Okay people try different tactics to promote the movie and most famous is tactfully portraying the love life of the movie's lead actors in public eye.

I mean does it really work? Do people go to watch movies because X and Y hooked up and had quickie in barhroom, or X and Y broke up, making X broken and abla nari or abla nara.

I don't think it works but why do movie makers persists with it? Lack of creativity in marketing? Or just lazy marketing by the movie.

Yes it does. That's why corporations spend big money on advertising marketing research and analysis mystery shoppers and creativity. We are not in 60s. There is a huge PR machine behind every actor production house etc. Whose job is to protect their assets.

Not really. But the makers possess a weird obsession about it.

not at all !! general public dont spend much time on actors love and break ups news !!! once the WOM is good, people forget all these controversies and watch the respective movies... doesnt matter how much they make promotions /controversies..

Naa. Dont think its going to help much with respect to ppl going to the movies. But ya it does help in keeping themselves in the news all the time. And in some cases, overdoing it can kill audience's interest in you, for instance, Ranbir. His personal life has been talked about so much off late that his movies have taken a back seat. So it can go either ways.

I think it's a vicious cycle - marketing teams try to create interest in whatever way they can, most of the journalists are lazy and want quick stories, most actors think being over-flirty at promotions is the way to charm the media, a lot of the online community is interested in shipping actors and creating fan fiction. So I don't think it is a trend that will end anytime soon.

Not anymore, with so much reporting and publicity, public has started to see through the facade and remains unfazed by all this theatricals. They judge the movie on its entertainment quotient.
