Really sorry for the delay. I was out yesterday. From tomorrow onwards will try to post on time.
Please note that I will just highlight and write my analysis of some scenes/characters that caught my attention, without considering the sequence in which they were shown. As such readers will understand this thread better only after they have watched the episode or read a detailed WU.
So, lets start:
Tukde tukde wali bhasha:
That scene was really significant, in that, it brought forward one of the key differences between theatre/stage and tv/films. Especially, the way they operate. In stage or theatre, it is a live performance - there are no retakes n no breaks. So the dance/dialogues/actions have to be memorized as a whole. Kalyani, who had just seen the operations at Rang Sangeet, naturally thought that that way the only way film will be shot.
The director, I feel, changed his style and opted to shoot the complete scene in a single long take only as a challenge to Kalyani. Needless to say, he was impressed.
Different reaction to the same compliment:
Both girls got the same compliment: you are like your father.
To Kalyani, it came as a surprise and the way she (Deepti Naval) still has that sparkle in her eyes thinking of it and that calm satisfaction shows the depth of her happiness at that compliment even today.
Ketki. the bubbly, on the other hand, was all euphoric and that euphoria contains even today. A significant dialogue by Zarina Wahab here.. she told me what I already knew.. Do we see confidence there? or is it simply over confidence?
Kalyani being humble at heart, that compliment takes her by surprise and it means a lot to her. Whereas, Ketki knows her worth, so to say, and knows she's better than others (her dialogues earlier) hence although she still remembers that compliment, she reiterates that she already knew.
Also different are their reactions.. on is silently and calmly soaking in the best compliment she ever got while the other is dancing around, laughing and constantly grinning from ear to ear.
As an aside, this portion reminded me of Jane n Lizzy of Pride and Prejudice. As Lizzy once said to Jane in a lighter vein, "compliments always take you by surprise, me never!" or spmething to that effect.. Also in her letter to her aunt, where she acknowledges her engagement to darcy, she jokingly says something like, "Jane only smiles. while I laugh" - the different reactions here too.
Some other points worth mentioning:
- Devika being harassed - It is a sad fact that Indian women haven't been safe outside their house (sometimes even in their own house), since times immortal (Ravan's abductuction of Sita, Draupadi's vastraharan). Even today, the timeshave changed for women (Supposedly) but news channels keep blaring with news of crimes against women every day. How can India talk of progress when half its population lives in fear? (yes, women live in constant fear of crime against them, don't we? Isnt that a woman's greatest fear?) Why cant indian women be safe? why cant we have laws that have such severe punishments and the burden of proof on the accused so that these serve as deterrents?
- Aaji's dance - A good one that. it was a kind of light moment yet it made me think. Rajaran dint know his mother is such a good dancer. Isnt that true of most children? they see their mothers as simply mothers. I'm sure that most of us don't know the talents our mothers have. Isnt that a feat n an indications of the sacrifices our mothers make for us? they get so engrossed in motherhood that they forget themselves and their talents
