Hi all,
Yesterday's episode was beautiful, heart-touching and if I may say so cinematic poetry.. but that is what I am not going to discuss. There were few things and elements within the show yesterday which I thought required a discussion:
a) When Nanu was explaining about his dead daughter as being the best of all his children, among the various reasons that he listed one was that his daughter, Priya used to think using her head rather her heart. Within the context of the situation, it might be a reasonable way to explain that his daughter was practical, pragmatic, a sensible and mature lady unlike her husband, Neeraj. But, what was most interesting is that in the day before yesterday's episode, we had Shravan mouthing that he listened to his heart and his dimaag was kharaab. And we know as viewers he did make a good decision. So, was this line by nau simply an inocuous one or it has more connotations? Which is right? Dil or dimaag? And what does it say about Shravan's own statement? I don't know why I felt that this statement of Nanu has a larger resonance in the context of Shravan and Sumo's relation.
b) I believe we have discussed so much about the walk down memory lane (borrowing Sammy's title phrase) that I believe most of us have not been cognizant of the fact that Sumo did not share Nanu's perception about her dad. If nanu considered his son-in-law as good for nothing, Sumo, on the other hand literally evoked a picture of a very understanding and lovable dad. Again whose perception is correct?
c) Related to this what I found interesting is in the earlier segment when Shravan was trying to figure out Khosla and Sumo's mother relation/equation, he was perceptive of that was being said about Sumo's parents yet I found a vulnerable side to him which wanted to reassure Sumo that all is right. Shravan yesterday was playing an astute lawyer rather than the Shravan we have witnessed before this episode. Neither resentful or one with hurt pride here was a man engaged to understand everyone's perception, readings and misreadings about the past. Good Direction by the CVs👏
d)But, when he was traversing the memory lane I would have wanted to see more of Shravan's responses, gestures. Sumo's engagement with the past was brilliantly depicted but SHravan was hardly there. Barring of course, the hug scene and the swing one. I loved the swing one more, there was a feel of companionship that simply could not be missed.
d) The next of course, we have spoken before about the house, its arrangement, layout remaining the same even probably for a period of 15-16 years. If that was a mistake on the part of CVs, well, this is a first and a big blooper. But, what if they wanted to underline something else? To show the passage of time and the role of memory as connected with time, loss, pain one can portray it more so by showing it through various changes or through decay. (Finest examples being Wordsworth's Tintern Abbey, Prelude and Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse). Sumo could still have explained to Shravan that this is how she used to live, point out those places which had been changed or destroyed over the years. Why did the makers insist on the house and its content having remained the same?
e) Who bought the house? Was it Khosla or someone else? And did the person who bought the house consciously tried to maintain it as it had been during Sumo's parents' lifetime? And did this some other person sell this house to Khosla in the intervening years? And so Khosla found the papers quite recently (one which would answer Sumo's query as to why he didn't turn up in the last 18 years).
f) Related to this is a blooper (definitely a blooper in this case), as to why Shravan being such a shrewd layer fail to find out beforehand as to who had bought the house in the auction?
g) One of the best scenes yesterday, was how like an investigative lawyer, Shravan was simply gauging, understanding comprehending Sumo's past. It is as if he trusts no one but Sumo in this regard peeling off the layers which has contained, shaped the woman she is.
I would request you all to respond to these observations and to postulate your own😛

Very nice observations. I would like to discuss about all of them, but with a looming work related deadline, I may be able to write back sometime next week only. I really loved your writeup.
The CVs have not disappointed till date and I hope they try to resolve this blooper of empty, unchanged house.

