Today Guru Vashisht said 'Niyati ko koi Nahi Badal Sakta'. Honestly I'm too inexperienced to tell if life is predestined or our actions make our destiny. This question has intrigued me since I was a child, I have yet not found the answer.
In Vedic astrology it is said that 'Bhavishya dekhne ka adhikaar kisi ko Nahi hota', I was reminded of this while recently watching the show. Here it is shown that Manthara was told that she will be thrown out of the palace and she decided to change her fate. The irony of the situation is that whatever she did to change her fate lead her to the same fate. We have many stories in Indian mythology about the people who tried to alter their destiny yet their actions lead them to the same destiny. But we also have various examples of people who changed the course of their lives by sheer hard work and determination.

So what is the role of karma if everything is destined ? What is role of destiny if only Karma shapes our life ? If we look back in our lives we'll see that every thing we did, every decision we took lead us to where we are today. So we took those decisions because we were destined to be where we are today or it was because of those decisions that we ended up where we are today ? Bhagya karma kerwata hai ya ka karma se bhagya nishit hota hai ? It is said that if something is destined all your actions will lead towards that destiny but the question arises if it is destined then what is role of Karma ? When we take major decisions of our lives how much are we influenced by our free will and how much by destiny ?

What a deep and well thought lut topic.
Will try to add more later but for now..

Our destiny is based on both our actions as well as karma. Karma would lead the way while our actions would either add on or lesson the effect of karma based on what we do.
Our past karma and it's effects are certainly not under control. But blaming everything on our past karma alone is not right.

Btw, the one way Manthara could have changed her destiny was by changing her current course of action which was in her control. She chose not to and confirmed to her destiny.

That is the thing, Mantha tried changing her destiny. So far she was concerned she made sure that Bharat gets the throne which will secure her place in the palace. She acted according to her understanding of things ironically her actions lead her to same end which she was trying to avoid.

For eg we are told something horrible is about to happen to us, we will try everything in our hand to avoid the inevitable. But we will act only according to our understanding and knowledge of things.

Yes It was said our actions will lessen or add to the effects of things but here is my question. For example you are destined to come out with flying colours in the exam you are about to take. So in case you work very hard you score 95% but even if you don't work so hard and since you are destined to score good marks you get say 90%.
So how do you know that you worked hard and that's why you got 95% or because you were destined go get 95% and that's why you worked so hard. Same goes for 90%, how do you know you scored 90% because you didn't work that hard or because you were destined to get 90% and that's why you didn't study hard.

Manthara's current actions were inspite of her knowledge. Manthara has never been mistreated by Ram or Sita. She has never seen Ram ever favoring one mother over the other. But her current actions are going to be inspite of this knowledge.
Manthara assumed her destiny's course based on her own prejudices. She created her own karma.

That is exactly what Ramayan describes. Shri Ram is given numerous opportunities to choose to go back to rule without exile. He chose what was right based on the truth. Manthara chose to follow her lies that led to her destiny.

And this brings me back to same question. Manthara was blind to Ram's goodness because she was destined to be kicked out of palace or because she was blind to his goodness resulted in her being thrown out ?

I have no intentions to drive you crazy 😆

you should read the books by Dr Michael Newton like Journey of souls and Dr Brian Weiss books on past life and reincarnation. Dr Newtons book talks about the regressions he did with people about what happens after we die, how we are allowed to pick our lives with just an outline shown to us, and how it's our own actions that decides which way our life will go from there. Dr Brian Weiss book Same soul many bodies also gives examples of how that works.

While our destiny is already written, our actions have the power to change the course and the future. So basically destiny is not written in stone.

As far as Astrology is concerned our Destiny is mainly divided in 3 groups.
1) Dradh prarabdha- un changable destiny. Approximately 30 to 40% of our destiny is of karmas, that can not be changed. They are result of our past Karmas, carried foreword from past lives.
2) Almost 30% of karmas are such, that can be changed with hard work, depending on +ve or -ve course of action one choses.
3) Remaining 30%, destiny allows you to create one's karma. There is a freedom of choosing whatever one wants to do.
In 2nd & 3rd group, one's family, surrounding, friends & many other factors play important role. Thought pattern is very important here.

Hope this helps in finding some answers. 😊

I know about this changeable and non changeable destiny as per astrology but all the three divisions of karma and their influence on destiny is not as simple as it sounds.
