This question has been haunting me recently now that we've finally got to see some sort of an attempt at educating Dhani.( BTW the manner in which it is being shown is frankly not to my liking)
Dhani and Dulari seem to come from maybe rural backgrounds and are not wealthy but nevertheless they do not look or behave otherwise to be so deprived that Dulari could not have provided her daughter with the basics of education!
Once we were shown a flashback of Dhani's first weeding where she was dancing. Neither Dulari nor Dhani seemed to be really poor. We are at the beginning of the 21st century and even in villages now girls do get education at least till the primary level. So the theory that in remote villages education of women is a taboo as it was probably the case say even 30 years back will not hold true.
I also remember that in the episodes in the start we were shown a Dhanil who could at least scribble down the name and emai id of Viplav but the cvs made a blunder during the Tripurari's release from jail where we were shocked to see her totally unlettered that she had to give a thumb impression. Therefore going by that we have a Dhani who now struggles to write her husband's name even with Kam guiding her hands.! So now we will have to take her as illiterate
Please give your opinion on this my friends.