And what does it say about Shravan's own statement? I don't know why I felt that this statement of Nanu has a larger resonance in the context of Shravan and Sumo's relation.

actually in some situations we have to use our brain lets say for economical situations. and at times our heart for our family related issues and all. both are right but they need to be used seeing the situations. if shravan listened to his dimaag then today the scenario would have been different. nanu might have got an attack. the house would have been sold. sumo would have hated shravan for rest of her life. and it ll make shravan a selfish person which he is not. shravan listened to his heart and everything is becoming right now. he listened to his dimaag when he knew varun ll be cheated by the company but as his father was so emotional regarding family. he chose his heart for his father. even in the case of prom night he used his dimaag instead of dil. coz it was necessary to make suman taste her own medicine. shravan is very practical in life and he decides in what situation which one to use

b) I believe we have discussed so much about the walk down memory lane (borrowing Sammy's title phrase) that I believe most of us have not been cognizant of the fact that Sumo did not share Nanu's perception about her dad. If nanu considered his son-in-law as good for nothing, Sumo, on the other hand literally evoked a picture of a very understanding and lovable dad. Again whose perception is correct?

again both are right from their view point. suman who lost her parents at a very tender age. who was devoid of parents love. to a daughter a father is her first love and hero. she hero worshipped him as she saw him working hard. giving her toffees when he returned. to suman her father was superman coz as a father he fulfilled his duty so suman never felt bitterness from his side. but nanu as a father is also right. a father always wants her daughter to be happy. but he feels as neeraj couldnot give her a good life nanu felt he failed as a father. he couldnot give her a daughter a right husband. she was always busy making her husband's business better. taking loans and supporting him. amidst all this priya lost her happiness. as a father he thinks due to all these hardships which was brought by neeraj he lost priya. every father wants their daughter to live like a queen. his father couldnot see that happening.

c) Related to this what I found interesting is in the earlier segment when Shravan was trying to figure out Khosla and Sumo's mother relation/equation, he was perceptive of that was being said about Sumo's parents yet I found a vulnerable side to him which wanted to reassure Sumo that all is right. Shravan yesterday was playing an astute lawyer rather than the Shravan we have witnessed before this episode. Neither resentful or one with hurt pride here was a man engaged to understand everyone's perception, readings and misreadings about the past. Good Direction by the CVs👏

as a i said shravan is a practical person.he knows in which situation what he have to do and say

d)But, when he was traversing the memory lane I would have wanted to see more of Shravan's responses, gestures. Sumo's engagement with the past was brilliantly depicted but SHravan was hardly there. Barring of course, the hug scene and the swing one. I loved the swing one more, there was a feel of companionship that simply could not be missed.

shravan was silent because he was trying to see the suman he never saw. he always saw suman 10years back as bossy selfish girl. just for once he saw her emotional side durng jewelry scene. he only knows that but yesterday he saw that baby suman who was craving for her parents searching everywhere. he saw how incomplete she was. he wanted suman to vent out everything coz he knows in situations like that no words can cure it only staying by her side can. moreover it was sumancentric episode. where suman was chering her childhood memories and telling shrvan her story which she never told anyone and shravan was just a listener a perceiver. yesterday he was the suman not the sumo which was lost in that house

d) The next of course, we have spoken before about the house, its arrangement, layout remaining the same even probably for a period of 15-16 years. Why did the makers insist on the house and its content having remained the same?

things were same because no one stayed there.
actually nanu said that laindar ne nilam kar diya ghar. so i guess the case for it is still on so no one stays there. only a guard is there. i guess today we ll get to know whether khosla bought the house or not. today's epi hopefully answer many things too. and i dont think cvs ll do such a big blooper

e) Who bought the house? Was it Khosla or someone else? And did the person who bought the house consciously tried to maintain it as it had been during Sumo's parents' lifetime? And did this some other person sell this house to Khosla in the intervening years? And so Khosla found the papers quite recently (one which would answer Sumo's query as to why he didn't turn up in the last 18 years).

ghar ko nilam kiya giya tha so my guess khosla bought the house recently and got the papers. but as he didnot stay there things were same. waiting for today's episode for those answers

f) Related to this is a blooper (definitely a blooper in this case), as to why Shravan being such a shrewd layer fail to find out beforehand as to who had bought the house in the auction?

