25 in a movie where he also plays a 50 year old superstar. For that actor to pull off both those roles with the same ease is what was the challenge here and he conquered it beautifully, in my humble opinion of course.

Vanity really? SRK never played himself in FAN, its inspired from his super star life but NOT his real self. The reason why they chose SRK was to bring out the fact that both bear similarities from looks to their personality. Also later on Gaurav impersonates Aryan at public events and home, and gets him defamed. That would not be possible with another actor. The plot would be different with another actor.
Many actors have played double roles -father-son -BigB, Jitendra, Dharmendra, and Mehmood played all father-mother-grandpa and himself.😆

ON Salman fans, yes they are going out to watch his crap movies too but then every actor has his peaks and that time every thing works.

SRK rode the wave too and well its his performance which will be remembered and not the wave.
