But with his latest move, he has taken film marketing to a new level. Apparently, the director gave some 20-odd late night show tickets to his loyal paanwala, Karim, and asked him to distribute them to his other customers. Karim has been giving away free tickets for the weekend shows of Saawariya to his dedicated customers.
The paanwala's stall is on the junction of the Juhu circle, which turns towards Four Bungalows, where Sanjay lives. On Monday evening, when we spoke to him Karim said, "Sanjayji meri dukaan mein har roz aate hai… Now that his new film Saawariya is in the cinema halls, he gave me tickets and told me, "khud bhi picture dekho aur tumhari dukaan pe joh bhi aate hai unko bhi meri picture ki tickets do…"
Phokat mein phillum
The paanwala had tickets of Sunday and Monday nights shows to Sun City theatre, Vile Parle and to PVR cinema in Juhu. He offered the tickets to people coming to his shop. Karim adds, "Mein in tickets ke paise nahin le raha hoon, Sanjayji bole ki free mein dena logon ko…There were lot of takers for the Sunday night tickets but I still have some tickets to the Monday show, do you want them?"
Now everyone staying in Juhu and nearby areas who aren't getting tickets for Saawariya, and don't want to stand in the queue, can buy a paan and get an entry in to the theatre for free. Offer limited. Rush now!!!
| Gauhar's Diwali drama
| | The model had a panic attack, after being subjected to smoke fumes from firecrackers, and was hospitalised for five days
| | | emotional outburst: Nigaar and Gauhar Khan | This was a black Diwali for the Khan sisters Nigaar and Gauhar. On Diwali night, Gauhar suffered a severe panic attack, caused by smoke fumes from firecrackers. Gauhar panicked, and called her elder sister Nigaar who rushed to her sibling's house.
From bad to worse
Describing the events of that night, Nigaar says, "On Diwali night, Gauhar was at home at Vrinda Residency building in Yari Road.
She was trying to sleep but couldn't because of the loud crackers, which continued way after the 10pm deadline till 4 am! Gauhar stepped out and requested her neighbours to stop lighting the crackers as the smoke was suffocating her. But they refused and asked her to mind her own business. Gauhar then dialled the police emergency number. Someone on the other end took down the details but no one showed up to take action." Then she called Nigaar.
When Nigaar reached Gauhar's house, she realised her sister's condition was serious, "She couldn't breathe and was looking pale. I was worried and rushed her to a nursing home in Yari Road. But to our shock, there were people bursting crackers right outside the clinic. I called the police station and complained but nothing happened. We later shifted her to Sujoy Nursing Home in Juhu where she was diagnosed with pharyngitis as her condition wasn't improving."
Taking pleasure in pain
Gauhar who was discharged yesterday, after five days, is still traumatised. Nigaar plans to take action against the neighbours who refused to stop lighting crackers even though her sister was suffocating in front of them. "I love Diwali and both of us enjoy the festival. But how can someone take pleasure in a festival when your neighbour is suffering? Gauhar's still not able to eat anything and needs constant attention. I have gone through hell in the last few days, because of a bunch of irresponsible people who turned their backs on my sister." http://www.mid-day.com/hitlist/2007/november/166890.htm
