Hi all... I am rather new to this forum. Loved how some very nice ramayana stories from different part of our land are shared here.

And to add to this I want to share about a poem written by ONV sir in malayalam, today of all days since the great poet passed away today... a loss to whole of Malayalam and Indian literature...

The poem called Sarayuvilekku .. or Into Sarayu.

Its lord rama asking the pure river to take in him too to its depths...as he cant see anything in nature but his lost sita, the same sita who he abandoned in dark forest has now abandoned him forvever...she had gone back to the womb of her mother standing right there .. down and down...not heading to my sorrowful request to comeback...
They call me the symbol of goodness and kindness... and each time I hear this my heart burns in fire because it can only remember my sita's tears and her face full of pain... The same sita, who in a heart beat decided to come with me to share my hardship is forest, and then some day I left her is that same dark forest ...a million questions pricking like thorns, asking me... no enemy's arrow couldnt compare to this... Oh beloved Sarayu, please take me to you...

The poem goes on about how more tormented he is with his decisions and losing Sita... It is beyond beautiful(i am so bad that I should stop my attempt to translate anymore :P )... never before had I ever thought of how Ram might have lived without Sita with all the guilt of being unjust to her... the guilt, the helplessness, the pain, the emptiness ...

I really hope even in this show they will eventually show the depth of his feeling as a human, not only as God when the time comes...

I know its a lovely poem and welcome to d forum. I am Gopika Im fom Trivandrum. Yah ONV sir's sudden demise is a shock to d entire malayalam fraternity as well as a loss 2 d literature world. Have u heard abt ravanaputri by vayalar its also too good where d turmoil of ravan as sita's dad has been beautifully penned down.

What a beautiful poem...please do translate the entire poem. I have never read or seen anything like this where Ram talks of his feelings about losing Sita.

hi even I am a mallu from TVM. I have not read this poem of ONV, though his oruvattom kudiyen " is an all time favourite of mine and I have studied Bhoomikkoru Charamageetham in school. Yes his loss is a big one to Malayalam literature.
Thanks for sharing this poem

Thanks guys. Happy to know you all loved it. sadly i couldnt find any translated version online :( To do it myself will be a crime :D .Would welcome any follow malayali if they can do it. Mean while I will give it a shot ... even if I loss the beauty and metaphors, I can try to give the general idea. The later part of poem is much more on Ram's self analysis on his life... not just losing Sita.

Dear Mira,

Please give credit to yourself. I do not know Malayalam, so I cannot read the original, but I do understand that a translation is never as good as the original from any language. However, that said, that little bit you did translate was done so well, that it touched my heart deeply. It is the effect of the words on the reader that determines how well something is written, isn't it? And your words touched me deeply.

Much love❤️
Swati
