@Ginak, Aarti and Sareeta: Your Dilli reminiscing is really making me nostalgic as well...Haven't been there in AAAAGES...but always loved it whenever I got to go there...Aakhir Dilwaalon ki Dilli ki baat hi kucch aur hai! 😉

I didn't realize Karan's way of speaking Hindi is the Delhi way of speaking it....For me, I think I'm just fida over how well he speaks Punjabi, whatever little he does 😳 It's so rare to see people get the accent right, and I love him for that!

@ ginak....aaah!! delhi bonding!!! not that am a big fan of the city (for various reasons), but well, hindi bolo to dilli-waalon jaise bolo!!!

and anu...karan's hindi is as delhi as it can get!!!! dilliwale speak hindi in a slightly crisp, yet musical way with a very characteristic twang that is reminiscent of punjabi, but not quite like punjabi!! some very typical expressions that i cannot currently recall, but am sure ginak can supply some till my tea wakes me up completely!!!

@Aarti: Aah...that's probably why I like the way Karan's hindi a lot too...I've lived in the North most of my life, so I probably didn't notice...cuz Hindi is spoken a lot like that in Punjab as well...only slightly more punjabified than Delhi punjabi 😆 😆

It's probably the vaguely reminiscent touch of Punjabi that I like so much without realizing it 😉

Morning all!!
Nice to see so much of Delhi talk going around...was born in & spent considerable period of my childhood & working life in Delhi...& never really knew any other kind of hindi till I moved to mumbai...voh to hindi bhasha ki taang tod daite hain. And Anu am used to lots of punjabi also, even learnt it as a third language for a couple of years!!

And aarti like u I don't like Delhi too much for various reasons (esp. as a place for working women),comparatively love B'bay a lot.

What struck me abt this show was that unlike other youth oriented shows they do not show the protagonists using too much hinglish/english...such a pleasure to hear proper hindi for a change. They rarely even casually switch to english which we all often do in our conversations.

Sareeta & anu...am delighted to find like minded souls & look fwrd to having some scintillating convos abt Dr. A & his attributes! 😆

@Shakira: Hey! I learnt Punjabi for many years in school too! Six to be precise...even gave my board exams in it 😉 I can read, write and speak it fluently! We learnt a lot of interesting punjabi classic literature in school as well 😳 😳

and yeah, you're totally right about the refreshing portrayal of the youth in this show as well...I truly appreciate that the dialogues (mostly) sound like regular casual hindi...not too much hinglish, or English as we're all prone to in real life 😆 😆

Oh by the way I dont like Delhi too much either. I like Bombay a lot more. Safer for women. In Delhi, you dont feel safe once out of the house. The buses the less said the better. Attitudes are very narrow-minded towards women (my experience may be wrong).

I cant think of any phrases. It is just the manner of speaking I guess. They just come out naturally for those who speak them and sound very different than the UP Hindi/Bombay Hindi. I guess it is the Punjabi influence. Even the dress style is so different. Delhiites some of them anyway have a classic sense of dressing. I somehow feel that in Armaan too at times and surprisingly my mother in law.

Hey sorry for digressing from the post and going on and on about something totally off.

so we all agree that the city as such is not the best place to be, but yes, the language of the people is lovely!!

and karan's diction makes it all the more special...
