Hey guys just got back from a showing of Om Shanti Om here in Vancouver. First thing first I was shocked to see such a good turnout, especially in a silvercity theatre, about 90 percent capacity, while it seemed Saawariya was playing to an empty house.
The movie is great, especially the first half. I went to the movie thinking I would like the second half way better, however the first half is real good, especially all the actor references as well as duplicates for manoj kumar, govinda , dharmendra and rajesh khanna. The second half is good too, especially the song of all songs dewangi. awesome to see all the actors in it. though at times it seemed there were too many actors just quickly running hrough, not as much one to one time , but still awesome.

Shah rukh and deepika using lines from Maine pyar kiya(in one scene shah rukh says to deepika, dosti main no sorrys no thank you, she asks if thats a dialogue from a film, he replies not yet(it being 1977) they then show a young looking sooraj bharjatya writing that line in a diary, so he could use it later.
a duplicate govinda pretending be the real one is called a struggler by shah rukh and told to change his name from govinda ahuja to just plain govinda
the entire filmfare sequence, especially akshays reaction to losing the award to OM
dewangi song: dharmendra gets a special mention awesome to see him.Then the end of the song with arjun showing up at shah rukhs reaction to that.
Performance wise, not much is needed, but shah rukh does the usual and is great at it, no one else could have done this role and made it as close to believable as shah rukh. Arjun is good, but doesnt get enough screen time. Sheras is good. Kiron Kher is alright. The real show stealer is by far Deepika, her acting is decent, but my god is she hot, the prettiest face in the history of indian cinema. Just pure beauty. WOW
THe movie does have flaws, the biggest being the transition of om in the second half from cocky actor to realizing who he is way too rushed, just out of nowhere he remembers, could have been handled better. Even the reaction of kiron kher and sheras is kind of wierd and confusing, more back story was needed to develop when they first see the new om and how there reaction is. Second of all when we see Shanti again in the second, shah rukhs reaction is way to casual, not a big reaction, as if he was expecting it and waiting for it. Third Shah rukhs father in the second half is the guy who takes the dying shah rukh in the first half to the hospital, so doesnt he wonder why his newborn eventually turns out to look just like that guy. I didnt like the fact that the second deepika is not really a reincarnation, but just a duplicate. THe ending with the ghost is kinda stupid. the point of the story was to show one life time is not enough, so shouldnt they end up together or atleast love each other at all, it was hard enough digesting the initial thing of her being arjuns wife but she never loved him and is never born again. he just ends up with a look alike, so why was he reborn,
I dont want to make it look like i didnt enjoy it cause i did, I think its awesome, but the problem i had it could have been so much better. It will still be a huge blockbuster hit. biggest hit of the year
