Both Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui have been delivering superlative performances one after another... but do not figure in the winners list of popular awards... After Filmfare last year, Irrfan even posted a disppointed tweet
Why are these gems of actors not getting their due in Bollywood?

Bollywood is a star-driven industry. It was, has been and will probably remain that way. India as country still loves masala and entertainment and doesn't go in mass to theatres for serious movies with powerful acting.
Biggest proof is every single movie of Rohit Shetty crossing 100 crs.
Awards in bollywood generally go to actors who gave a superlative performance in a hit movie grossing huge collections...
Nawaz's or Irfan solo movies don't seem to cross a certain threshold of boxoffice success..
this is just my view..

As i see it, a consistent barometer of award winning actor has been that only doing a great job yourself is not enough, the film also has to do a great job based on the budget... you have to prove that your great job (acting, performance) made the movie a success at boxoffice..

They aren't stars

They are a means to an end ⭐️

Whatever you have said is true for the popular awards. But what about critics ?

In addition, both have starred last year in mainstream Hindi movies that have done well.
Nawaz in Badlapur and BB
Irrfan in Piku

I felt they deserved recognition for these roles, but sadly it did not come by
