A few days later, Randhir was in their room, watching cricket. He was so engrossed in the game, that he couldn't see anything else - not even his wife.

Somya and Raghav were playing a board game in Somya's room and Sanyukta had just entered her own bedroom.

"Randhir, I need your dirty clothes. I'm going to do laundry," Sanyukta said.

Randhir ignored her and continued to watch.

"Come on Indiaaa," he was saying, sitting on the edge of the bed.

Sanyukta pressed her lips together angrily.

"Did you hear what I just said?" Sanyukta asked him with irritation.

"What? No..." Randhir murmured before screaming. "Shit! No don't do that!"

"Randhir!" Sanyukta yelled.

He didn't pay her any attention and he continued to watch the match, his eyes fixated on the screen.

Sanyukta went directly up to the bed and climbed on his lap, pushing him down backwards.

"What are you doing? Get off! Let me watch!" Randhir said, sounding irritated.

"I need your laundry," Sanyukta replied with gritted teeth.

"It's in my closet... just get it!" Randhir argued, trying to push her off.

"I know later on after I do the laundry, you'll come to me and ask me why your socks aren't washed... because your laundry is hidden in random places!" Sanyukta argued.

"Okay okay, please let's carry on with this conversation later... let me watch the match!" Randhir said with irritation. "Please get off."

She was holding him down firmly on the bed, her hair falling over his face.

"Sanyukta!" he groaned.

"Randhir!" she said. "I want my laundry first."

"Please, after the match," he was begging.

"I need to sleep after your match ends!" Sanyukta argued. "And why is this match more important than me?"

"It's not... it's... oh they're cheering! Are we winning?" Randhir asked, trying to push Sanyukta off.

Sanyukta, frustrated, pressed her lips against his, catching him by surprise.

"What are you -" he was saying, but Sanyukta slid her tongue into his mouth.

His tongue wrestled with hers, trying to push her tongue out of his mouth so he could continue to watch his match, but Sanyukta was stubborn. She wasn't letting him go.

Finally, he grabbed her hair and pulled gently. She moaned into his mouth and Randhir completely forgot about the match. He turned her over on the bed and started to take off her clothes while kissing her everywhere his lips had access to.

Sanyukta's fingers lost themselves in his hair as Randhir managed to remove their clothes.

"Will you give me your laundry?" she asked him softly as Randhir was making love to her.

He had her arms pinned down to her sides. He kissed her wrist lovingly.

"After this is done," he teased.

Sanyukta relaxed on the bed and smiled - even today, she could distract her stubborn husband from his cricket match... and even today, he continued to love her as preciously as he did before.

A few days later, Sanyukta was cleaning in Somya's room, when she found a note in the middle of her clothes. Somya and Raghav were at school and Randhir was at work. She unfolded the note and as she read it, her eyes went wide.

Dear Somya,

I love you. Will you be my girlfriend?

Sincerely,
Your lover

Sanyukta's mouth fell open. Her daughter was only twelve! How could people fall in love at this age?

She kept the letter with her and finished cleaning Somya's room. When her husband and kids came home that night, she watched Somya intently.

Somya was on her cellphone, smiling and texting her friends. Could it be that she said yes to this boy? She would need to have a serious talk with her daughter. This was not the age to fall in love.

Randhir noticed that something was off with Sanyukta, so after dinner, he pulled her into their room and closed the door.

"What's wrong?" he asked her.

"I think Somya has a boyfriend," Sanyukta answered.

"What?" Randhir yelled, sounding outraged.

"Shh, stay calm. Look at this note," she told him and gave him the note she found earlier.

Randhir read it with wide eyes.

"Who is this lover?" Randhir snapped.

"I don't know. I found it hidden inside her clothes... I think she hid it on purpose," Sanyukta admitted. "I'll speak to her."

"Find out who this boy is. We'll speak to his parents too," Randhir demanded.

"Let's just speak to her first," Sanyukta decided. "I'll talk to her tonight, okay?"

Randhir nodded.

She left their room and went back to doing her chores. Later that night, as Sanyukta was tucking Somya in bed, she hesitantly took out the note and showed her.

"What is this?" Sanyukta finally asked.

Somya's eyes went wide and she looked at her mom fearfully.

314
Somya looked up at her mom fearfully as Sanyukta showed her the love note with a stern expression on her face.

"M - mommy it's not w - what you think it is," Somya stammered.

"What is it then?" Sanyukta pressed on.

"T - Tanya wrote it as a joke," Somya whispered.

"Then why hide it? I found it between your clothes," Sanyukta probed further.

She was desperately hoping for what her daughter was saying to be true. Twelve was not the age to be getting into any love drama.

"I didn't mean to hide it," Somya mumbled. "I just left it in my clothes I guess and forgot to throw it out."

"You're telling me the truth?" Sanyukta asked sternly.

Somya nodded.

"I swear mommy. I don't have a boyfriend," Somya said. "And no boy in my class has told me they liked me."

"Do you like anyone?" Sanyukta asked, this time her voice soft.

"No," Somya said right away. "All the boys are annoying."

"If you ever like someone, tell me right away," Sanyukta ordered.

"Y - yes okay," Somya agreed, nodding.

"Good girl. Now go to sleep," Sanyukta said happily, caressing Somya's hair. "Good night."

She leaned towards her daughter and kissed her forehead.

