Chapter 23

Payal enters when Rahul Nikhil and Maanvi were talking about the whole punishment drama.

Rahul~ "...to yeh punishment... sirf ek drama tha?... tum aur payal milke meri aur maanvi ki taang kheech rahe the? Par kyun?" pausing as he was dizzy due to the effects of bhang.

Nikhil~ "Payal di ne kaha..." he couldn't finish the sentence.

Payal~ "Kyun ki, apni shaadi mein aapne to kisi ko shamil karne ki zaroorat nahi samjhi. Agar hum shamil hote, to humara haq hota apne bhai bhabhi ke saath games khelne ka, tease karne ka... these are all part of our culture to help in family bonding, and not just the bonding between the two who are getting married. Jo tab nahi wo haq ab leliya."

Rahul~ "Lekin iss tarah se pareshan karke..." he tried to deny the notion, but maanvi stopped him.

Maanvi~ "Rahul, Payal aur Nikhil bhi apni jagah par sahi hain. Dono families' mein rishtoon ko majboot karne ke liye saari rasmein aur riwaaz hote hain. Uske beech mein sab khel aur masti, rishtoon ko behtar banane ke liye hi hote hain. Tab unko mauka nahi mila to ab thoda khel liya to kya galat kiya? Bolo?"

Rahul~ "Maanvi... Tum bhi inn dono ki side le rahi ho?..." he was fainting due to all the bhang he drank.

Payal~ "We can all discuss this later. You two should take rest first."

Everyone in the room agreed. Nikhil helped rahul to change his holi color clothes and then helped him to get to the bed. Payal and Nikhil took their leave. Then maanvi went to freshen up and change her clothes as well. When she came out of bathroom, rahul was already fast asleep. She sat in front of mirror, brushed her mane, thinking about all past days when payal had been teasing them. Now it all made sense why payal was acting the way she did. A small smile curled up on her lips, payal was turning out to be newest best friend for maanvi. Maanvi lay down next to rahul to take rest before they both can visit her family at the hospital. Thinking about everything, last thought that came to her before she fell asleep was "Yeh kahan aa gaye hum..."

Soon the holi party was over and sabarwals saw through the see-off of their happy guests. Everyone retired to their room to freshen up, change the holi color cloths, and resume the rest of the daily duties. Nisha was curious where did her friend Avanti went as she didn't saw her during see off. She tried calling her but no response.

"Maybe I will check-up on her at her home after I freshen up." She thought to herself.

She soon freshened up, informed Shaleen that she is heading to avanti's home, and left. The only thing Nisha could think all the way was why Avanti would leave without informing. Maybe something happened with rahul. Had rahul told her off because of maanvi? In any case Avanti must be quite furious and like everyone says pound the iron when it is red hot'. What a perfect chance to provoke Avanti into doing something that can spoil rahul and maanvi's marriage.

Nisha arrives at Talwar residence. She was welcomed by Mrs. Talwar, who confirmed that Avanti came very furious from the party and has locked herself in her room. Nisha assures her and asks her permission to talk to Avanti. Nisha heads to her room and knocks on the door.

"Go away! Leave me alone!" came the reply from inside. Avanti was indeed very angry.

Nisha~ "Avanti, please open the door. It's me, Nisha. You left without a word, made me worried. Please let me in, I want to talk to you."

There were sound of footsteps, door lock clicked, and Avanti let Nisha inside.

Nisha~ "Kya hua Avanti, everything alright? Rahul ne kuch kaha kya?"

Avanti scoffed "Rahul se baat karne ka mauka milta tab to wo kuch kehta na. Jo ek mauka mila bhi to uske friends usse kheech kar le gaye."

Nisha~ "But I saw you going after him when he was going for rest after the whole performance."

Avanti~ "So she didn't tell you?"

Nisha~ "Who didn't tell me? Did maanvi did something?"

Avanti~ "Maanvi ko to mein phir bhi dekh leti. Par meri insult to tumhari sis-in-law ne ki. Pata nahi kahan se mere aur rahul ke beech mein aa gayi, aur uss par meri itni insult! Jab se maanvi rahul ki life mein aayi hai, har koi tumhare ghar mein meri insult karne ke naye bahane dhoondta rehta hai. Uss maanvi ko to mein chodoongi nahi! Mere saath jo bhi ho raha hai sab uski wajah se hai." Avanti was burning inside-out with anger.

