Many times in life one may come under pressure to adopt the attitude of, "when in Rome do what the Romans do"! which means to bend the rules of one s life and fit in with the Jones, Singhs, Patils, Khans, walias, etc! Do what everyone is doing . Mill around , so one is not the odd one out. It is hard to do away with something one really is not, for the sake of being less noticeable or being the odd one out! It takes guts for someone to stand up and be proud of the fact, of who they are, what they are?and why they are? For they may fear rejection of them self. But then if they have the quiet confidence , simplicity, innocence and poise of their worth. Then they are content with the little that they possess as it constitutes who they truly are. This episode to me illustrates Dhani in a scenario where she is totally out of place , where peer pressure can easily make her forget the person she really is? In order to belong in a situation especially where her man is concerned. But Dhani remains , as she is ..staid, stoic ,and up right! All that Viplav loves in her..
Lights! Action! fun and frolic! yours for the taking. The music,the lighting, and the company! all contribute to fodder for party animals! Of which Viplav too is one. Typically , he is like a guy who waits for his girl to turn up, tries her phone , but its switched off! Tania notes bemused and he tells her what the issue is. She has the chance to dissuade him off Dhani and tells him , its clear Dhani's not coming. But Viplav stubborn like the donkey he is replies, her phone is unreachable as she must be on her way or must be engaged with something. He knows Dhani would for sure pick his phone up if she could. But trouble begins to totter Viplav a bit regards the delay in her arrival. He asks the nearest person before him , a waiter! If phones are kept on silent during maata's worship?it probably goes to show that he has possibly never attended a maata's all night worship. Without wishing to be rude the waiter replies he didn't get what Viplav meant? and thus Viplav prattles on how a person who is in love has to be patient ,and ready to wait indefinitely .. for love is sometimes about waiting for ones loved one ,at other times its about making the other person wait! Viplav purges his own state of mind when he adds to the politely puzzled waiter, when ever you get restless and impatient don't stress just take deep breathes in and out haaahahh! Like so! you do it now and the waiter copies Viplav and Viplav asks how does he feel better? The waiter says feels good! and leaves but Viplav then tries it on himself to relieve himself from the tension of waiting for Dhani! ahhh.. such is the madness of being in love waiting for someone..calm down Viplav! calm down..and he revolves and looks at the club's closed entrance door..
Dhani opens the door and steps not into the club but her room. Troubled she paces, its late already , he will be livid, how will she get to go? Kanak comes into the room, returns Dhani's phone. its of no use to her now , by switiching it off long enough , she s achieved what she wanted ,to foil their plans to meet! But the witch that Kanak is , comes up , with yet another ingenious idea of blackmailing this naive girl's kind nature and feigns, that all the work has shattered her and she has a splitting headache! as well! Any chance of Dhani massaging it. Dhani couldn't refuse, as Kanak is viplav's mother ,besides, she is a guest , and older than her. As Dhani sullenly presses Kanak's head her own heart sinks, as she can't be with Viplav. she senses his waiting .But Kanak chuckles insides , what brilliant a day it was today ,as she stopped Dhani from meeting Viplav!
Amid the disco lights , noisy scenario ,Tania coaxes viplav to come and dance ,but he declines. The other two come to and whinge that if no one is dancing, mainly Viplav then might as well gohome it's boring. The girls are looking for a rave ,that is the whole point of coming to the club? if he's going to act like a sour puss !but Viplav assures them just wait a bit she'll be here, but Tania spreads negativity...no let's leave! and we'll see her when we pass the ashram... but then Raj and pakhuj arrive and save the day as Viplav tells the other two girls that Raj is the best dancer of Banaras .Tania suggests instead of waiting here doing nothing! plus boring us too, why doesn't he go and pick her up from the ashram..
But then the door opens and in walks Dhani .As her self ,a widow dressed in a white sari.. she came in a rush! as herself! Besides what is her worry? Vakeel babu's friends want to meet her, then this is how she is..still this is all very new for her ,she hadn't even known , a place like a club existed.. loud music! blue lightening! and such a crowd.. slightly taken aback she enters , eyes lowered, pallu held in place on her head with the fingertips of one hand..She moves slowly towards Viplav who stands beaming transfixed at the bar! seeing his angel dressed in white against hazy cobalt blue skies. They smile a welcome at each other.. you came! His smile spoke and she smiled back..had too! told you I would..
With a laugh Viplav dashes towards her , takes her hand and twirls her around for all to see, catches her in his arms and hugs her tightly rocking and swaying her slowly.. ecstatically he lodges his face in the curve of her neck. Dhani s arms too close around his back as she presses her chin against his shoulder. Carried away by the intensity of his emotions , his joy that she came! he cuddles and sways her visibly as a statement of tremendous love for this woman in a white sari with a soul as pure as the pristine white she wears ..yes Tania says, Viplav's public display of affection.. she can see , he loved her before ,now and forever! Dhani mumbles she's sorry she got late , but he was too busy just being rocking his baby in his arms.. Dhani notices Tania and they part...