i guess because shravan got to know about the house yesterday only. coz he was little taken back when he heard they had a house so he asked suman to take him and he kept asking her whether she remembers the house

g) One of the best scenes yesterday, was how like an investigative lawyer, Shravan was simply gauging, understanding comprehending Sumo's past. It is as if he trusts no one but Sumo in this regard peeling off the layers which has contained, shaped the woman she is.

totally yes. he trusts her and wanted her view point coz he got to know nanu never loved his son in law. and he was not well also to tell him about the house moreover nanu was sure the papers are with him but didnot check the papers. and baki to sab kamchor hai. so yea suman would have been the best for this as he earlier saw how attached she is with jewellry. so definately she ll know about house and everything, he wanted her point of view and he has got to know sabka point of view. only her was left
I would request you all to respond to these observations and to postulate your own😛

Hi Indrani,,

Lovely observations ...

Will try to put across my POV .. in a random manner ...

The big one .. how did the house remain the same ... well even if someone wanted to preserve the memory .. this was still a blooper .. coz wud u want to maintain a small child's bicycle as well ... the indian Telly serial mind says its a blooper .. but the thinking mind says ... a full episode dedicated to revisit the old .. had to be significant ...

The khosla angle was clearly explained from the first frame .. when Shravan revisits Khosla dialog ...about using nefarious means to get his gains ... so he already smelled the rat ... & when he spoke to Nanaji .. his mind was clear ... i totally agree with u .. the CV's hit this one out of the park .. they showed the character SHRAVAN perfectly .. the sauve, shrewd, astute lawyer .. who would win at any cost ...

Khosla makes a claim after 18 years as SUMO pointed out .. so its not rocket science to deduce that Khosla just stumbled on to the papers ... Now heres a thot ... random totally .. when Shravan & Sumo reach the place there are workers asking for payment from the watchman ... but they do not name the boss ... & the moment Khosla walks (as per precap) he asks ... Did someone come over ??? well if u think in this thot .. it sort of makes u wonder BLOOPER ... or NAA .. deliberate 😉

U made a point on Shravan .. his pov ...was not articulated at all ... but to me the episode was about a boy who understood the pain that his best friend was going thru .. a young girl who survived life's tragedies with the memories of her past .. a young girl alone ... with just her memories .. which were being murdered in front of him in that very house ...

There is a very subtle nuance u need to catch here ... when he calls Suman in the first scene .. he is brusque .. he doesnt even say her name ... & see the softness in his voice the moment he asks her to take him to her old home ..he even calls her SUMO ...

He knows for this girl to go on .. fight life everyday .. her shrine of memories must be kept intact .. i felt it was a major catharsis moment for Sumo .. initiated by Shravan ... to me that was simply Brilliant by the writer ... if u note he asks her ... Do u remember ur old home .. gently nudging her to recreate the good times & keep the faith ...

IMHO ... if the maker had shown more of Shravan reactions it wud have killed the scene this was SUMO's catharsis scene ... it had to be about her .. if u see there is a shot .. she is looking into the mirror & seeing her past ... but the image in the mirror is SHravan .. the man standing quietly by ... but like before she did not SEE HIM .. she saw something else .. not because of a deliberate reason .. but coz she was carrying the weight of her past ... 😉😳 oops did i give out a bit much

That was truly a moment of sheer brilliance by the maker ..
Also he goes to hug her ... but stops himself .. offers only a hand on the head ... he had to be the friend first it was not about him .. it was about her .. there was no better way for the maker to articulate that than this ...

This track is primarily about SUMO .. i know we all want to see love blossom .. but how can love blossom between friends until friendship is reestablished ...
Shravan from the day he has come back has leveled one accusation constantly on Sumo .. SELFISH .. until that label is torn to shreds v aint gonna c much action ...

I love posts which make me think .. which make me want to write & today ur post did just that .. wonderfully valid points .. thank u for nudging me out of inertia ... hope this one initiates a meaningful discussion 😳

Hey Indrani! Nice post and observations...

