Bollywood comes to turkey
Turkey aims to cash in on the glitz and glamour of Bollywood to showcase the country as an attractive tourist destination to Indian visitors.
The Turkish ministry of culture and tourism has paid for eight episodes of popular Indian soap, Kasauti Zindagi to be shot in Istanbul, to promote the city to Indian tourists.
Last year, the Turkish culture and tourism minister Atilla Koc, went to Mumbai - the epicentre of the Bollywood film industry - and to New Delhi, to hold talks on how to draw Indian tourists to Turkey, the only country to straddle both Europe and Asia.
Bollywood director Apoorva Lakhia, whose Shootout at Lokhandwala was a smash hit, is also scheduled to shoot part of his new film, Mission Istanbul, in the Turkish capital.
Praveen Verma, the Indian consul general in Istanbul told IANS: "My job is to promote Turkish tourists to India. For that we need awareness and awareness spreads through people-to-people contact."
