The Past - The First Meeting Maasa I was like any other girl.. Taking life as it came. I never considered myself beautiful... But he made me feel beautiful and loved.
I still remember the first time I met him. It had been a week since my junior college had started . My parents had sent me to an out of town hostel which was good in academics and I was always above average in my studies. This hostel was home to many royal kids. But there was no distinction as emphasis was on education.
That day being a Friday was the monthly recreation day. That day the planned activity was movie time. Sau my childhood friend was not feeling well so we both skipped it. She was fast asleep and I was tossing and turning and finally decided to go the library to read a book. The good thing @ this hostel was that the library was open 24/7 and I was a book-o-holic.
I found a book I wanted to read and had just sat on my chair when someone called me. "Excuse me, can u tell me where the boys dormitory is? And before I could turn to put a face to that voice, the lights went out.
"What was that?" Said the voice again.
"Oh don't worry, this has been happening from the last 1 week, some kind of electricity issues in the building, no worries I came prepared." Knowing this issue, I had come prepared with a candle and matchstick. As soon as Ajabde lit it, the face asking her questions became visible. Standing in front of her was a very handsome boy ..
As soon as the light shone... His eyes bore into the most mesmerizing almond shaped eyes he had ever seen. And he forgot what question he had. She waved a hand across his face making the flame flicker and both of them put their palms to protect the flame from going out.
"Ahh.. Were u looking for directions? Ajabde broke the awkward silence which had engulfed the room.
"Oh yes.. Can U please tell me the direction to the boys dormitory."
"Sure. Let me show you." And with the light from the candle, he followed her.
"So you are new here?"
"Oh yes. Just got to town and straight here. By the way my name is Pratap Singh." Saying this he extended his hand.
"Nice to meet you Mr. Pratap Singh". He noted the chuckle in her voice. "And you are?"
"I came here 2 weeks back and yes u have missed a weeks study hours and last but not the least I am Ajabde" she replied joining his hand in the hand shake.
His quizzical expression with one raised eyebrow annoyed her."Ajabde..."
"Yeah I know.. Everyone thinks it's a wierd name but for your kind information my name means the one with a unique soul.. That's me Ajabde"
"Oh sorry did I hit a raw nerve..I actually like the sound of ur name. It's different but I like it.. Now let's see if the actual person is as unique as the name?" He smiled mischievously earning a fiery look with those expressive eyes which seemed to be pulling him towards her.
"Hey no bad feelings."
"Hmm. Here you are.. U just cross this bridge and there stands ur dorm."
"Thank you. By the way "Friends"?"
"We just met?"
"So.. Is there a rule that u can't be friends at the first meeting itself? And anyways I don't know anyone here yet. My friend is supposed to join me in a day or two. So what say. Let's shake hands on it."
"Hmmm ok. Friends it is".
"C u tomm Ajab"
"It's Ajabde..."
"But I like Ajab more ..." He twinkled his eyes and proceeded towards his dorm. As she turned to go towards her dorm, the lights came on.. And she turned to see the retreating figure if she could catch a proper look at her new friend. But he was on his way so she carried on her way that instant he looked back to see her .. Ajab..the first girl whom he had felt comfortable with.. Maybe it was the darkness.. But he actually asked her to be his friend... Him.. Who did not talk too much to girls coz he felt all were after his fame and fortune... But this girl was different.. He just felt it in his heart.. And his Maasa had always told him to follow his heart...
Till tomm when we meet again...