EDKV is a simple story. But the people in this story is not simple, but they are real. We all see what we really want to see. Be it when we crib about our parents being unjust to our friends after a quarel or Shravan viewing Sumo as an aggressive person. These are all perceptions, ours, Sumo's, Shravans etc. I would not say Nanu's perception is unclouded. Here is Mami blaming Priya and Nanu blaming Neeraj and Sumo agrees with neither's views. I would definitely think of Nanu's views to be as a father who loves his daughter a lot and sees no fault in her. This is possible too as parents often look past a child's drawbacks. In that sense even if Priya is at fault Nanu would rather look the other side and blame her husband. This does happen at most households... usually to the DIL but can happen to the SIL too! So it is not that any one perception is correct or incorrect but, rather a combination of the perceptions in various proportions would make the person what he / she is.0
No human being can do everything only with Dil or Dimag. It is a combination of both and situations. Some use their brain more than their heart while others dont. Shravan is a very emotional person even though he pretends otherwise. Sumo shows her emotion in the open but that also makes her very practical as she is not afraid of her emotions. But when it comes to the family both of them use their heart more than the head. They use their brain in their profession and they would need to too.

Nanu;s statement stuck with me too... I have a feeling that Sumo at some point intentionally hurts Shravan to get him to move forward in life and spread his wings, come back and decide if he really wants to start where he left off. May be she was being cruel to be kind.

What could Shravan have done when Sumo was sooo moved by her memories. Here is a person who does not want to get his heart involved with Sumo. But try as he may that is becoming difficult by each passing day. If you noticed, in yesterday's episode, Shra was actually the old Shravan. He was baring himself more and more to Sumo. Right from the swing to the hug where he wants to fully hug her but refrains and keeps it at the friend zone by patting her hair. Is he again trying to hide? I think yes... I see this becoming a problem for them.

The house being the same is a very glaring mistake. I think the cvs left it that way for a reason. We would know that soon.

Inspite of what has happened in the past. Shravan respects and loves both the past and present sumo. The same way Sumo looks past the arrogant Shravan v2 that has come back from London. The one incident that caused the fall out may be irreparable but it can be set aside and they can move forward till they reach a place in the future where they can look back and laugh at the same incident without getting hurt because there is so much happiness that they have had at all other times that there is no reason for these incidents to hurt anymore.

That, was a lengthy post... hope I have addressed all your points.

My observations :

  1. Not able to believe the way in which Shravan became too friendly with Suman in the 6th April episode. Holding hand and going through the papers together is understandable. But having normal conversations with her and that strange smile he gave her - am not able to get that out of my mind
  2. Probably he feels it is his duty to save the house. But he might be back to the "not so friendly" Shravan after that
  3. Dimag vs Dil since this came up twice - there must be some connection
  4. I am not very sure whether Suman's Dad is no more. Maybe he kept it as it is. Only a person with attachment can keep the house as it is. Spic and span. Khosla will never do that. Maybe Khosla is just a front. It is the father who wants Nanaji's house back to settle some old scores. This is my Quantico brain talking 😆
  5. Suman moving away from the swing when Shravan goes near and finally she going to Shravan on her own - maybe symbolic of the future.
  6. How come the young Suman kept all this childhood issues from her best friend ? Was he the one who was selfish and relying on her all the time for his own problems during school days ?
  7. All characters are real - which means grey - upto now. So I guess Nanaji is also not completely correct about his daughter and son in law

Many more points but maybe for next week

Nice post. I am keen to bring one important point in this discussion. How does Khosla know Varun? :)
Did Varun or Ramnath buy the house during auction and did Varun find the old papers and take loan fudging Suman's mother's signature? Too far fetched, I guess but the connection between Khosla and Varun has to be explained.

The house being retained as it is was unbelievable. So, there could also be a new entrant here who may ask Suman's hand in marriage in exchange for the house papers. Khosla may only be managing things on his behalf!

@Danseuse, that is very much possible. Looks like Khosla is the guy with whom Varun signed the contract. Which would mean that if Khosla pulls the string Ramnath would be forced to support varun to keep his family together.
Need to see what Shravan does here...