"Good night mommy," Somya said.

After Sanyukta entered her own room and locked the door, she noticed that Randhir was sitting on the bed, like he was waiting for her come in.

"It's fine. Tanya wrote it as a joke," Sanyukta told Randhir.

"What? Who jokes about such things?" Randhir asked angrily.

"Randhir even we used to joke around a lot when we were young," Sanyukta told him. "Especially girls tease each other and joke around... it's normal."

Sanyukta sat next to him on the bed and held his shoulder lovingly.

Randhir placed his hand on top of hers.

"Just as long as she never gets a boyfriend," Randhir said loudly.

Sanyukta laughed.

"You're so cute," she said to her husband. "If your wife never made you her boyfriend, would you be married to her?"

"We're different!" Randhir said stubbornly. "She's my daughter."

"Don't worry, when the right time comes, we'll see what there is to do," Sanyukta told him softly and then rested her head on his shoulder. "By the way, I got my period... so I'm not pregnant."

"See, I told you," Randhir told her. "You worry for no reason."

"I wasn't worried!" she argued.

"Clearly," Randhir retorted, rolling his eyes.

Sanyukta smiled and wrapped her arms around him, hugging him.

Their family was still in their control right now, but things were going to soon spiral out of control as their children grew up and they grew older too.

315
"Raghu sixteen! I'm going to be sixteen!" Somya was screeching to her little brother Raghav in the dining room.

"So what?" Raghav asked, looking up from his homework. "I'm going to be nine soon."

Randhir and Sanyukta entered the room together, smiling. It had been almost four years since Sanyukta discovered the note in Somya's clothes, and they couldn't even understand how all these years flew by.

"Yeah but you have two months. My sweet sixteen is going to be grand!" Somya exclaimed. "Aaah two more weeks, I can't wait!"

Sanyukta and Randhir had planned a sweet sixteen birthday party for Somya in an elegant banquet hall. They had invited all of their friends and on top of that, Somya had practically invited her entire school.

"Somya, there's still two weeks," Sanyukta laughed.

"Yeah two weeks," Somya murmured, looking off into the distance dreamily. "Mommy can I try on my dress again? Please?"

"You've tried it on three times already!" Sanyukta exclaimed.

They had ordered Somya a special gown for her party which she was crazy about.

"I know... but... I just wanted to," Somya mumbled.

"Yeah of course," Randhir piped up.

"Yeah?" she asked enthusiastically.

"No! If you wear it so much the beads will fall off," Sanyukta argued.

"Let her, it's for her birthday," Randhir replied to Sanyukta.

"Randhir, no," Sanyukta rejected flatly.

"Mommy, daddy, can you tell Somya didi to shut up?" Raghav argued.

"Raghav!" Sanyukta scolded. "That's not a nice thing to say."

"Yeah Raghu, it's not nice," Somya huffed.

"But she's been talking about the dress for the last month! She's so annoying!" Raghav complained.

"Because it's a pretty dress!" Somya snapped. "Why don't you shut up?"

"Somya!" Sanyukta scolded.

"What? It's his fault!" Somya argued.

"You're older. Instead of teaching him good things, you're encouraging him to argue?" Sanyukta asked sternly.

"Yeah Somya didi!" Raghav said with an evil smirk.

"Okay Raghav," Randhir said, sitting on the chair next to Raghav. "Don't provoke your didi."

"Yeah," Somya replied, smiling slyly at her younger brother.

"Why do you two fight so much?" Sanyukta groaned. "Anyways, come with me Somya. We'll carefully try on your dress."

Somya nodded and with a victorious smile, followed Sanyukta to her room to try on the dress, leaving Randhir to take care of a whining Raghav at the dining table.

316
A few days later, Parth and Vidhushi dropped their daughter Shreya at the house, to play with Raghav. Somya was in her room, flipping through TV channels, when Raghav ran into the room with Shreya. On the TV screen was a condom advertisement.

She was about to change the channel when Raghav asked, "What is a condom Somya didi?"

Somya turned off the TV and was about to tell him to mind his own business when instead, a funny idea entered her mind and it was too hilarious that she couldn't resist.

"A condom means chocolate cake," Somya said, trying to control her laughter. "So if you ever want chocolate cake, you say I want a condom!"

She tried very hard to hide her smirk, but it was so funny that she burst out laughing.

"I want a condom!" Shreya told Raghav. "Will you bring me a condom?"

Raghav looked at Shreya and said, "Let me ask Gopal uncle!"

Somya called out, "Raghav no!" but it was too late, he had already run out of the room.

She got off her bed and groaned. Before Raghav started to use the word condom everywhere she had to stop him. Shreya followed Somya out of the room.

When they got downstairs, Raghav was running across the living room towards the kitchen, when Sanyukta called out, "Raghav where are you going?"

Sanyukta was sitting on the couch beside Randhir, both of them drinking tea.

"To ask Gopal uncle to make -"

"No!" Somya screamed, running into the living room, with a seven year old Shreya trailing behind her.

"Somya didi why are you so annoying?" Raghav asked, sounding mad. "I just want a condom!"

Sanyukta and Randhir both widened their eyes and Somya smacked her forehead with her hand.

"W - what did you just say?" Randhir stammered, trying to make sure he heard correctly.

"Condom," Raghav said again, "Me and Shreya want a condom!"