Nisha fakes her support for Avanti and assures her that she will help her in her plans to saperate rahul and maanvi.

Maanvi wakes up with a feeling of little anxiousness. "Must be something I ate at the party that doesn't agree with me." She thought. She stood up, went in bathroom to wash her face. She came out and saw rahul still asleep. She gazed at the time; it was just past 4 pm.

"Should I wake him or go alone? Ma would like to have me and rahul both to come visit them as it is holi festival." Thinking this, she walks up to rahul and tries to wake him. "Rahul... rahul... wake up. We need to visit ma and baba at the hospital."

Rahul opened his eyes; he could tell he was having a little hangover. He remembered most of the party but all seemed quite hazy. It all felt like a dream. He rubbed his forehead and replied "In few more minutes..."

Maanvi had already asked chotu to bring some lemonade for rahul's hangover. She handed it to rahul telling him to drink it as it will help in recovering from the handover. Rahul sat up, drank it slowly, trying to remember the whole party and performance and everything.

He remembered that first he was romancing her and on next performance maanvi romanced him in front of everyone, how they danced together... He quickly put the glass aside, and grabbed maanvi's hand and pulled her towards himself. Maanvi fell right in his lap; her hands resting on his shoulders, his one hand still holding her hand, other hand around her supporting from the fall. They were barely inches away.

They share eye-lock, "sanam re" song playing in the background. Maanvi tried to stand up but he pulled her closer.

Maanvi~ "Rahul, ye kya kar rahe ho? Hume ma baba se milne janaa hai. Late honge to ma naraaz hongi."

Rahul kept staring in her eyes, trying to read what she feels so he can make out the true sense of all that happened during the performance.

Maanvi~ "Kuch bolo bhi rahul. Ya yoon hi dekhte rahoge?"

Rahul~ "Party mein... mujhe to bhang chadi thi, per tumhe kya hua tha jo tum sabke saamne..." he whispered slowly. There was no need to finish that sentence, the message that he was trying to convey was clear enough. He kept staring in her eyes, reading the emotions that surfaced when he said that.

Maanvi~ "Rahul, dekho hume ma baba se milne janaa hai. Hum late ho jayenge. Please, hum ye baat aa kar bhi kar sakte hain."

Her please' was so cute that rahul let her go. Maanvi picked out some clothes for him "Tum jaldi se change kar lo, main tumhara neeche intezaar kar rahi hoon."

Maanvi left the room; rahul quickly changed his cloths and reached down stairs. Together they left for hospital to meet maanvi's parents.

Shilpa was sitting next to upamanyu who was still comatose. Harsh has left just half an hour ago to get some rest and shilpa took over the turn of staying at hospital. Shilpa was reading a magazine about the article on new albums from sabarwals.

"...Three stars from the same family. They sabarwals have stayed un-available for any comment so far and fans have been starting to guess what this will mean in future for them. Will the famous rockstar Rahul Sabarwal perform with his wife Mrs Maanvi Sabarwal in the near future? Will the family be able to support both Rahul and his brother, or will they have a falling out as rivals?..."

Shilpa was deep in thoughts. She didn't realise when maanvi and rahul entered.

Maanvi~ "Ma... Kahan kho gayi?"

Shilpa closed the magazine "Kuch nahi beta, aise hi kuch soch rahi thi. Tum batao, aaj ki party kaisi rahi? News mein to sirf sabarwals ki party ke hi charche hain. News wale keh rahe the ki party holi ke liye aur rahul ke concert ke promotion dono ke liye thi."

Maanvi~ "Nahi ma, wo to papa ne personal gesture ke liye producers aur sponsorers ko invite kiya tha."

They talked some more about party, concert, album, upu's health, how everything is going at home, harsh and his work...

Rahul excuses himself to go talk to doctor about reports and progress of upu's health. A few minutes later, sujoy entered the room with a bouquet and sweets with wishes of holi.

Sujoy~ "Oh hi maanvi."

Maanvi~ "Hi sujoy." She remembered last time she overheard sujoy threatening someone on the phone.

