The Math Exam!
Dev returned home tired, working all day long at the office. Though fatigue was wearing him off, he made his way to the kitchen, to meet Dr. Bose and tell her that his Mom's new reports would be coming tomorrow. The reason felt like a good enough excuse for Dev to talk to Sonakshi. These days he was just making up reasons to talk to her.
He made his way to the kitchen and to his disappointment saw only Kichu Bhaiyya standing there, cooking dinner. 'What? She left already? It's only 7:30!' thought Dev, slightly disappointed. 'Sonakshi, mera matlab, Dr. Bose, itni jaldi cheli gayi?' he asked Kichu Bhaiyya. 'Ek minute! Phir se kuch hua kya, mami ne kuch kaha use?' he added, panicking. 'Ji kuch nahi hua bhaiyya! Woh Nikki betiya ka exam haina, woh isiliye unke saath hain. Unhe padha rahi hain.' said Kichu Bhayyia.
Of course, thought Dev. How could he forget. Just a week ago Nikki raised a pandemonium in the house. Her exams were about to begin and she knew nothing. Obviously, Dev thought, she was always on her phone. When could she study? But Dr. Bose arrived at his house, pecisely at that moment. Empathizing with Nikki, she agreed to tutor her. She and Nikki always got along very well.
As Dev passed by Nikki's room, he contemplated asking Sonakshi for 5 minutes so that he could talk to her. But Nikki's exam was important. He would not disturb her. So he proceeded to his room, thinking he'd talk to her when she and Nikki were done studying. eanwhile, Sonakshi was at her wit's end! She didn't know Nikki had Math exam today. Had she known it before, she'd have made up some excuse to go home fast. Because, if she agreed to tutor somebody for Math, it would mean she signed up for her public humiliation! She was utter crap at it! Her only terror of school days was Math. But still, she was better than Nikki, she thought, as both of them looked at each other despondently, hands running through their hair.
'How the hell did they get this equation from this?' asked Nikki, frustrated. 'Um, I was about to ask you the same thing!' admitted Sonakshi lamely. 'Sona Di, aap ko Math nahin aata?' asked Nikki suddenly, giggling. 'Bilkul nahin,' Sona said, embarassed. 'Agar mere school ke teacher ko pata chalta na ki tum MUJHSE Math seekh rahi ho, toh woh tumhe pagal khane mein admit kar dete.' 'But you are still better than me!' said Nikki quite unabashed.
It was nearing 8 o' clock and Sonakshi was still not out. Dev, smiled unthinkingly. Nikki never studied past 7 o' clock before. Sonakshi's company was definitely bringing some good changes in her. He went to Nikki's room, to remind Sonakshi that she had to go home. Though he liked having her around, he didn't want her to reach home late. She was now his responsiblity.
He knocked on the door which was slightly open. No response. He opened it further more. And there lying on the bed was Sonakshi Bose, looking peaceful and breathtakingly beautiful! Niikki was sleeping as well looking worn out, her head resting on Sona's shoulder. He rapped hard on the door to wake them up from their fantasies. Sonakshi and Nikki got up with a jolt, as if they were electrified! Dev laughed out loud, looking at Sonakshi. Terrified Soankshi was a feast to his eyes! 'It was only a power nap, Bhaiyya!' said Nikki looking equally terrified. Sonakshi nodded along still looking flabbergasted. 'You both don't now how to do Math?' he asked clamly. They nodded. 'How many more chapters are left?' he enquired. '3 more!' admitted Nikki in a small voice. 'Kya! Nikki raat hogayi hain!' Dev said, shocked. 'Mr. Dixit, don't do that. Aap aise keh kar use panic kar rahe hain!' said Sona sternly. Heaving a sigh, Dev said, 'Chalo, I'll help.' 'Aw! Thank you, Bhaiyya! Aur Sona Di, please stay with me, okay! Warna Bhaiyya mujhe daatenge' said Nikki. 'Tumhare saath mujhe bhi,' mumbled Sona looking furitively at Dev, 'Still, just so you don't get tensed I'll stay with you!' Dev smiled looking at their easy camaradeire.
Dev taught Nikki all she needed, clearing the doubts she and Sona posed in between. Sometimes their doubts were so ridiculous, he couldn't stop himself from laughing out or giving them an incredulous look. They finished Algebra, after Dev answered the gazillion doubts Sona posed which were this time slightly genuine. 'Samajhi, Nikki?' he asked turning towards his sister. She was asleep!
ev and Sona were so involved in their study session, they did not notice her sleep. 'Don't worry, Mr. Dixit. Nikki will get good enough marks. She need not ace all exams, right? A 70 is good too.' Sonakshi said, smiling at Nikki's sleeping figure. 'You had to be up till so late for her,' Dev said, looking at the clock on the wall, 'I'll drop you home.' Sona accepted.
'By the way, I did not know Sonakshi Bose was this hopelessly bad at Math!' said Dev grinning openly at her as he wound the car round the street. 'That is downright rude! You are bad at lots of things as well' bristled Sona in her defence. 'Like acting out a movie's name?' said Dev grinning at her rather arrogantly. 'Well, yeah! You need to be talented to do that even. And that you LACK very evidently!' finished Sona viciously. 'Well, I might lack that,' said Dev smiling slightly mischeivously as she got down at her house, 'But I have the talent to appreciate true beauty!' 'Which is what?' Sona asked, thoroughly perplexed. 'Which means, I want to tell you that you look absolutely stunning today! Orange does suit you a lot!' finished Dev. Starting the car, he said, 'Have a good night, student!' And Sona was left behind feeling baffled, annoyed and elated all at the same time. The somersaults were back in her stomach. When was the last time she felt those somersaults in her stomach? Oh, it was only that evening, when she woke up and saw him laughing.
Done! It is not proofread. By the way how are you people at Math. I am more than okay. Definitely better than Sona, though! 😆
P.S. My name has a Dixit in it as well. Also, I know I keep saying random stuff. 😛 😆
I know it's too big. Next tie, it'll be short.
