'I love Sonam to death'
Ranbir Kapoor comments on mentor Sanjay Leela Bhansali & his close bond with his 'Saawariya' co-star
On the big break
"I was offered many films while I was in America. I saw 'Devdas' during that time and instantly became Sanjayji's (Bhansali) fan. I set an agenda for myself that I would assist Sanjayji and learn, during which he'd also notice me and cast me in his film eventually. The experience I've gained working with Sanjayji is like having worked in 10 films."
On rating himself
"I'm critical about my performance. I've a long way to go. I would give myself a 6/10. Once while on my way for a song shoot, I was nervous. So I messaged dad (Rishi Kapoor). He replied, 'What are you nervous about? You're a Kapoor. Just do it with passion and have fun'. That boosted my confidence."
On guru Sanjay
"Sanjayji has taught me so much. So even if he yelled at me, it's okay. He has all the right to shout at me and Sonam (Kapoor, co-star). He's used so many tools to bring us into the frame of mind of the characters. For me Sanjay's work is beyond ratings. You cannot rate your guru. He's like my godfather. If your guru pays you a compliment, it's hard to digest."
On being a Kapoor
"There is a lot of responsibility on me being a Kapoor. I was born with a legacy and have to take it forward."
On being close to Sonam
"We have been childhood friends. I love her to death and she loves me to death too."