Sujoy~ "I didn't know you still cared to come visit your parents. Afterall you married the person who put your father here."

Maanvi~ "Sujoy!... this is neither the time or the place. And who are you to say that rahul is guilty, police is investigating and we will know soon who is guilty and who is not." She wasn't going to take any crap about rahul from sujoy as she has experienced the true self of rahul. She had started to doubt sujoy's character after that phone conversation as there was something that she didnt knew about him.

Sujoy~ "Wow maanvi... tumhe ek album kya mil gayi, media mein, magazines mein tumhara rahul ki wajah se naam aa gaya, tum to uski side lene lag gayi ho. Kya hoga jab tumhare baba ko hosh ayega? Tumne socha ki agar unhone rahul ka naam liya to? Par tum to..."

Maanvi~ "Bas sujoy!" that was enough to get her to forget where she was. She continued "Rahul ne mere baba ko hospital pahauchaya, unki jaan bachayi. Aur tum... tumne kya kiya sujoy? Sab kuch dekh kar bhi tum mere baba ko sadak par ghayal chod kar aa gaye. Rahul ke bare mein tumhe kuch bhi kehne ka haq nahi hai. Meri family ki fikar agar sach mein hoti, to uss din tum mere baba ko ghayal halat mein kabhi nahi chodte. Aur to aur, aane ke baad bhi tumne kisi ko baba ke accident ke bare mein nahi bataya! Bolo sujoy, hai koi explanation?!" she was almost at the verge of yelling "Tum rahul ke upar baba ko maarne ki koshish ka ilzaam laga rahe ho. Wo rahul jisne humesha mera khayal rakha hai, meri family ka khayal rakha hai... khud se pehle dusroon ko importance di hai. Rahul mera pati hai, main usse tumse jyada jaanti hoon. Wo mere baba ko maarne ki koshish kabhi nahi kar sakta. Uske baare mein kuch bhi bolne se pehle yeh yaad rakhna sujoy, ki tum mere baba ko sadak par marne ke liye chod aaye the! Jiske baad, tumhe yahan par aane ka koi haq nahi hai. Chale jao sujoy! Main tumhe yahan par dubara nahi dekhna chahti! She pointed him the way out.

Sujoy was stunned by this massive blow. He never expected that maanvi would thrash him like this. No one would have expected that she could derive certainity like this purely from the facts that she learned from that day till now.

Sujoy was speechless. He turned around towards the door to leave; that's when everyone noticed rahul standing at the door. Rahul heard most of the conversation. Sujoy hated him for everything that has happended ever since but now he could not do or say anything that could turn maanvi against him. Therefore, he quietly left without making any more scenes.

Rahul was surprised. For all this time he was sure that maanvi suspected him for trying to murder her father, but after what he saw and heard today, it was clear that Maanvi has started to believe him. He stayed quite about it. Soon they took their leave from shilpa to head back home.

They climbed in the car and started to head home. Maanvi inquired "Rahul... tum chup-chap sab sun rahe the. Phir bhi kuch nahi kaha tumne. Kyun?"

Rahul~ "Maanvi, main kabhi bhi tumhe, ya tumhare family aur friends ko... ya kisi aur ko... koi nuksaan nahi pahauchaunga. Mujhe nahi maloom ki kyun tab tum meri baat ka vishwas nahi kar rahi thi. Main sirf yahi chahta tha ki tum mera bharosa karo, mera vishwas karo. Aaj jo tumne mere liye kiya, jo mere liye kaha, usse sun kar mujhe acha laga ki tum mera vishwas karti ho."

Maanvi~ "Maine sirf wahi kiya jo mujhe sahi laga. Tumne mere baba ki jaan bachayi hain rahul. Main nahi jaanti ki mere baba ko maarne ki koshish kisne ki, par mujhe yakin hai ki tum aisa kabhi nahi kar sakte. Jitna maine tumhe janaa aur samjah hai, tum bahaut ache insaan ho rahul. Aur mujhe khushi hai ki aaj main tumhari zindagi ka hissa hoon."

Rahul was truly happy as he knows now that whatever the misundertandings there were between them, time has made them come past it on their own without the need of someone else.
