‘Koi project usse bhi bada hoga’: Fahmaan Khan on ‘Imlie’s’ SUCCCESS, REGRETS & more

Television actor Fahmaan Khan has carved a niche for himself with his impressive body of work over the years, but it was his stint in Imlie that truly catapulted him to widespread fame. The show’s massive success not only made him a household name but also cemented his place among the most loved faces on television.

In an exclusive chat with India Forums, Fahmaan opened up about whether the success of Imlie made it easier for him to find work, the pressure that comes with a successful project, and whether he ever regrets some of the career choices he has made along the way.

Speaking about the impact of a successful show like Imlie on an actor’s career, Fahmaan admitted that success does make a difference. “Of course, aapko farq toh padta hai, aapko fayda toh hota hai. They say that har actor ke liye ek project hona chahiye jo accha kare, taaki uski understanding, uski value badh jaaye.”

However, the actor was quick to point out that success brings along its own set of challenges and expectations.

“But with that comes a lot of expectations also, where you will have to now, after that, do much better than that. It’s not every time only about the actor. It’s project alignment. Sometimes your writer is not okay, sometimes your director is not okay, sometimes you are not doing well, you’re not in the right headspace to work well, sometimes you’re not in the right project for you to actually work well.”

He further explained that a project’s success is rarely dependent on one person and that multiple factors contribute to making a show a hit.

“A lot of factors come together for a project to be that big, and not everything takes off at the same time. So with that kind of name, fame and success comes a lot of responsibility and a lot of expectations. Sometimes they are not met, sometimes they are. But to keep going on, I think moving on, you have to keep doing the work.”

Maintaining an optimistic outlook, Fahmaan shared that he prefers focusing on the process rather than worrying about outcomes.

When asked if he ever looks back at the choices he has made and wonders whether some decisions could have been different, Fahmaan admitted that such thoughts do cross his mind. However, he does not view them as regrets.

“Of course I do. Of course I do. There are so many times you sit down and think, ‘Yeah, wish I did that.’ But that’s not regret. That’s teaching you, learning yourself. You are telling yourself that if you have this opportunity again, don’t make a mistake. Don’t repeat your mistakes.”

The actor emphasized that hindsight is not about dwelling on missed opportunities but about learning from them.

“That is not sitting down and saying, ‘Yaar, I regret not doing that.’ No. You tell yourself that that could have been a better choice in that situation, but at that moment you could only do that much. You picked a role and then you hoped that it would work. And this is how it works.”

Calling acting an unpredictable profession, Fahmaan concluded by saying that uncertainty is something every actor must learn to live with.

“I think that’s why, as an actor, you are always on the edge. You’re living on the edge completely. It’s a very unpredictable job, a very unpredictable world. But you chose it. So you tend to tell yourself that the best thing is that you did what you could do, and the rest will happen.”
