Decoding Kyunki's mother-daughter contrast
Tasneem Sheikh aka Mohini from Kyunki is a very funky character with negative shades. The elder daughter-in-law of Tulsi, she is very hungry for money and had earlier married Harsh (Tulsi's son) only for that. Her daughter Archita (Gunjan), on the other hand, is very serious and practical towards life and respects the views of Tulsi dadi. We ask the writer Anil Nagpal about the contrasting mother-daughter personalities.
Explains Anil, "Mohini is not a full fledged negative character. We introduced her because a comic element was missing at that time as Daksha was not part of the show then. So I wrote this funny character having slightly negative shades. Mohini is always happy and behind money. I had written a scene between Mohini and Archita where, in a party, a handsome hunk comes and Mohini tells Archita 'Jao us ladke ko impress karo aur main uske mummy se tumhare rishten ke bare mein puchti hoon'. Scripting interesting characters like Mohini satisfies me a lot. Now, she will be seen doing some more funny acts with Daksha chachi which will be hilarious."
About Archita's characterisation, Anil says, "She is in contrast to her mother because of her troubled marriage. But she is not behind money as she loves Tulsi dadi very much and, despite her difficulties, wants to be on the right path. She will make her mother realize that money is not everything in life."
He reveals further, "It was Ekta's decision to create such a contrast which is being really liked by Kyunki fans."
Tasneem Sheikh (Mohini) herself says, "It's quite interesting and funny. This name has given me immense popularity. I'm enjoying playing this bitchy yet humourous character."
We hope that both Mohini and Archita continue to entertain the audience in their own way!
