Chapter 2

The person in front stood up as he realized it was the same girl he had ran into some time ago. "What the!!" he said to himself, "What is this girl doing here?"

"Hello Mister!!" said Khushi angrily, "I am talking to you!! Let me tell you that this is Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada's cabin!! You must have read the nameplate on the door while entering..."

"Oh really?!!" said the person sarcastically, "I didn't know... Thank you for informing! You may leave now..."

Khushi felt insulted. She roared back at him... "Excuse me!!" she banged her file on the table, "Now it is my turn for the interview!! And I am not going anywhere till I am done with it!! And who are you to tell me to leave?!" The person kept staring at her in anger. Khushi continued, "You drive Mercedes doesn't mean you..." She stopped suddenly and was lost in her thoughts... "Mercedes!! OMG! Is he Mr. Arnav? No no, doesn't seem so... But he can be..."

Just then a clerk came in with a file... "Arnav Sir, wanted your signature on this..." he said.

Arnav signed on the papers and the clerk left.

Khushi was tensed after seeing all this. "How stupid of me!! What did you do, Khushi... What will happen now! Hey Devi Maiyya, please save me..." she murmered biting her nails.

She looked at Arnav who was staring back at her in anger. She somehow managed to speak... "I-I am s-sorry Sir... actually I didn't know that you were..."

"Arnav Singh Raizada" Arnav interrupted sternly. "Now you may leave!!"

"Sorry Sir! I am really sorry! Sir, please... You can't do this, Sir! You can't tell me to leave without conducting my interview. This is injustice to me!" Khushi said defending herself.

Arnav sat down in anger. He began doing some work on his laptop, ignoring Khushi. Khushi went on... "Sir please, listen to me once..."

Arnav rose in anger... "Is anything else left to say?!!"

Khushi was taken aback. But she didn't give up... "Sir, you can't reject me on the basis of whatever happened till now... You ought to see my capability and my work once!"

Arnav was more angry now. "Don't you understand when told once? Leave!!" he yelled.

"Huh!! Laad Governer!!" murmered Khushi.

"Excuse me? What did you just say?" asked Arnav narrowing his eyes.

"N-nothing!! K-k-kuchh bhi toh nahi..." replied Khushi.

"Many people are waiting outside for their turn. You are wasting time!! Leave!"

"Haan haan... I am not dying to work in your company!!" replied Khushi angrily.

Arnav was shocked. "Who would want to hire someone like you and invite company's loss!!!" he snapped back.

Khushi had not expected such an insult. She slowly took steps backward one by one, her eyes filled with tears. She somehow managed to hold back her tears from rolling down and ran out of the cabin. Everyone stared at her as she came out. The next person was called in and the interviews continued.

Anjali was done with her interview and came out happy, as if she had already got the job. She searched for Khushi but couldn't find her. She asked at the reception but got a negative reply. So, she called on Khushi's number which was switched off. Now she was tensed. "Where is Khushi gone?" She dialed Khushi's residence number. Khushi's mother, Garima, received the call.

"Hello Aunty, I am unable to reach Khushi's cell phone... Is she at home?" asked Anjali.

"Yes beta, she has returned home..." replied Garima, "But don't know what has happened, she has locked herself in her room since she came back! I tried asking her, but she didn't tell anything..."

"Dont worry Aunty, I will be there soon!!"

The call ended.

Anjali reached Khushi's residence. She went to her room and knocked the door. She was very excited to tell Khushi about how her interview went.

"Khushi? Open the door yaar... What happened?" asked Anjali tapping on the door.

Khushi wiped her tears and opened the door trying to be normal.

Both sat on the bed.

Anjali had no patience right now. She began the conversation, "Why did you come here without telling me? You didn't even wait for me!"

Khushi looked away without saying anything.

Anjali was super excited to share her experience. "You know what, my interview was superb!! It was Aman Sir who conducted my interview; he is such a nice guy!! I mean, he didn't at all make me feel nervous! And he was very impressed with me and my work till now! I am hoping that I get this job. I think I will get through..."

Khushi tried to be happy for her best friend, but she could not hide her sorrow.

Anjali noticed something was wrong. "Sorry yaar, I just kept saying about myself... What happened, Khushi? You seem..."

And before she could complete, Khushi hugged her and began crying.

While crying, Khushi told her, "I messed up everything... I am an idiot... It's all my fault... And that Laad Governor, I just hate him!!"

"Calm down, Khushi... Tell me what happened..." said Anjali.

Khushi narrated everything. Meanwhile, Garima brought juice for both the girls and listened to the whole incident.

"Bolne se pehele kuchh toh socha karo Khushi!! You speak anything without thinking twice..." said Garima, upset with Khushi's behaviour.

"But Amma, he was at fault too!!" said Khushi in defence.

"But it was you who had to lose the job" replied Garima.

Khushi began crying again. Anjali and Garima tried to console Khushi saying she would get an opportunity for a better job one day. Anjali left with a heavy heart. Their dream of working together was into pieces.

The next day arrived. The phone began ringing. Khushi was still in her bed. Garima picked up the phone...

"Hello!... Yes, just a moment, I will call her!" said Garima over the phone. She covered the speaker on the receiver and called out to Khushi, "Khushi!! There's a call for you...!"

Khushi came on the line..."Hello, Khushi speaking!... Where?... Jee?... Jee... I'll be there!"

The call ended. Garima looked at Khushi with a questioning gaze. Khushi's father, Shashi, asked her... "Who was it Khushi?"

Khushi's grandmother, Dadi, as Khushi called her, listened keenly as Khushi spoke...

"I have been called at the AR Group office in an hour..." she replied, still confused about the reason behind the call.

Everyone was surprised.

"Yes... Don't know why..." said Khushi answering the question mark on everyone's face. Looking up she prayed, "Hey Devi Maiyya, sab sambhaal lena...!!!"
