Chapter 3

Khushi got ready in a hurry. She went towards her scooty and wore her helmet. She thought for a moment and changed her mind. "What if the scooty again betrays me mid-way? Better to go by Auto..." She removed her helmet kept it inside the dickey and locked it. She kept the scooty keys in her satchel and hired an auto-rikshaw from the auto-stand across the road.

Khushi kept checking her watch throughout the way and kept telling the driver, "Bhaiya drive faster, please!"

Several thoughts poured into her mind...

"Don't know why I have been called... Yeh zaroor uss Laad Governor ka hi kaam hoga! I agree it was my mistake... But, he didn't even take my interview and moreover what all he said to me! Everything was over yesterday; don't know what more is to happen now!"

Her link of thoughts was broken by a voice... "Madam, we have reached! You need to pay 37 rupees..."

Khushi paid the driver and came out of the auto. She looked at the building as she entered the gate. She went through the lobby towards the reception.

The receptionist welcomed Khushi with a sweet smile. "Hello Ma'am! How may I help you?"

"I am Khushi Kumari Gupta. Actually, today about an hour ago I received a call from here. I was told to..."

"Yes! Please wait here.." said the receptionist pointing to the half-empty seats in front. "You will be called in shortly"

"Thank you!" said Khushi as she nodded.

As Khushi sat down, she thought of asking the receptionist the reason she was called here. But she discarded the thought. "Whatever insult I am to face, be it inside the closed doors of the cabin..." she thought nervously.

She waited for her name to be called.

Arnav's PA, Roma, came out from Arnav's cabin and gave some papers to the receptionist. She told the receptionist something and left the reception area. Khushi waited anxiously.

Just then, the receptionist called out... "Khushi Kumari Gupta!"

Khushi stood up instantly... "Yes!"

The satchel which was kept on Khushi's lap fell down. The receptionist smiled at it. Khushi picked the satchel up with trembling hands and walked to ahead.

"Shyam Manohar Jha!" the receptionist called out another name.

A young and good-looking Shyam stood up in response and came up to the reception.

Khushi looked at him. "Who's he? And why is his name called along with mine? Whoever he is, he is so handsome!" thought khushi.

The receptionist handed some papers to them saying, "Please sign in front of your name on these two papers!"

The papers contained the details of both of them along with their photographs. Khushi and Shyam signed on the papers. Khushi remembered, "These are the details I had filled while applying online for the job!"

The receptionist told both of them to enter Arnav's cabin. Khushi didn't understand why Shyam was with her.

Khushi thought of asking the receptionist about it. "Mansi ji, are you sure we both are to go in together?" she asked.

"Oh yes! I am pretty sure!" replied the receptionist. "By the way, Ms. Khushi, how do you know my name? I don't remember having told it!"

"Caught it on your Id-card!" said Khushi with a smile.

Shyam was impressed. "Smart!" he complimented.

Khushi had mixed feelings of confusion and fear and anxiousness as she entered the cabin with Shyam. There he was, gazing out of the window, with his back at them. Khushi gulped with tension and fear. She did not know what the next moment would bring!

"Excuse me Sir!" said Shyam, to announce their presence.

He turned to face them. And Khushi stared at him with a confused look! "Who is he?"

He was not Arnav but someone else. "Good Morning!" he said with a fresh smile.

"What Good Morning'?!!" thought Khushi with a sad face, "It seems a very bad morning for me!"

The person introduced himself as "I am Aman Verma, Assistant Manager of the AR Group. Please be seated both of you!"

Khushi said to herself "He is the same person who interviewed Anjali, I guess"

All three sat down. After a pause, Aman continued... "So, Ms. Khushi Kumari Gupta and Mr. Shyam Manohar Jha, you both were here yesterday, along with many others, for your interviews. It was not at all expected that you both would..."

Just then Arnav entered the cabin, not realizing the scenario inside...

"Aman, what are you..." and he stopped suddenly.

Before he completed the sentence, he saw Khushi and Shyam sitting there. His face turned red with anger.. Khushi unknowingly stood up, a bit scared of the raged sight.

Arnav left the cabin in anger. Aman excused himself and went out behind Arnav, calling out his name.

Khushi didn't know what was going on. She looked at Shyam who seemed nervous as well. Probably he too had said or done something wrong during the interview. Now Khushi was pretty sure that it was all about her stupidity the day before, that she was called here. Her eyes watered.

"Hey Devi Maiyya, what have I got myself into!!"
