Lakshman was never away from Ram ...
It is said that even during infant stage ..lakshman used to cry when he is taken away from Ram , so their cribs were placed close to eachother (might be a folklore aswell)

May be,as the person above replied said they wanted to show L-R and S-B close. But,I think,in the baarat Bharat and Shatrughnan were far apart,at the two ends. I think Bharat should be at Lakshman's position and Lakshman at Bharat's. Just an opinion. I felt sad to see Bharat and Shatrughnan away from each other :((