Tania ,typically upper middle class offers her hand and a hi but dhani does a joined hand Namaste ,which Tania responds too.. graciously in similar fashion. Tania out of conversation tells her Viplav was proper worried about her!then skimpily club style dressed riya and rachna arrive and straightaways they both kiss Dhani who gets taken a back a bit! But then suddenly with Dhani beside him, Viplav announces , let the party begin! and happily the girls yell as Viplav walks Dhani around him in the club.. people stare at Dhani as if she were an alien ..obviously wondering why would she wear a sari in a disco?odd...but Dhani is clearly not bothered she is more concerned about couples chatting up each other, distastefully and almost a little puritanically she pulls her pallu to the side of her face..
Kanak wakes up and in her own words shouts, that witch! took advantage of my sleep and has skived off to meet Viplav! licked Kanak warns an absent Dhani . fine in the middle of the night you have gone to visit Viplav! but she's better be armed I Kanak will not let off that easily! you just return Dhani and see what I do to you! she snarls like a hungry vixen
So.. Dhani this is a night club disco how do you like it.. Dhani shakes a head like a bimbo.. wish she could have said, its noisy ,you have to shout when you say something because of the deafening music! But she refrains. Tania shows Dhani up! targeting her choice of attire. Why on earth did she have to wear a sari? Dhani is tongue tied, didn't expect such a question. But in tania's question too hides Viplav's spoken genuine support for Dhani. what difference does it make what she wears? she didn't come here to show her clothes ,she came here to meet you guys!.. but Dhani does feel embarrassed that on account of her attire he was short with Tania. His college friends come and pull her grip on his arm and taunt him ,let go of her now ,give us a chance to get to know her too..and Dhani looks uncomfortable , as whatever is she going to talk to them about? But Tania butts in yes let them go with them I've met her many times , and for you Viplav youcome with me ,have loads to tell you and before Dhani's rather disturbed eyes Tania drags Viplav away by the hand from Dhani!
The girls fired shallow questions at her ,didn't she go to parlour ? does she wear a white sari all the time? But Dhani eyes are fixed ahead on Tania and Viplav where body language , of touching ,feeling, grabbing on to hands are synonymous with their spoken conversation.. The two girls asked her lame questions like didn't she ever feel like wearing skimpy clothes like them ? go partying ? but Dhani gets more worried, as Tania gets more familiar with Viplav and fixes his collars and smoothes the creases over his shoulders.. such familiarity with her vakeel babu ? and what's more he doesn't seems to mind one bit! how come? But he loves me? how can he allow another than me to touch him? Ooo he feels her crimped tresses.. and laughingly he gives her a hug! Why is he doing so? He clearly doesn't seem to mind..dhani wooried sick as she watches them.. two..the girls ask her why was she late? She replies due to the Maata puja.. that's it won't stand for this and she yells vakeel babu! and the girls laugh at what she calls him! # Kanak goes looking for Dhani around the Ashrm ,then shakes Raj laxmi up! Who tells her Dhani's gone to see Viplav! Kanak fumes, this witch Dhani is flitting about too much! Didn't even bother to seek my permission just went! Her wings need to be clipped before it's too late! Kanak creates a fracas around the whole ashram shouting Dhani is missing she's looked every where! She forces Raj laxmi to tell the truth .Than Kanak taunts dulari her son is naive , careless and above all he's a bachelor ! while her daughter was married before too , she knows what the implications and meaning is of going to meet him at this hour of the night! So Kanak is cruelly making a gibe at Dhani's intent.. and her virtue
Viplav came and hears the girls laughing at Dhani.. and says to Dhani , don't mind them when god gave them a sense of fashion, he took away wisdom from them.. they cheated all the way, and got through their exams!..viplav wants to know why she called him , she says to give them the offertory from Maata's worship. He opens says feed me! his mouth and she feeds him. She also offers to Tania who aceepts but they other two shallow dim wits turn it down saying they don't eat sweet things.. Raj and pakhuj come begging for it and accept the Prasad with much devotion.
Then to dancing and Viplav says he will but with Dhani! she's scared out of her wits me? and he says only if she wants to but here no temple dance please only disco dance and he shows her a shoulder shimmy ! but Dhani chickens out! While all presses her, and Viplav so guys go and I'll chivvy her along .. and the music starts and he says to her.. the party has just started! and more is yet to come! .. she says its late she has to get back.. but he says he'll drop her back he coaxes her to dance.. the rest of them all dance and Dhani can see he's rearing to go as well..so she tells him to go ahead and dance! No problem he begs her.. but she no I can't besides I have a white sari on ,had to come in a hurry.. and he puts his hnd across her mouth..viplav dances with her playfully but he also keeps looking at his friends dancing and she insists he go.. and he replies he's going for her sake and tells her to keep watching him.. she watches him.. dancing with Tania and she wrestles in her mind..its not like how I am thinking they are only friends..but why she is getting so close to him,they are not even getting married! what if he decides to marry her instead? no it cannot be! She gets up with a start! Goes to the dance floor!, he asks, what's up? want to go home and she replies no.. and he asks her expectantly do you want to dance? She says no and he says shall I go back and she remains silent but reluctantly gives a feeble nod he resumes his dancing and she stands there giving them dirty looks ,previously he understood my silence straightaway, what's happened all of sudden?
ok .. bless her cottons thats what they say here about a sweet child.. dhani was innocent and simple.. yes but I found a dignity and grace about her.. the other girls were complete prats , shallow. if dhani felt shaky , to me it was quite natural .. I saw today viplav danced with her..when he first hugged her .. loved it.. hamlet53 12.2. 16
