Yes Ramya, I have heard this story narration from Grand father. Lakshman had neither ate nor slept in those 14 years. Even Ram was not aware that his brother had not ate in that time. So after ram's coronation, Lakshman yawns and blinks after closing his eyes and immediately laughs. That's when everyone questions him for the reason and he reveals the truth. Ram doesn't believe him as he himself had given him a fruit (banana) when Shabari had given the fruits, so he claims Lakshman is lying. That's when Lakshman, slits his thigh and take out that fruit and eat it there (in the raj sabha) and breaks his fast.

I heard that Laxman didn't sleep for 14yrs but he stayed w/o eating. Poor soul yaar. Ram and Sita should have atleast asked him once. For me, this story projects Ram-Sita in a bad light. Hope its just the folk-tale. Thanks Jaya for confirming.

No Ramya, it is said that Lakshman could kill Indrajit only because he had won over his hunger and sleep for 14 long years (14 years is called a life time and even now the life sentence punishment is 14 years imprisonment)
