Next Friday will once again see an open week, just like the week prior to the release of the two biggies, SAAWARIYA and OM SHANTI OM. And that was decided a long time back. The reason is very simple - No maker wants to face the twin blast of the Sanjay Bhansali and Farah Khan directed films, a week before or a week later!

Coming to the initial outcome of the first 'Diwali' release, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ranbir, Sonam, Salman (special appearance) and Rani starrer, SAAWARIYA, the aesthetically shot movie commenced on a good start at most multiplexes/cineplexes, and a good to fair start at the single screens. The weekend run proved bountiful but Monday onwards the collections started falling. While the fall was not alarming at the multiplexes / cineplexes, it was quite heavy at the single screens. But overall, thanks to the weekend, the first week collections are going to be good. In the Overseas too, SAAWARIYA was impressive in the US with $542,192 but fair in the UK grossing just $336,437.

The other 'Diwali' release, Farah Khan's Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika, Arjun and Shreyas starrer OM SHANTI OM embarked on a bumper start, uniformly across the multiplexes / cineplexes and single screens. Not only was the weekend extra-ordinary, even the Monday onwards run was very impressive, seeing a bare 10-15 percent fall. The first week collections are going to be one of the best ever in India. In the Overseas, OM SHANTI reset US weekend (Bollywood) record by grossing an astonishing $1,764,131 and was extra-ordinary in the UK with $1,084,316. It is obvious that OM SHANTI OM is already a hit in the Overseas, based just on its weekend run across the major markets.

Moving on to the previous releases, Imtiaz Ali's Shahid-Kareena starrer JAB WE MET continued its good run, even in the second week, both in India and the UK. During the week JAB WE MET collected 1.38 crores from Bombay, 27.85 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 90 lakhs from Delhi city, 14.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 9.35 lakhs from Faridabad, 20.20 lakhs from Noida, 1.05 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 6.45 lakhs from Kaushambi, 13 lakhs from Lucknow, 3.70 lakhs from Kanpur, 11.15 lakhs from Nagpur, 11 lakhs from Indore, 15 lakhs from Jaipur, 1.15 lakhs from Guwahati, 20 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1 lakh from Vijaywada and 2.15 lakhs from Aurangabad. The movie added another 9.25 crores for a two week all-India total of 21 crores. Given it?s under 10 crore budget and reasonable selling prices, JAB WE MET is a clean hit in India, barring parts of South. With nearly 800,000 $, JAB WE MET is a surprising success in the UK, especially in view of the costs involved.

The movie that released with JAB WE MET, Anurag Kashyap's John, Ayesha starrer NO SMOKING crashed further in the second week. With barely 25 lakhs, NO SMOKING has a two week all-India total of just 2.25 crores and is one of the year's biggest trade disasters.

Moving to the earlier releases, Yash Raj's Jaya, Rani, Konkona, Kunal and Abhishek (extended special appearance) starrer, LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG. The Pradeep Sarkar directed movie is on its way out of the theaters. The film collected 10 lakhs from Bombay, 3.15 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3.20 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.75 lakhs from Lucknow and 1 lakh from Noida. During the week, LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG collected another 55 lakhs, for a four week all-India total of nearly 19 crores. The movie has flopped in India. In the Overseas, the movie is doing hit business in the UK, grossing $1,439,542 but is comparatively quite ordinary in the US with $675,102.

The movie added another 3.75 crores during it latest outing, for a four week all-India total of 51.25 crores. BHOOL BHULAIYAA is a superhit in India. The movie is also a good hit in the Overseas with $1,374,552 from UK and $1,097,797 from the US.
